Apples in the Apple Tree -Postcard Friendship Friday #432

This is such a beautiful postcard.  I adore the whole idea of gathering apples into one's apron!  When I was a child I did just that and felt the romance of the moment.  This takes me back to those childhood memories of harvesting the winter apples, which were then stored for the colder months.

That amiable turkey looks like he wants one of those apples, don't you think?  What a friendly fellow he is!  Most turkeys are NOT that nice.

I hope you are having a wonderful week!  May God bless you with joy.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Halloween Apple Peel Game - Postcard Friendship Friday #86

In ancient times, the Apple Peel Game was quite popular among young people during "Snap Apple Night."  An apple was peeled continuously with a paring knife so the peel had no break.  When the entire apple peel was cut free, it was tossed over the shoulder without looking.  It was said the peel would fall in the shape of a letter of the alphabet.  This was thought to be the first letter of the name of one's true love.

Apple, or Orange? - Sunday Scans

I own a well-used children's book of poetry from the early 1900's.  This is one of the wonderful pen and ink drawings from that lovely book.  I love the style of this long-ago artist.  My question is--do you think the fruit is an apple?  Or an orange?

Al over at "Al's Photography Blog" is hosting a wonderful meme. It's called "Sunday Scans" and is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

Summer Apples

This is another illustration from my battered and beloved book of Children's poetry. Here the small child is decorously eating a pealed and cut apple from a plate.  No sign of the table knife he'd need to cut it up...  Hmmm..

I have wonderful memories of sitting atop the apple tree with a good book and a lapful of crunchy apples pulled from the tree's forgiving branches. What a delight to sit cuddled in the fork of the branch. To read and munch fruit so good and succulent, the juice would run down my chin. Hands sticky? Down the tree to wipe them against the deep grasses of the field. Ah, childhood!

Daddy Update: Dad is getting stronger every day. To offset the effects of the heat wave, we have moved Dad and Mom to our home. We have a small air conditioner in the living room which we are using to keep Dad cool. It is supposed to be 103 today, which is dangerous for a person of Dad's age, especially with his severe injuries. Next week I will be driving dad to an appointment with the plastic surgeon. It looks like he'll need some grafts done to cover part of the open area of the wound.
.Thank you again for all your good thoughts and prayers. THANK YOU!!! Please keep praying for Dad's continued healing.
