Best Wishes for Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #139

I love this sweet little card.  That little fellow sitting on the pumpkin takes me back to my own childhood.  His hat and coat are so cute--as is his smile.

Along with some bad news concerning my husband having cancer, yesterday I was visiting my parents and was present when our sweet Dad had a stroke.  He was taken by ambulance to the best stroke hospital in Oregon. I was at the hospital with Mom until late last night.  Mom is with the doctors this morning, and I haven't heard back from her yet.

Please pray for our dear Dad.  His name is Bud.  Thank you for all your prayers and warm thoughts.  This means more than you know to me and to my family.

Best Wishes for Halloween, sweet Friends.

Spilled Roses -Guest Heart Thursday

Today I am getting used to the news we received Tuesday.  My husband has cancer.  How amazing those words are as I type them.   One never thinks it will happen so close--to someone so dear.  Monday we go together to the doctor to discover what options we have.  Cancer doesn't just happen to the one who has it, but it affects everyone else around that person.

I would appreciate your prayers, especially for my darling husband Alan.  He has been my light and inspiration throughout the years.  We have laughed, wept, fought, made up, dreamed and inspired one another for almost 30 years.  I am hoping and praying for the best.  How grateful I am for our God who Loves and strengthens us.

There is a heart in that basket of roses.  It's just a bit lop sided.  Have a blessed week, dear Friends.

Of Mice and Cats on Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #138

I love the whimsical nature of this wonderful Halloween Postcard.  The poem is interesting, as are the activities of the mice.  Anyone have any idea what is going on there?  I'm not sure what the deal is with the mouse in a blanket and the police mouse chasing him with a baton?!  The cat seems to be incidental to the storyline, except he looks rather intrigued and a bit hungry...

I wonder if this postcard could have been the inspiration for the children's book Halloween Mice by Bethany Roberts.  This delightfully illustrated book is the story of mice attending a party on Halloween night.  Of course, they are threatened by a hungry cat and must come up with an ingenious trick to scare him off.

I wanted to thank you for all your good thoughts and prayers concerning my husband.  His biopsy was Monday, tomorrow afternoon we hear back on the results of that test.  Would appreciate your continued prayer for my Beloved.

Halloween Fairies - Postcard Friendship Friday #137

Isn't this unusual vintage postcard just darling?  I have never found a Halloween Faery before!  It is the only one I could find.

Actually, from what I could find online, Halloween Fairies are a fairly new tradition and a charming idea.

Some say the Halloween Fairy is not a faery at all.  It is said she might be a Banshee with a sweet tooth.  When the wind blows and taps at the windowpane, it is the Halloween Fairy who would love to share a few goodies.  Just like the Tooth  Fairy, the Halloween Fairy leaves a present behind in exchange for a fistful of Halloween treats.

The kids awaken to play with their present and there's less candy around for them to consume.  I really love this idea--I wish it had been around when my kids were small!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Two Within One Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Every month, I receive samples of what Dover Art is offering.  They are a wonderful company.  I've loved looking at their catalogs for over 30 years.  As a secretary for a local college, we received Dover Catalogs for years.  I actually still have a few of their old catalogs in my art idea files.  I do so enjoy looking at the artwork they offer--and these days it is digital.  Dover is very generous!

The heart above is one of the full-page samplings they offered a few months ago.  I especially love the two flowers within the heart.  This heart has a special significance just now.  My husband and I have been married for 29 years.  We have been together through thick and thin.  Tuesday he is going in for a biopsy and the following Friday we will know the results.

I would appreciate your prayers, dear friends.  In the meantime, Have a wonderful, blessed day.

All-Time Favorite Halloween Postcard -Postcard Friendship Friday #136

This is my all-time favorite Halloween postcard.  Having a great fondness for black cats in general, this one always made me laugh.  Our black cat Snow often looked like this when she was about to do something dastardly.  How I miss that girl.

At any rate--'tis the month for postcards sporting black cats, witches, scary stories, ghosts and pumpkins!  Have a lovely day, everyone!

Violets Nouveau - Guest Heart Thursday

I love this place card.  I am not sure where I found it--it is a part of my Cyber Collection (see note in sidebar).  I love violets.  Whether they be yellow, pink, purple or white--they are one of the most fragrant delicately lovely flowers in the world.

We used to find the purple ones growing wild along the stream beds--the white ones grew in Mom's garden and of course, the wild yellow Johnny Jumpups covered the ground beneath the firs in spring.  In my own garden there is a pink variety which arrives with the others.  Violets have a quirky personality all their own!

Have a beautiful day everyone.
