Egad! Sparklers!!!

Many of these early postcards have children doing dangerous things with fireworks and such.  I love their colorful attractive look--but GOODNESS!  That child has a gun!  Not to mention the sword lying on the ground next to his drum.

Have a Happy SAFE Fourth of July!

Looks like my childhood! :) My grandfather used to let my cousin and I play with fireworks! It's a wonder I still have all my fingers!

Isn't it amazing how dangerously we played.

Indeed, they do depict a more "carefree" attitude ... as a child, I never liked all the noise though I appreciated the lovely display of sparks. Till this day, I never have really enjoyed fireworks, rather the meaning that the fourth represents ... I must be rather boring!
Either way, I wish you a most glorious and Happy 4th, Beth! :))

Ohmigolly! And Uncle Sam is holding what appears to be dynamite - and the kid is not only holding a gun, a sword at his feet ... but it looks like there is another sword strapped to his waist!!! EEsh!
