To my Best Love -Guest Heart Thursday
July is nearly here, with its sparkle and pagentry--especially here in the United States for the Fourth of July. The air is filled with sparklers, feisty poppers punctuate the night air. Flags fly and red, white and blue are everywhere.
I wanted to post one more romantic June postcard in celebration of this lovely summer of fragrant roses, beauty and true love. Have a beautiful day everyone!

At the Theatre -Postcard Friendship Friday #173
In days of old it seems romance included the "chase." That lovely merry way of man pursuing woman. He gets a bit close, she moves that much farther away. Mystery moves in her eyes and he cannot resist her. The best romance ends well when he chases her until she catches him.
In this marvelous postcard, I laugh to myself, wondering how that girl could possibly keep her eyes on the stage below. With that handsome young fellow staring so intently as he is, no wonder her cheeks are flushed! One gets the idea it won't be long before she is thoroughly kissed! But perhaps she will keep him at arms length--with a come hither glint. Ah, the chase, ah, young love...
Have a fabulous day, dear friends and happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

To My Lover -Guest Heart Thursday
I just love this lady's beautiful dress and gold accents. I especially love the way the golden hearts hang down in the background. She seems like such a cheerful young woman. I also found a face in the pink flowers over sprayed out over her shoulder. Do you see it? Or do I just have a really active imagination? (grin)

Flag Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #172
When I was a little girl, I was convinced the flags I saw flying on June 14th were there in celebration of my birthday. "I'm famous," I would say. lol Suffice it to say, as early as first grade, my schoolmates made sure I discovered the truth of the matter!
I've always loved Flag Day. There is so much fascinating history to be found. It was after the Declaration of Independence was signed that Americans chose a flag of their own to celebrate their freedom. On June 14, 1777 - Flag Day - the Second Continental Congress approved a star and a stripe for each state. The flag quickly became the symbol of America and of freedom.
When Francis Scott Key penned his famous "Star Spangled Banner" during the war of 1812, the flag he wrote about bore fifteen stars and fifteen stripes.
In 1818, because so many states were thinking of banding together, the design was changed. The American flag kept the first original thirteen stripes, adding a field of blue with a single star for each new state. I love our flag. The history behind it is poignant and difficult--especially when we remember all the men who sacrificed their lives for the incredible freedoms we enjoy today.
Happy Flag Day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Baby Birdies -Guest Heart Thursday
We have had a birdfeeder out on the front porch. The mama birdies bring the babies to the feeder, eat the food, then feed the little ones. It is the most darling thing to watch.
If you look closely, you can see hearts in those apple blossom petals!

June Bride -Postcard Friendship Friday #171
June is the month of roses and of brides. I can think of no lovelier time for romance to blossom and come to fruition, than this time of year.
This sweet bride with her bouquet of blooms is perfect for June and this week's Postcard Friendship Friday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Heart of Roses -Guest Heart Thursday
The lady in pink reminds me of some of the artwork by the old masters. The meadows and scenery are beautiful. That cute little cherub with that heart of roses is adorable. I hope you enjoy this postcard as much as I have!

June Romance
June is the month of romance and love. I like this couple--and that fellow's luxurious beard is certainly unusual for the age in which this postcard was printed. He looks as though he is about to say something important. From her expression, she's eagerly awaiting what that might be.
Have a lovely day everyone.

National Rose Month -Postcard Friendship Friday #170
Roses have a long tradition in the United States. In fact, George Washington was the first rose breeder in the United States . 85 percent of all Americans say their favorite flower is the rose. I am numbered among those.
I have my own special rose story to share. Years ago, while searching for a new home, we stayed in my darling Grandmother's basement. I look back and realize it was one of the happiest times of our lives--we had the privilege of living there for two whole years. Even with all five of us squashed into 450 square feet, it was a wonderful place for children to grow and play.
I remember the day my small daughter wanted to help in the garden. While my back was turned, she happily whacked Grandma's favorite red rose bush down to the quick. Not knowing what else to do, I found some gauze and we bound it back together. Every morning, we placed used coffee grounds upon its roots and hoped for the best.
Our family moved mid-summer. I'll never forget the letter I received a few months later.
Grammie wrote: I wanted you to know that the rose that dear Joybells cut back has been a blessing to me. A lesson. I really thought it was a goner. Then you bound it up, gave it special care and now it is more beautiful than ever. It’s like life. God knows the root is there, but sometimes He needs to prune it severely to bring forth beauty--then with loving care, He brings it to fulfillment. All my love, I miss you, Grammie
May the fragrance of Roses fill your lives, dear Friends.

Gathering Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday
Gathering hearts--what a delightful idea! I especially love her dress--she is even showing her ankles. Scandelous! That hat is especially wonderful--even with the bow holding it in place, I wonder how she is able to keep it on her head?
