Autumn is Here -Postcard Friendship Friday #239

I love this postcard--this girl is magnificent in her Autumn array.  She's just perfect for today's Postcard Friendship Friday.  It is hard to believe only a week and a half ago, it was over 90 degrees outside!  On the official first day of Fall, an Autumn storm swept through, and it has been storming off and on ever since.

It has been a hard week for a number of reasons--May the remainder of this week be pleasant and sweet for all of you, dear ones.

Enjoy the crisp Fall air, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Life is made beautiful by friendship.  I found this sweet vintage card via the internet.  It seems to suit my mood today.  I am so grateful for the gift of friendship.  (You know who you are.)

Comfort in Sadness

Today our lifetime friend Dan lost his little grandson in a tragic accident--these dear ones have already born so much heartache in their lives.  I hardly know what to say, or what to do.  Please pray for our friends Dan and Judy, and the parents of this precious little boy, Daniel.

May God comfort them in their grief.

Thank you for your prayers, dear ones.

Talk Like A Pirate Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #238

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  This strange holiday was created in 1995 by John Baur, otherwise known as Ol’ Chumbucket and Mark Summers, known as Cap’n Slappy.  Both men are from Albany, Oregon where on this day many folks greet one another with “Ahoy, me matey!”

The holiday began as a result of an in injury during a racquetball game between Summers and Bauer, one of whom reacted to the pain with by shouting, Aaaaarrrr!  Thus the idea was born.

At first it was an inside joke between two friend.  But the holiday gained exposure when they wrote a letter about their invented holiday to the American syndicated humor columnist Dave Barry in 2002. Barry liked the idea and promoted the day. Growing media coverage of the holiday after Barry's column has ensured that this event is now celebrated internationally.

In the United States, Michigan and California have officially recognized the holiday.  To its credit, Krispy Kreme gives out free doughnuts to people who talk and/or dress like pirates today, and Long John Silver's has a similar promotion.

So if you see a pirate or two wandering the streets, it isn’t Halloween yet, it’s just a bunch of pirates talking fun, likely from Albany, Oregon.

Ahoy me maties!  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!  (I apologize for the lateness of this upload--blogger was having some problems.)

Milkshake Kisses -Postcard Friendship Friday #237

I know this is a strawberry soda, or perhaps an old fashioned milkshake--but I chose this postcard, because I couldn't find one which would exactly fit today's fabulous holiday.

Hurrah!  It’s Chocolate Milkshake Day!  Though no one knows when this holiday began, or who started it, one must admit chocolate milkshake in September has a lot of charm.  Especially here in Oregon, where we have experienced record-breaking heat this summer.

There's more good news--I have heard it said that on this day, a chocolate milkshake has no calories.  Now that is good news indeed!

Have a lovely weekend, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

I Ain't Lonesome -Postcard Friendship Friday #236

My darling husband of 31 years has been out of town for a week now.  He will be arriving back home today.  Yay!  Though I've enjoyed the time alone--I've also missed him very much.  I thought this cute postcard is a perfect expression of how I've been feeling the past few days.

I adore what Dot writes on the back of this postcard, "Dear Jack, I saw this card & I couldn't resist sending it.  It expresses my sentiments so nicely.  I'm hoping for a letter real soon.  I just love it down  here, the bathing is great, only if you were here."

Have a lovely weekend everyone and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
