Ribbons in Her Hair
This girl has an unusually lovely face. That hair is something else, too! I love the star jewelry in her hair and the way she's added the curling ribbon over all.
This is another postcard from my "Cyber" collection. I'm so grateful to those bloggers out there who share their wonderful finds with the rest of us. I don't always remember where I find them, so if this came from your blog, let me know so I can link back to you.

Sweet Little Dancer - Pink Saturday
I found this lovely dancer in pink and blue at Marie's Freebies. If you haven't had a chance to visit Marie's blog, please do--she has an exquisite collection of vintage items! And she's willing to share them for free!
I especially liked this little dancer--that is one amazing costume! She looks a bit faery-like.

It's "LBJ" Day! - Postcard Friendship Friday #26
Today is Lyndon Baines Johnson Day! This is a national holiday in Texas where "LBJ" was born on August 27, 1908. He was the 36th president of the United States, serving from 1963-1969. When President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, Vice President Johnson became President of the United States.
In an address before Congress President Johnson pledged support for Kennedy's legislative agenda which included civil rights and education. Along with supporting the civil rights movement, Johnson overcame southern resistance and convinced Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed many forms of racial segregation. Johnson signed it into law on July 2, 1964.
Then in 1965, he achieved passage of a second civil rights bill, the Voting Rights Act to outlaw discrimination in voting and to allow many Black Americans in the southern states to vote for the first time. I was astonished to discover some people were not allowed to vote, clear into the mid-1960's, because of skin color. THAT is a SHAME. I'm glad today every Citizen of the United States has the right and opportunity to vote.
When he left the presidency in 1969, LBJ returned to Texas. During his retirement he wrote The Vantage Point, taught students and participated in a series of national symposia on the critical issues of modern America. Johnson died at his ranch on January 22, 1973, and is buried in the family cemetery at the LBJ Ranch near his birthplace. Shortly after his death, the Texas State Legislature created a legal state holiday to be observed every year on August 27 to honor Johnson. The holiday was first celebrated on August 27, 1973.

Cupid in the Heart - Guest Heart Thursday
Here is another wonderful postcard I found online. I have added it to my "cyber" collection. I love the way these old postcards were made. If you examine the drawing closely, it is made up of tiny dots of color. Such an ingenious and lovely art form.
I thought this to be perfect for Guest Heart Thursday! For more wonderful heart art, photography and heart stuff, visit Clytie at Random Hearts for Guest Heart Thursday.

Rosy Get Well Wishes
Here is another lovely card from Grammie's extensive collection. The get well cards people used to send one another are so delightful. There is a lovely ribbon detail, which though worn now, must have been charming when the card first arrived in the mailbos. And these roses are truly inspirational!
So, everyone out there--stay well! And if you aren't well, Get Well Soon!

Love Birds - Pink Saturday
I love this beautiful postcard with it's rustic boards and contrasting pink flowers--I think the doves on the stairs are a lovely compliment to the romantic scene unfolding just above. The birds seem quite interested in all the goings on, don't they?

National Radio Day - Postcard Friendship Friday #25
I found this postcard online and thought it perfect for the day. It is an old American Sunday School Union postcard from the late 1920's. When I was a girl my family attended a church in the hills sponsored by that very organization.
National Radio Day has more modern origins! It seems to have been kicked off in the 1990's when radio station personnel began talking about creating a holiday just for them. Though there are no congressional records or presidential proclamations designating August 20th as National Radio Day, it seems to have become a well-known holiday in its own right.
Happy National Radio Day and Post Card Friendship Friday!

Happy Anniversary Dad and Mom
This card is another from our Grammie's collection.
Happy Anniversary, Dad and Mom! I'm a little late, but still--I believe 53 years of marriage is something to be applauded. Dad is feeble and not doing well these days, yet Mom takes care of his needs--watching over him with love and great loyalty.
I am grateful for the example of their marriage--how they have supported one another over the years, working through hard times--things I'm not sure most marriages would survive.
Thank you Dad and Mom--and Congratulations!

