Happy Birthday Little Sister! -Postcard Friendship Friday #417

I remember the day my youngest sister came home.  She was so tiny with a head of dark hair, deep blue eyes and eyelashes so long they touched her perfectly drawn brows.  What a beautiful baby!  However, I was fourteen years old and as a teen, a newborn wasn't that interesting to me.

Yet,  as she grew we became very good friends.  I wrote songs about her, played with her, teased her and loved her.

She has a whimsical nature much like my own.  Today she turns 46 years old.  It is hard to believe so many years have passed since the day my parents brought home that sweet little girl.  I am grateful to the Lord for my sister.  She is one of my best buddies and is such a blessing in my life!

Happy Flag Day and Best Birthday Wishes -Postcard Friendship Friday #410

Somehow Blogger lost what I had scheduled for today, posting an exact copy of last week's PFF instead.  I have NO idea why, or where my original post went! Hence I am re-posting both Flag Day and Birthday vintage postcards for you this morning.

I have always loved the American flag, with its bright colors, symbolism and rich history.  This beautiful vintage postcard with our flag and the dear little children bearing bouquets of colorful flowers touches my heart.

The vintage postcard above is one of my favorites--its rich color and beauty of design fills my eyes.  As many of you know, my birthday is Flag Day.  So over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my favorite vintage birthday postcards, along with those celebrating the American flag!

Happy Flag Day and have a lovely Postcard Friendship Friday!

Pansies and Angels -Guest Heart Thursday

This is a beautiful postcard, but it reminds me more of Springtime, than Christmas.  Of course you can find hearts in the petals of these lovely pansies.  I love this artist.  What a joyous departure from the norm.  VERY cool.

Have a whimsically Merry Christmas!

For more heart art, photography and altogether fabulous heart stuff from around the world, visit Clytie at Random Hearts for Guest Heart Thursday.

Because You Are So Special - Sunday Scans

Here is another of Grammie Jenny's cards.  This is from her best Friend Ruth.  Their friendship was so rich and beautiful.  I'm so glad we have a record of their loving hearts toward one another.  I especially love this card with it's bright and cheery pansies.

Al over at "Al's Photography Blog" is hosting a wonderful meme. It's called "Sunday Scans" and is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

Happy Birthday, Sissy!

It is a lovely day for Mother's Day--but this year there's another special celebration--this is the day my darling Sister Clytie was born.

I will never forget that mid-December day we almost lost her to a stroke.  The threat of losing Sissy, then her miraculous healing, changed everything.  I will never, EVER take her for granted again.  Every blessed day she is in this world is a treasure.

Clytie is not only my sister, but she one of my very best friends.  This extraordinary woman blesses everyone she meets with her laughter and humor, whimsical personality and her wonderful eye for hearts.  She has a gift of seeing beauty where no one else would.

I think it would be great fun if everyone hopped on over to her page to wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!  Let's all surprise her at Random Hearts!

Thank You for your prayers

There are times when words fail. When miracles thicken the air. That is when one's gratefulness cannot be expressed.

Thank You, dear ones. Thank you to everyone who prayed for my sister Clytie. She's going home today.

And it is a miracle.

A Garden Without Flowers

This is one of the wonderful cards our Grandma Jenny's best friend Ruth sent most likely in the late 1950's. This card touches my heart--I have such wonderful friends. Dear precious friends. I am so grateful for the fragrant friendship flowers in the garden of my life.

Life without friends would be like a garden without flowers.

So I have to ask--if you were a plant growing in a garden, what would you be? I'm thinking I might be a purple cauliflower combined with violets and a rose. . .

A Basket of Pansies for my Mumsie

Today is my darling Mumsie's birthday. What a wonderful lady she is! Some of you have had the joy of reading her blog. She is a talented writer, an author and a lovely person. Of course, if you'd like to read some of Mumsie's writings, you can find her blog in the sidebar of this blog under "Everybody Loves a Story." When you visit her, be sure to wish Mom a happy birthday!

On this day of Mumsie's birthday--I was remembering back over the years. Growing up, I did not realize the treasure she truly is. It took becoming an adult with children of my own before I understood her beauty and value.

Some of the happiest years of my life were when my family and I lived in Grammie's basement, next door to Dad and Mom. My husband made an office in the back of my parents home, and our two eldest children went to the school I attended as a child. It was a lovely two years. The children played in the canyons and fields where I played as a child. They found snakes beneath old boards. They made forts in the fruit trees. They loved the ponds with their flirty fish and numerous frogs.

Best of all, I got to spend every morning walking with my Mother. We shared daily quiet times, our hurts, joys and dreams. We laughed, prayed and cried together. What a wonderful time that was.

Mums is interesting and a LOT of fun. Her laughter is raucous, and unmistakable. I LOVE to hear her laugh. She is earthy, wise, compassionate and a little wacky. I treasure her insights. I enjoy hearing about her childhood. I deeply admire her ability to paint a story in words.

Though she has faced (and still faces) tremendous and terrible struggles, Mom rises above them with a beauty not often seen in this day and age.

When I was a little girl, Mumsie showed me the whimsical faces worn by pansies. Since then, I've always loved them.

So, here's a basket of happy pansies for my wonderful, wise, whimsical and wacky Mumsie! Happy Birthday Mums!
