A Glad Yule -Postcard Friendship Friday #293

I love this old picture from Christmas past. I posted this back in 2009, so it has been awhile.  Can you imagine the fire danger there would have been with those candles on the Christmas tree!  But it is charming all the same.

The angel reminds me of a grown version of the little girl who's face has won so many accolades. As for the two little girls, they're awfully cute--I love their dresses. I'm not sure what expression adorns the elder girl's face, but it seems the little one is either shy, or doesn't want the doll!

Merry Christmas dear Friends!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, too.

Grammie's Raindeer -Postcard Friendship Friday #292

I posted this postcard way back in 2009.  I was perusing through my collection, when I found it again.  I remember the day I was scanning some of Grammie's treasured card and postcard collection into the computer.  That's when I found this precious postcard.

At first I thought it was for Christmas, because of Santa and his Sleigh arching their way over the house. But then I noticed the trees were covered with pink blooms--and that Santa and his Reindeer were drawn onto the card.

Looking closer, I immediately recognized our Grammie's artistic styling. She had doodled over a stain on the card! If you notice, the little red Santa is dangling a bag of toys from his sleigh. What a wonderful, whimsical imagination she had. She would doodle faces and various scenes on cards, scrap paper, envelopes, old letters. I'm so glad I found this precious treasure and recognized it for what it was.
.
I adore the simplicity of line she used to create those sweet little Reindeer. I like to think I inherited some of my artistic talent from our dear little Grammie.  And so, this morning I have chosen to share her sweet artwork with you--with a merry Christmas to one and all.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Angel Hugs

This is a wonderful old postcard featuring a beautiful girl and small cherub. These old photographs are so precious.  So much work was put into them.

I often wonder about the lives of the people one sees in these pictures.  Life is so different now-a-days.  These folks knew how to celebrate Christmas beautifully!

Merry Christmas, dear Friends!

For Unto Us a Child is Born

I was looking through my cyber file of ephemera, and found this lovely card, sent to Dad, Mumsie and our family.  These days, Christmas cards are rare.  I'm so glad my sister Clytie took the time to scan this wonderful old card.

Please know you have been missed and you have been in my prayers.

Merry Christmas, dear ones.  May God bless you with His joy and peace.

Helpful Christmas Angel -Postcard Friendship Friday #291

It is a beautiful time of year.  I often imagine angels all around this house spreading God's sparkles of joy throughout my home.  I look for them, and when I do--I find them. Even though there is sorrow because I cannot spend this Christmas with my Beloved, I see him in the faces of my children.  He is there in a whispered kiss just before I fall asleep.

Merry Christmas and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends.  May God keep you safe in His arms and let His angels bring unexpected joy into your lives.  These are difficult days in the world--yet the truth is, God is good and He is walking with us.

An Xmas Greeting

I found this wonderful postcard in my files--I have no idea where it came from, but it is one of the more unusual vintage Christmas postcards I have found.

At first I thought it was Santa in a funny looking sleigh.  However, looking closer, it is a stage coach, driven by fellows in red--and someone dressed in green bending out of the window.

Merry Christmas!

A Meowy Christmas -Postcard Friendship Friday #290

This Christmas two cats will be sharing the holiday season with me--Snowboots the Gargantuan Kitten and Toez the Polydactyl Cat, my lovely "fur babies."

Boots is only seven months old and is far larger than three-year old Toez.  In fact, this is Boots' very first Christmas.  I had visions of that BooterBoy climbing the Christmas tree, knocking it over, pulling things off...well, I put the Christmas tree up this morning (we'll be decorating it tomorrow), and though he is quite interested--he hasn't tried to climb it...yet!

Have a lovely weekend, dear Friends.  Merry Christmas and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Great Light -Postcard Friendship Friday #289

Thanksgiving was wonderful--family, friends, good food--lots of laughter and music.  It was joyful.  My Beloved husband, who left for heaven a little over a year ago, would have been delighted.  Our small niece was playing my daughter's tiny pink Ukulele.  And wow!  She is doing GREAT for her age--music runs in our veins.

In fact, after Thanksgiving dinner, we had a regular Hootenanny.  With three ukuleles, the big bass fiddle and a guitar we made quite a little band.  We sang and laughed and joked--ah, we made some precious memories yesterday.

And now Christmas is just around the corner.  I have always loved Christmas--this year, with my sis and niece living with me, we will actually decorate for the holiday.

I am so glad we have a special day to celebrate the greatest story ever told.  Isaiah 9:2 of the Old Testament of the Bible prophesied, "The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them."  God sent His dear One to earth--He is the light-bearer, the one honored at Christmas.