Bunny's Journal - Happy Pink Saturday!
This darling card was in Grammie's card collection. There is something so soft and sweet about this little bunny. I wonder what her day was like? From the look on her face it must have been pretty wonderful!

International Left Hander's Day! - Happy Postcard Friday #24
Yes, it is Friday the Thirteenth--hence this hilarious postcard I found online sometime ago. However it is also, happily, International Left Hander's Day! This delightful holiday was first celebrated on August 13, 1976. It was started by Lefthander's International.
Did you Know?
* While many people are left handed, very few are 100% left handed. For example, many Left handers golf and bat right handed. On the other hand, there is a high percentage of righties who are 100% right-handed.
* Sinistrophobia is the fear of left-handedness, or things on the left side.
* Lefties are also called "southpaws." The term was coined in baseball to describe a left handed pitcher.

* Tuesdays are Lefties luck day.
* Only about 10% of the population is left handed.
* During the 1600's, people thought left handers were witches and warlocks.
* It is believed that all polar bears are left handed.
* There is a rumor octopi have but one right hand. Scientists are diligently studying this issue.
* Right handed people operate in the left side of the brain. Left handed people use the right side. Therefore, only left handed people are in their right mind?
* Right handed people operate in the left side of the brain. Left handed people use the right side. Therefore, only left handed people are in their right mind?
Lefthander's Slogan: Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it.
I am ambidextrous! When I use chopsticks, or eat using utensils with my left hand, things actually taste different--suffice it to say, I think it may be true that Left Handers do indeed experience the world a little differently than the rest.

Happy Birthday Honey! - Pink Saturday
I love this wonderful old card. It is from our Gramma Jenny's collection. I think she kept it, not only because it is beautiful, but because we all used to attend a church that looked a lot like this--it even had a steeple with a bell we kids took turns ringing on Sunday mornings.
I am one of the most blessed people I know--I have two incredibly wonderful younger sisters! My youngest sister Honey celebrated her birthday recently. Honey is so dear to my heart--so precious in my life. She has suffered so much, yet her beauty shines through. She is lovely in every way and I am in awe of her strength.
Happy Birthday dearest Honey--and Happy Pink Saturday!

Wiggle Your Toes Day - Postcard Friendship Friday #23
I am a barefoot person. I was delighted to discover that today, August 6th, is Wiggle Your Toes Day!
Not all toes are alike, of course! Toes come in all shapes and sizes. There is even a small percentage of the population who have two or more toes partially joined together....web like toes! People like one of my favorite cousins. I was quite envious of her lovely webbed toes.
So, to celebrate, release your tooties from those shoes and wiggle them in the air for all to see. Wiggling your toes in a pond, pool or in the river is a great way to celebrate.
No one really knows how Wiggle Your Toes Day originated. And there is some disagreement on the actual day it should be celebrated. The vast majority of websites record this event on August 6th. There are, however, some who suggest August 7th or the first Sunday in August.
Happy PFF and Happy Wiggle Your Toes Day!

A Dog's Life - Guest Heart Thursday
This Valentine was made in the USA in the early 1930's. The card is folded so only the girl with her Valentine are showing. When you unfold the card, the boy and his dog are revealed. I love the girl's bloomers--and laughed at the look on her face... I'm not sure about the look on that poor boy's face. Not to mention the dog! They both don't look too thrilled. (grin)

Bedtime Stories
I found this illustration at Coralie's wonderful blog The Vintage Cottage. What a delightful lady she is!
This especially touched something in my heart today. Our three grown children were so excited--they came tumbling in for a visit after purchasing their very first car. It is a beauty, too--and they got it for a VERY good price.
But for a moment, as I watched their exuberance I remembered back to when they were small, at my knee, listening to the storybooks I read to them before bed time.
I'm so glad for those memories.
