A Token of Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #515

A Token of Love
Two souls with but a single thought,
Two hearts that beat as one,
Will make our home an ideal spot.
And from dull care we'll run...

Summertime romance...  There's a certain music in the air when summer touches and dispels the cold damp winter, then cool Spring.

Have a great weekend!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy Birthday, My Beloved

I found this adorable painting online.  It perfectly expresses how much I miss my Beloved.  His birthday is today.  He would have been 75 years old.

How I miss him.  Life has gone on..and I have made steps toward healing, but I will always miss him.  He made a tremendous impact in my life.  There are so many things I never would have done, but for him.  Life with him was a great adventure.

It is hard to be alone now...  But God walks, talks, weeps and laughs with me.  He is my good friend and He knows exactly how I feel today.

Please hug your own beloved today--never take one another for granted.  One never knows how much time you'll have together.

Blessing, joy and peace be to you, dear ones.

How about a Ride? -Postcard Friendship Friday #449

I love the way the young man is looking at this gentle maiden.  However her companion the Dog seems a bit suspicious.  What a beautiful postcard.  I wonder if she WILL go for ride in that boat upon the lake.

I finally went to the doctor--looks like I have pneumonia.  Thankfully I may be over the worst of this soon.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and have a lovely weekend all you wonderful people out there!

To My Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #443

This sweet card is from the mid-1940's.  I found it in one of Dad's scrap books from those days.  He has been gone for six years--there are so many things I wish I had known about Dad--didn't until after he passed away.  What a delight to find this in his keepsakes--Daddy was a sentimental fellow.  This Valentine's Day Card folds down into this delightful Valentine.

I know this isn't a postcard, but I had to share it with you dear ones.  I know you will love it as much as I do!  May blessing, joy and hope be yours, sweet Friends. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Message to my Valentine -Postcard Friendship Friday #441

I have always loved Valentine's  Day.  And I wish I could send a Valentine message to my Beloved, who is in heaven.  He always brought flowers and candy not just for me, but for my girls.

What a sweet fellow he was!  I miss him a lot this time of year.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

To the One I love -Postcard Friendship Friday #439

It is getting close to Valentine's Day already.  It is a little more than a month away.  I used to love that holiday, but it has been a sad one for me since my Beloved flew away to heaven.

This year I am going to do something a little nutty.  I'm keeping the Christmas tree up with its lights--putting away the Christmas ornaments.  I am going to decorate the tree with valentines and hearts, then I'm inviting all my nieces and nephews to come over for the weekend.

We will eat Valentine's Day cake, enjoy some fun games, sing and play instruments and best of all, laugh together.  I think this is the perfect solution for Valentine's Day.  It will become a new tradition.  :D

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Flirts -Postcard Friendship Friday #420

These two are SO sweet--as do most people who companion with dogs--there is a great resemblance between the two.

This month we honor dogs and their owners.  This postcard seemed just perfect.

A Greeting From St. Valentine -Postcard Friendship Friday #393

This graceful vintage postcard with its exquisite roses pleases my eyes.  The style of clothing from the past is charming--but I can't imagine wearing such things these days--it would be SO hard to function in such long skirts.  However, I do love the way the ladies looked then.

I hope you are having a lovely day.  Have a great weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Marry Me -Postcard Friendship Friday #311

Tomorrow my sweet young friends Nathan and Jennika will be joining their lives in marriage.  I am so happy for these dear ones.  Nathan was loved and mentored by my sweet Alan, and has been like a son to me since my husband passed away.

Above you see a drawing I made for them as their wedding gift! Jennika is perfect for Nathan.  I am SO happy for them!  This postcard is dedicated to this sweet couple and to honor the wonderful adventure ahead of them.

Have a lovely day, dear Friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Mother's Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #310

Although the storm and stress of fate,
The bonds of life may strain, or sever.
The endless chain of Mother-love
Will bind the world forever.

What lovely words.  I have the world's most fantastic Mom.  She is such a lovely, talented, precious Friend.  I wish I would have known her better as a teenager--these days I treasure the beauty and value of my relationship with my Mother.  I am surrounded by her love and wonderful friendship.  I don't know what I would do without my darling Mum.  I am blessed to be her daughter.

She was one of the speakers at the retreat last weekend.  She is gifted in so many ways, writing, art, and speaking.  I didn't realize it, but one of her books was recently translated into Korean!

As  Mom spoke, I learned a lot I didn't know, and frequently found myself in tears.  So many ladies came up afterward to tell me how blessed they were to have heard her speak.  The entire weekend was incredible!

And so I say now--a little early--My dearest, darling Mumsie, happy Mother's Day!

Have a lovely day, dear Friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

From Your Valentine - Postcard Friendship Friday #300

I have always loved Valentines Day.  When I was a young girl, every person in my classroom at school would make a red heart pouch to hang on the end of each desk.  All of the children would bring cards for everyone in class.  I could hardly wait to open all the wonderful cards I received.  I saved many of them--in fact they are a part of my extensive Valentine Ephemera collection.