I love the idea of God's Light upon earth. Light is warmth and illumination.  I know what it is like to live in darkness and depression--feeling so lost and alone--these words found in Matthew 4:15 are a great comfort to me.  "The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."

Merry Christmas dear ones.  May God bless you with His light, joy and comfort.

Thanksgiving Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #288

Three years ago November 17th, Daddy flew away to heaven.  This is a poignant week for our family.  Yet, with all the sorrow we have had over the past few years--there is much for which to be thankful.

I was blessed with a Daddy who loved me.  He taught me about God--because of my Dad, I understood how God the Father loved me.  I remember the way his eyes would crinkle when he would smile--love would just beam from his eyes.  Dad was kind and brave and SO much fun.

I am thankful for the memories of my Beloved husband.  Ah, I miss his laughter, humor and the way he loved me and my kids.  I am incredibly grateful for my children--they gift my life with light and hope.  I have a wonderful Mom--Mumsie is one of my best Friends--what would I do without her wisdom and tenderness in my life?

I am deeply blessed to have brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews--and friends who are family.

I am grateful for God's tender loving care.  For the world He created--all the beauty I see around me.  I am grateful God sent His Son, the Shepherd Who Loves me...so that I will be able to see my Daddy, Brother and Beloved again someday.  And so many others who have gathered in Heaven over the past 15 years.

Through the tears, there is a kind of inexplicable joy.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends.

Be Still, Sad Heart -Postcard Friendship Friday #286

It is Halloween tomorrow, but that holiday pales in comparison to today's anniversary--one year ago today, my Beloved flew away to heaven.  Life has changed forever.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining
Behind the clouds, the sun is shining.
Thy fate is the common fate of all.
Into each life some rain must fall;
Some days must be dark and dreary.

But I must add here--that without both the sun and the rain--there are no rainbows and there is no hope.  I am so grateful to know I will see my darling again someday. In the meantime, the Shepherd of my heart walks with me, He weeps with me and He loves me.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear  Friends.

All Good luck This Hallowe'en -Postcard Friendship Friday #285

This wonderful old postcard comes from Pearl, who's wonderful collection of cards boggles the mind!

This black cat seems a bit different than most pictured around Halloween. Her long wavy hair and mischievous look, in my opinion, make her exceptional. She reminds me of the cat who companied with me when I was a girl.  Her name was Snow.  She was all black with the exception of a tiny bit of white on her chest.  I still miss that kitty.

Have a lovely week, dear Friends.  Enjoy the sunshine when it comes, the ice when it freezes, the rain when it falls, the wind when it blows and the snow when it drifts...winter is on the way!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Best Wishes Under Lamp Light

I love this card.  It came from my sweet Grammie.  It reminds me of her--delicate, sweet and a light in my life.  I am not sure where or when this card was printed, but it's elegant length, beautifully crafted flowers and detailed lamp are pure beauty to the eye.

Have a lovely day and treasure those people in life who inspire you to become a better person.

Fairies Dancing -Postcard Friendship Friday #283

I've always loved this postcard, so I'm re-posting it!  I have been incredibly busy this week--In fact, I've been gone for most of it.  This summer I've been away more than I've been home. I'm so grateful for my trustworthy house sitters!  So much to do and so little time.

I bought this postcard when I was a teenager.  I found it in the attic where I'd kept it safe in a keepsake box.  The delicate colors and whimsical nature of this drawing have always delighted my heart.

As Fall commences, I find myself yearning for Spring and Summer.  There is a long and dark winter ahead without my Beloved.

Years ago, Alan and I went for a walk through a forested park in the center of town.  Behind a big fir tree he "found" a basket.  He gave it to me and said we were going to look for treasure.  (grin)  What I didn't know, until years later, was that my sister and Alan's roommate had placed it there and were hiding behind a tree!

We found all sorts of treasures, even a real lightning bug--the first and only one I've ever seen in the Pacific Northwest.  It was getting dark beneath the trees, when he stopped to kiss me.

Then he broke a long cylinder, which glowed green.  "Close your eyes," he said with a grin.  I did...when I opened them, a castle glowed out of the dark, complete with windows and parapets.

A closer look at the castle revealed a small golden box with my name on the lid.  Inside I found an opal necklace.  It was a beautiful, sweet moment I will never forget.

Such a thoughtful, loving man. The castle was in reality a craggy old stump--but in my heart and memory it was a faery castle, brought to life by a man who clearly loved me.  I still have that little golden box with my name engraved on the top.

