I'm a Fan - Guest Heart Thursday

This is a more recent Valentine Card--probably from the 1990's.  I love these character's faces--those glasses are just darling.  Those hats seem like they'd be just perfect in all this rain!!!

Butterfly and the Girl

This is some stationery Clytie and I used when we were younger.  This artistic style was very popular back in the 1960's.   I feel nostalgic when I see it!

Today is so rainy and soggy, I thought the contrast to the dark clouds with the sunny brightness of this happy image might bring a little cheer!

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Apple, or Orange? - Sunday Scans

I own a well-used children's book of poetry from the early 1900's.  This is one of the wonderful pen and ink drawings from that lovely book.  I love the style of this long-ago artist.  My question is--do you think the fruit is an apple?  Or an orange?

Al over at "Al's Photography Blog" is hosting a wonderful meme. It's called "Sunday Scans" and is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

Armed Forces Day - Postcard Friendship Friday #64

Armed Forces Day in the United States, salutes men and women of every branch of military service. These brave individuals are often called upon at a moment's notice to perform risky and perilous missions for Freedom and country.  There are courageous men from every generation of my family's history, who fought valiantly for Freedom.  I am deeply grateful for their sacrifice.

Up until the 1950's, each branch of the American military had their own day of celebration.   But on August 31, 1949,  Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day.  This new holiday consolidated honoring the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard into one fabulous celebration.   On February 20, 1950, President Harry Truman proclaimed Armed Forces Day as a national holiday. All branches of American military celebrated the first Armed Forces Day on May 20, 1950.

I intend on calling my Dad today--to thank that grand old soldier for his personal sacrifice and bravery.  In WW2, Dad was captured by the Nazis.  He survived months of captivity in one of the worst Nazi war camps on record--he barely made it out with his life.  He is our hero.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

The Birthday Fairy - Guest Heart Thursday

This was a card given to me on my 50th birthday.   Yes, there are hearts all throughout--which makes it perfect for Guest Heart Thursday.  But there is another special reason I've posted this card.  Your host, the heart lady herself, celebrated her 50th birthday last week!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SISSY!  Thought you were going to get away unscathed, eh?  Watch out for those birthday fairies!  Aren't they the cutest things?!  lol

Be sure to drop by and wish Sissy a very HAPPY FIFTIETH!

Our dear Mom's birthday was yesterday and my anniversary was Saturday.  May is a GREAT month!

Shimmering - Sunday Scans

This is a card I received years ago.  I love the way this fairy shimmers--the scan really doesn't do the card justice.  You can see some of the wonderful detail when you click for the larger picture.  I thought this to be the perfect thing for today's Sunday Scan!

Happy Returns - Postcard Friendship Friday #63

Postcard Friendship Friday is late because of this week's odd happenings with Blogger.  So sorry about any inconvenience this caused.

Today my husband and I celebrate 28 years of marriage.  In honor of our wedding anniversary I'm posting this wonderful old postcard.

Looking back, I would marry my sweetheart all over again.  What a great adventure it has been!  And we're not done yet!   I am dearly blessed by the love of my darling husband.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Mother's Love - Postcard Friendship Friday #62

In France, Mother's Day is celebrated the last Sunday of May with a cake resembling a bouquet of flowers.  This lovely traditional cake is followed by a lavish family dinner.

Children in France make cards, crafts or write poems for their mothers. Many families treat their mothers by cooking a breakfast or giving her a treat of a perfect mother’s day brunch in style.

In France whether it’s a pleasant conversation over a glass of wine, organizing a party, or playing indoor and outdoor games with family, mother’s day is made playful and celebratory.  Presenting Moms with gift baskets which might contain gourmet chocolates, special wines and cheeses, along with a book by a favorite author, cosmetics and perfumes, is a wonderful tradition.

The French really know how to spoil their Mothers!

Happy Mother's Day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

You're a Good Skate! - Guest Heart Thursday

This is another Valentine's Day Card made in the USA, sometime in the late 1930's.  It seems to have been well-loved.  I love the  outfit the little girl wears--short dress, bloomers, matching anklets and Mary Jane skates.  I'm sure that little boy with his sailor shirt, blue shorts and matching socks, is showing off a bit for his small lady love.

A Note From Grammie - Sunday Scans

Here is another of Grammie's cards.  She saved it, I am sure, because it was from her beloved daughter--my own sweet Mumsie.  She loved it so much, she dated it 1956 and wrote, "Eva gave me a beautiful fern.  I'll always remember after it dies.  I can see it plainly."

It makes me wonder what story there may be behind this card!
