I love the art of Frances Brundage.  She is an inspiration to me--I wish I could have met her, but she was born before my time.  This is such a darling card for Halloween.  Kittens and children are equally as mischievous.

Kitty Cat Haircut -Postcard Friendship Friday #342

I found this delightful postcard a a few years ago ago at the Eclectic Pink Rose and added it to my cyber collection of vintage cards and postcards.  That fascinating blog no longer exists--but I wanted to give my friend there, credit for this funny postcard.

This picture reminds me so much of my own children and their relationship with various cats in our family. Our first cat, Sir Brat T. Bone, who lived to the ripe old age of 18, lived through much of this kind of activity. He didn't seem to mind.

When I was a tiny girl, I adored dolls and cats, among other things.  I love this postcard so much, I am re-posting it.  This sweet girl is up to something I am sure.  I adore the mischievous sparkle in this little girl's eye--and the look on the kitten's face is priceless!

I am sharing this in honor of my darling little niece, who's loving heart and funny antics make me smile.

This wonderful old postcard reminds me so much of my sister Clytie and I when we were young. We did indeed dress the puppies in doll clothes, though I don't know if we ever actually were successful in any attempt to dress up a kitty cat!!

The little ones in our lives bring so much charm and joy.  I am so grateful for the joy of the children.

Respect your Cat Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #113

Today is Respect Your Cat Day.  I could not find any history on how this holiday started, with the exception that on this day in 1384, King Richard the Second issued an edict forbidding the consumption of cats.  I just couldn't imagine anyone having a cat for dinner--except as an honored, if not interesting guest.

I have enjoyed the company of cats since I was a little girl.  Dogs are wonderful critters and I have made friends with quite a few.  But there is something about the independent nature of cats, combined with an endearing love they have for those they choose as friends, which captures me every time.

Today, March 28th, for many years now, we celebrate Respect Your Cat Day.  I'm glad there is such a holiday to pamper and cuddle up to these darling furry little friends.

The picture above is of our beloved Toez.  She is a polydactyl cat.  She's quite adept at using her mitten paws to get into just about everything.  Here she is at the window, er, rather--interactive kitty TV.

The kitten with the pink ribbon on the left reminds me of our special friend Toez the Polydactyl Cat when she was a kitten.  I've always welcomed cats as friends.  There's something special about their independence, capricious playfulness, mischievous personality which pulls at one's heart strings.

When Toez (otherwise known as little tiny keekat) deigns to come and sit upon my lap, all on her own--it just melts my heart.

Lots of Fun - Guest Heart thursday

My love for Valentines started when I was very young.  I think I've saved every Valentine card I've received.  In my early 20's at a local estate sale, I bought an entire notebook full of Valentines from the 20's, 30's and 40's.  Since then my collection of cards and Valentines Cards has burgeoned.  I adore them!  It is so great to have a place to share them with you.   Have a lovely day!

Springtime Pussy Willows

I've always loved pussy willows.  When I was a little girl, I pretended they were tiny kittens.  Their little beds were made of walnut shell halves.  I would put them to bed between flower petals.  I made tiny houses of twigs for them.  In my child's eyes, they would purr and snuggle in my fingers. Sometimes they still do.

Sweet Cat

I have been out of touch for a few weeks because my computer broke down.  Its poor motherboard gave up the ghost because of a bad power source.  It is up and running as of yesterday, so here I am.  The above card is especially precious to me, as it was sent to me by my good friend Catherine. 

The above is of the back of the card--isn't that just the cutest thing?  I wonder where its tail went?

We have a new kitten leaping through our lives these days--her markings are very similar to these.  Her name is Princess Twinkle Toes in honor of her wonderfully odd paws--she has six toes on each foot!

There is a lot of joy to be found in the love of a kitten.

Fly the Flag and Hug the Cat - Postcard Friendship Friday #13

NOTE to those who are new to PFF:  Postcard Friendship Friday was started by Marie, who because of her loss of sight, handed it over to me. Marie’s idea was for people to post their postcards, then visit each other’s blogs to view them. PFF is NOT a place for people to sell, or advertise ephemera. This is an event where FRIENDS who love postcards interact.  If you are selling or advertising, the link to your blog will be removed.

It is Memorial Day Weekend, a time when many people visit cemeteries and memorials to honor those who have died in the line of duty.  Memorial Day was first observed in Waterloo, New York in 1866.  In 1968 US Congress created a three-day holiday.  In 1971 the law moved Memorial Day to the last Monday in May.

One tradition is to fly the United States flag at half-staff from dawn until noon.  Volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.  In our little town, American flags bravely bloom all along the sidewalks for the duration of the weekend.

Families often gather for fun, games and picnics.  Barbecued foods are VERY popular on this holiday.  One of the longest standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, an auto race which has been held during the Memorial Day holiday since 1911.

Today is also Hug Your Cat Day!  There is plenty of documentation that this holiday is celebrated world wide--though some do so on May 28th, others on May 30th. 

No one knows how this holiday originated, but it is a splendid Idea.  It is a proven fact the Friendship of an animal, can actually lower a person's blood pressure.  The holiday is celebrated by spending time with one's cat, giving them extra special attention. Cats and humans have had a long history of Friendship.  In 2004, a grave was excavated in Cyprus which contained the skeletons of a cat and a human being laid close to one another.  The grave is estimated to be 9,500 years old!

Two Kittens and a Hat

Here is another wonderful card from our Grammie's collection.  Kittens are so dear--these two furry darlings kind of remind me of our "ghost" kitty hiding upstairs.  We still have not seen her, though there is evidence she's been out and about in the night.  (sigh) 

It is SO hard to wait!  But, oh, happy thought, maybe she'll come out today!

Violin Practice

I played the Viola for almost five years. Today I think I would have chosen the Violin, but in those days, I loved the deeper tones of the cello. When there wasn't a cello available I chose the Viola.

I love the look on that kitten's face--it seems there's a broken string dangling there.  And the dog is howling--obviously enjoying herself.  

Hmmm... the little girl doesn't seem like she's into practicing, does she?  She's holding the bow all wrong, and from the look on her face she'd rather be playing outside in the garden! 

Itty Bitty Tuxedo Kitten

Here is another of Grammie's wonderful cards.  She loved all kinds of babies and had several versions of this little kitty.  This tiny kitten is full of mischief, as you can see!

Those Who Bring Sunshine...

This is another of Grandma Jenny's cards. This lovely card was from Grammie's best friend Ruth. They had a wonderful loving relationship which I'm sure transcends time itself! I love the little kittens. They so delightfully Roley poly! Another odd thing--I have an ink bottle which looks exactly like the one in the card.