Have a great weekend, dear Friends.  May God bless you with wonderful moments with the ones you love.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Long and Happy Days be Thine -Postcard Friendship Friday #282

This wonderful postcard is from my cyber collection.  This lovely fairy obviously loves carnations, as do I.  she is so beautifully whimsical.  I adore fairytales and faeries.  Someday I shall write my very own fairytale.

Never be thy shadow less,
Never fail thy cheerfulness;
And, whatever lot be mine.
Long and happy days be thine.

Have a great weekend, dear Friends.  May God bless you with joy and laughter...strength, too.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

The Fairy Prince -Postcard Friendship Friday #281

Here is a wonderful find from my attic! Years ago, I fell in love with the rich colors and whimsical overtones of this postcard. I bought it and put it in a pretty box with a collection of old postcards--all tied together with a fragile blue ribbon.

The original painting is called "Sagoprinsen," or in English, "Fairy Prince." The artist John Bauer became best known for his pictures of fairy tales. He found inspiration for his "trolls" from the scenery around his native home.

The postcard was printed in Sweden in 1976.

Daisies In Her Arms -Postcard Friendship Friday #280

I apologize for posting late.  So much is happening in my life right now.  I am just totally distracted.  I'll have this coming Friday's post all ready to go so it will happen whether or not I'm here or there!  Thank you for your patience.

I am re-posting another charming postcard of the enchanting little girl who has so caught my imagination--This postcard is number two in a series of six which were produced in the early 1900's by Tuck & Sons. The series was called "Sweetie."

Here the small girl glances longingly toward the artistic bundle of grasses and daisies in her arms. I am sure she was wishing she could run outside and play--perhaps in sunlit fields filled with those happy-go-lucky daisies.

These postcards are a part of my "cyber" postcard collection and were sent by Pearl, who's amazing postcard collection is ever an inspiration to me.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

National Teddy Bear Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #279

Here in the United states, we celebrate National Teddy Bear Day on September 9th.  I adore Teddy Bears, so I loved hearing there is an actual holiday commemorating  these stuffed darlings.

I did some research on how Teddy Bears came into being, and it seems they are named after United States President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt.

Roosevelt was an avid hunter, but that day in 1902, they had found no game.  So, some, er, well-meaning person brought Roosevelt a baby bear to shoot instead.

I am so glad to read Roosevelt felt that shooting the wee bear was not sporting and refused to do so.  A cartoonist commemorated the event which inspired an enterprising New York toy maker to design a darling stuffed bear named "Teddy's Bear."  The rest, as "they" say, is history.  (grin)  The name morphed into Teddy Bears.  They're incredibly huggable and lovable.

On a more serious note, today is the anniversary of a profoundly sad day for all of America.  September 11, 2001.  I will never forget sitting in the window seat, my husband in the big chair.  He had turned on the news.  We watched the second plane pummel its way through the second tower.  We stayed tuned in for hours which stretched into days.  This event was profound.  I can hardly put into words how it changed my life--and the lives of so many others.

My family and I visited Ground Zero less than a year after the event.  That story is found here

May God bless you all today.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.  ((hugs))

Flowers in Her Hair - Happy Postcard Friendship Friday #278

I have posted many photographs of this little girl.  She is said to have been a photographer's daughter.  Photos of this young lady along with other family members can be found everywhere.  Her sweet face has become quite well-known.

She is so lovely.  She reminds me of my own dear niece--their faces are nearly identical.  Perhaps this is why I am so drawn to her.  So, here she is again, with pink tinted flowers in hair and deliciously added detail.  This postcard was sent to me by another collector, to whom I am deeply grateful.

I apologize for missing last week's PFF.  I was out of town and was unable to get to a computer.  Lots of stuff happening right now.  It was so very nice to be missed.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and I hope you have a lovely weekend, dear Friends!

Jackalope -Postcard Friendship Friday #277

This is the famous Western Jackalope.  Yes, this postcard has been floating around a LONG time.  Our sweet Grammie sent this to her dear husband Lester, our Grandfather, back in the 1960's.

I still chuckle when I look at this picture--it reflects my Grandmother's whimsical side.

National Lazy Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #276

Did you know August 10th was National Lazy Day?  If I would have know this fact, I would have taken a few moments to be lazy!

When I attempted to find the origins of National Lazy Day, the researchers wrote, "Today there will not be much information regarding this annually celebrated holiday as we do not feel like doing any research."  Of course, this made me laugh. I hope the comment brings a grin to your face, too.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