I adore this Valentine's Day postcard--the little girl's dress is so pretty--and wouldn't I love to see a violet that size!  I thought it perfect for the holiday!

There is a fascinating Valentine's Day legend from long ago.  When the Roman empire became too large, more and more men were recruited as solders and officers--pressed into service to protect Rome's vast lands.  When Claudius became emperor he brought some interesting ideas to the throne.

Emperor Claudius II believed married men were too emotionally attached to their families.  He thought a man with a wife and family, would not make a good soldier.  He believed marriage, with it's strong emotional ties, made men weak. So he issued an edict forbidding soldiers to marry.

The ban on marriage was a great shock for the Romans, who's tradition of marriage was a huge part of their society.  But the Roman people dared not voice their protest against the mighty emperor.

At that time, there lived a kindly clergyman by the name of Valentine who was known for his powers of healing.  This brave man realized the injustice of the decree. He saw first-hand the grief of young lovers who had given up all hopes of being united in marriage.  So, Valentine countered the unpopular edict by meeting young lovers to perform marriage ceremonies in secret.

But such things cannot remain hidden for long. It was only a matter of time before the Emperor heard about Saint Valentine, the "friend of lovers."   The Emperor promptly had him arrested for his crimes.

When Emperor Claudius visited Valentine, it is said the great ruler was impressed by Valentine's dignity and conviction.  However, when the Emperor asked this good man to reverse his feelings about the ban on marriage--Valentine refused to change his views, even attempting to share his own Faith with the Roman leader.  As a result, the now thoroughly furious Emperor gave the order to execute Valentine.

During his imprisonment, Valentine's guard, Asterius asked him to heal his daughter of her blindness.  Valentine prayed over the girl and she regained her sight.  According to this charming, yet sad legend, Valentine fell deeply in love with Asterius' daughter.  It is said just before his execution, he asked for a pen and paper to sign a farewell message to the young girl.  He signed his letter with, From Your Valentine, a phrase which lovers use to this very day.

Martyred for love and for his Faith, Valentine is believed to have been executed on February 14, 270 AD.

This brave man left behind a beautiful legacy.  Treasure the ones you love this Valentine's Day.  It is a wonderful day to share how much you love those who are close to your heart.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

The One I Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #254

I am so sorry to have missed this week's Postcard Friendship Friday.  I was out of town all week long.  Though we had a great time, there were plenty of moments when we shared tears.

I love this beautiful old Valentine's Day Postcard.  They look like they're actually having fun!  And no smart phones, or tablets.

O little girl when you dance with me,
The party is so fine,
My heart keeps time to the way you step
For I am your Valentine.

Have a beautiful, blessed week, my Friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

I Miss You -Postcard Friendship Friday #245

Early Thursday morning, October 30th, I lost the love of my life.

I know lots of people are not comfortable with the loss of a loved one and the story of what happened.  However, my husband left in such a beautiful way, I wanted to share it with you.  If you are uncomfortable with reading this account--I truly, deeply understand.  ((HUGS))

I knew something was wrong and I felt uneasy, so the cat and I sat beside him, as he slept in his big chair.  Suddenly he clutched the top part of his chest and said he was in awful pain.  A moment later, his eyes grew large, and he gasped as though he saw something indescribably wonderful.

I called 911, and I performed CPR until the ambulance came.  Our dear children were able to arrive before he left for the hospital, and we were together there when he flew away to heaven.

As we were hugging and kissing him goodbye--telling him what a wonderful husband and father he was,  what a great job he had done and how much we loved him--to be at peace and to not worry about us--the walls of the emergency room were lined with those who had fought so hard to save him.  We sang his favorite songs and held him as long as we could.  Those wonderful people surrounded us....their heads bowed, hands folded, many with tears running down their faces.  After a time, they trickled from the room--but stayed close by in the hallway.

As we were getting ready to leave, the head RN came in and said, "We see a lot of these, but it is rare to find a family with such love for one another, who handled this moment with such great beauty, love and dignity."  Then he gave us his card and said, "If you need anything let us know."

I have been married to this wonderful man for 31 wonderful years.   Alan is the love of my life.  I want to share something beautiful that happened to me early Saturday morning. As I lay trying to sleep, a small sweet breeze slid across my face...and then his dear lips pressed against mine.  My husband kissed me goodbye.

Alan was a servant of God and He loved people. He wanted everyone to know God loved them too, and so I am passing his message on to you--God loves you.  He longs to know you, God wants to share His son and the world He created for you--in a whole different way than you've ever known.

Dear precious friends--may God bless you with joy--even in the midst of great sorrow.

Goodbye My Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #244

My sweet Friends.  I am so sorry for not posting earlier.  Thursday morning my husband of 31 years flew home to be with the Savior he loves.  He died very suddenly early in the morning.

I hardly know what to write, except to ask for your prayers for me and my precious family as we learn to live our lives without dear Alan.  Blessings and love to each of you, dear ones.

The Waiting Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Isn't this young woman beautiful?  Her complexion rivals the rose.  I do love the way the artist painted that rose.   And with the lovely maiden portrayed inside the enfolding heart, I thought this postcard perfect for Guest Heart Thursday!
