Happy Flag Day and Best Birthday Wishes -Postcard Friendship Friday #410

Somehow Blogger lost what I had scheduled for today, posting an exact copy of last week's PFF instead.  I have NO idea why, or where my original post went! Hence I am re-posting both Flag Day and Birthday vintage postcards for you this morning.

I have always loved the American flag, with its bright colors, symbolism and rich history.  This beautiful vintage postcard with our flag and the dear little children bearing bouquets of colorful flowers touches my heart.

The vintage postcard above is one of my favorites--its rich color and beauty of design fills my eyes.  As many of you know, my birthday is Flag Day.  So over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my favorite vintage birthday postcards, along with those celebrating the American flag!

Happy Flag Day and have a lovely Postcard Friendship Friday!

The Lads They Loved so Dear -Postcard Friendship Friday #409

What a beautiful postcard.  By the style of the clothing this family wears, I surmise this vintage postcard is from the early 1900's around the time of WWI.

Sadly, it seems the family pictured here has lost both husband and father.  In those days it would have been incredibly difficult for a widow to raise her family alone. Indeed, my heart goes out to all those who have lost their loved ones in war, regardless of which nation they defended.

Here in America, this is Memorial Day Weekend, a time of reflection and remembrance of the sacrifices our military men and women willingly made for family, home and country.

Monday Memorial Day, all across our great country, Americans will specifically honor the soldiers who gave so much.  Their sacrifice is the reason we are free.

My family and I will visit Dad, a WW2 Veteran and a POW in Nazi Germany, at Willamette National Cemetery with its acres of flagged graves.  So many of them--the sight always brings me to tears.  I pray we will NEVER take any of these amazing individuals for granted.

God bless them all, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Happy Birthday Sweet Mumsie! -Postcard Friendship Friday #408

Today my beloved Mumsie is 79 years old.  She is the best Mom ever.  She raised six children on practically nothing.  She sacrificed for us and gave us every advantage she could. She loved my Dad with all her heart and wept when he left us five years ago.  They had been married well over 50 years.  What a lovely example she is!

Mumsie loved to write, so she wrote her first book with my youngest sister dandling on her knees.  She typed it on an old manual typewriter when there was no such thing as auto correct.

Mom was a pioneer in Christian romance.  Back in the late 70's, when I was a teen, there were none.  That was her inspiration!  She went on to sell six mystery novels for girls and young women.  Two of them were printed overseas, and several were in print for over 20 years.  She has written Bible studies for women and teens and just three years ago, her historical romance novel, A Stitch and a Prayer, was published.  You can find a selection of Eva Gibson's books on Good Read.

I am SO proud of her.

Now I have a fun little story to tell about Mom.  For years she doodled 41 inside of a heart.  She always said something BIG would happen on that day.  And it did!  Mount St. Helens blew her top.  We've always teased her about that.  And today, of course, she is getting a fair amount of ribbing because of the eruption of the volcano in Hawaii.  "What is it about your birthday and volcanos," we ask.

So...Happy Birthday Mom!  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

My Beautiful Baby -Postcard Friendship Friday #407

I love this painting from the early 1900's.  I can't imagine having to do daily tasks wearing long skirts such as those pictured here.  I thank God for today's more practical clothing.  In the meantime, this mother's face says it all.  "I love you, my beautiful baby!"

Have a lovely Mothers' Day, dear friends--treasure your Moms--Life is fragile and beautiful, and we won't have them here forever.

Blessings, and joy to you!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

May the Fourth be With You -Postcard Friendship Friday #406

I am of the generation which saw the first Star Wars movie in the theater when it came out for the first time over 40 years ago.  These days, movie goers are jaded to the incredible special effects in movies, but back then we had not seen anything like it in our lives.

I still remember the way I felt as I listened to the incredible music and watched the huge Empire ship move powerfully across the top of the movie screen.  It was an amazing experience.

And so today, I say with a decided lisp, "May the Fourth be with you!" Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
