My Summer Girl -Postcard Friendship Friday #126

I have always loved the Gibson Girls.  Though this wonderful artwork is not by Charles Dana Gibson, I am sure it may have been inspired by his art.

Have a lovely summer day, everyone.

Vintage Bathing Beauty - Postcard Friendship Friday #125

We are well into summertime with all the activities associated with warm weather.  It has been so great to see the sun!  Unlike the rest of America the Pacific Northwest has had record breaking rains clear through June!  Our rivers are still running full and cold.  But happily, our weather has finally turned summer-like.

To celebrate summer's arrival, I found this lovely vintage bathing beauty.  I adore this old postcard.  In that day and age, This young women's swimsuit would have been quite scandalous!  I like her swimming cap and that big bow.  Such a saucy wench!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone! Enjoy summer while it lasts.

National Blueberry Month - Postcard Friendship Friday #124

National Blueberry Muffin Day is celebrated every year on July 11th. It is for the celebration of Blueberry muffin and all the muffin lovers. In 1999 the month of July was established as National Blueberry month by US Department of Agriculture.

The United States produces almost all blueberries in the world. These sweet blueberries have been used for eons, in soups, stews and more.  They go back to the very beginning of American traditions when Native Americans taught the pilgrims to how to use blueberries in their food preparations. Blueberries were dried in the sun and ground into a powder. The powder was used to make a pudding called Sautauthig and it was sometimes used to season meat as a “spice rub.”

Blueberry tea was thought to help relax women during childbirth, leaves from the blueberry bush were used to make a blood purifier good for the kidneys and blueberry juice was supposed to be good for coughs.

Science backs this up, apparently blueberries are rich in antioxidants.  They also help prevent kidney infections in the same way as cranberries and may also help prevent macular degeneration.  Research has revealed that eating blueberries may help reduce the chance for cancer and heart disease.

Dad planted a field of blueberries when we were small.  Some of those bushes survive to this day, growing higher than my head.  The berries are just as delectable as I remember.

I pluck a fragrant handful, plop a few of those plump berries into my mouth.  Ah, it takes me back...The very taste of summer resides in a small blueberry!

Red Flowers - Guest heart Thursday

I do not know exactly where I found this beautiful heart--it looks like this whimsical piece was painted onto a piece of worn marble tile.  Just beautiful.  If anyone out there knows where it came from, please let me know so I can put a link to the artist.

Best Friends - Postcard Friendship Friday #123

It was a lovely holiday here in the United States.  The Fourth of July is a celebration I look forward to almost as much as Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Friends and family all gathered around, laughing, playing games, watching the parade, eating good food.  Then walking down to the river's edge to await the fireworks display. Walking back home in a crowd of thousands, then watching traffic at a standstill while we set off our own fireworks, sit around the firepit, making sommores--it is a wonderful time.

But this year, something interesting happened--I was amidst a crowd of family and friends as the parade was passing by, when suddenly I felt as though I was surrounded by a little bubble of quiet clarity.  It was almost as though that moment was in slow motion.  A blip in time, so to speak...

I looked around--saw the faces of family I adore, friends I love--and I knew at that moment how blessed I was to have each and every one of them in my life.  I took that moment to thank God for these precious ones.

And not just for those I watched from my little bubble of peace.  I thank God for friends I have not met face to face.  I thank Him for unexpected friendship.

Have a lovely weekend sweet Friends!
