Here's Some Luck -Postcard Friendship Friday #475

I adore black cats, and I love the idea good luck follows them.  I have a wonderful little kitten, SnowBug Da'Bean, who has long black fur and is a regular clown.

He's a blessing to me, that's for sure.  Have a lovely weekend, sweet Friends.  Happy Halloween and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Merry Hallowe'en!

I adore the artwork of Ellen Clapsaddle.  Her paintings of children remind me of my own when they were small.  She catches the essence of the mischief and beauty of childhood.

Here two little girls are playing a familiar Halloween game, peeling an apple, then throwing the long peel over one's shoulder to see what letter of the alphabet it resembles when it lands.  The theory is that letter is the first initial of the guy or gal one might marry someday.  Haha

Have a great week.  Fall is here--but winter is not far behind.  Blessings and hope to you dear ones.

Pumpkin Faces Dance and Gleam -Postcard Friendship Friday #472

What a darling Halloween Postcard!  I love the hanging pumpkin, and especially that wide-eyed black cat.  I have two cats now, Toez the Polydactyl Cat, and our new little friend SnowBug Da'Bean, who looks a great deal like the kitten under the shock-haired boy on this postcard!

Have a lovely weekend, Friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, and Happy Halloween!

A Thrilling Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #470

Now that school has started, Halloween is the next holiday in sight.  It is stormy and chilly today.  I actually built a fire for the first time since last Spring.  I will miss the mild summertime temps we had this year.  But Fall is here and winter is just around the corner.

Hope you are all having a GREAT weekend!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

May Love Light Your Halloween Lantern! -Postcard Friendship Friday #330

I posted this lovely little postcard in 2010.  I have been so busy this past week that I'm reposting it.  It was is a first to find pumpkins and cherubs together!  I had never seen that before or since.  The idea still hits my funny bone.  These two little fellows look like they are up to something, don't you think?

This weekend will be a poignant time for me.  This coming Sunday will be the two-year anniversary of my Beloved's home-going. Some days it seems as though he left just yesterday, yet other times it is as though he has been gone for the longest time. I miss him.

Grief is like the ocean--there are storms of tears--then moments when the waves sparkle in the sunshine. I will always, always be thankful for the great adventure my husband and I shared. What an unusual life I have led!

That adventure continues...I walk hand in hand with the Creator Who loves me, I walk through the valley of shadows, I drink of cool refreshing waters. I sit with Him in the sunshine, laugh and weep with Him in the rain... I am grateful for His Presence here with me. He is my Friend.

In the meantime, enjoy the harvest, pumpkins and celebration, sweet Friends.  Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers. Have a great week, everyone, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Kiss the Pumpkin, my dear; For pumpkin Pie is on the Menu -Postcard Friendship Friday #247

What a darling little girl.  Her hat and over sized apron are so cute.  I have a feeling she might just give that brave pumpkin face a hug and a kiss!  Perhaps that pumpkin will become a prince?  I would think kissing a pumpkin would be much more pleasant than kissing a frog!  (Actually, I know this from experience as a little girl) (don't ask) (grin)

This is indeed a Halloween card, but it brought back memories of what we did with all those lovely carved pumpkins.  When I was younger and more ambitious, the pumpkins were cut into pieces and cooked down for hours in a large pan until their consistency was perfect for pumpkin pies.  Those pumpkin pies were the very best, especially with whipped Cream.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hallowe'en Greetings -Postcard Friendship Friday #241

I have posted this wonderful postcard in days past--but I love it so much I'm posting it again.  This artist captured something quite remarkable in this painting.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

We are still in the midst of the chimney and fireplace replacement--in fact, as I write this, the repairmen have pulled into the driveway, so I'm making this short and sweet! (grin)

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard  Friendship Friday!

Hallowe'en Greetings -Guest Heart Thursday

I love how this artist depicts children.  She's wonderful.  As are these kids.  You can find hearts here, of course--in the folds of those ribbons decorating dress and hair.  On the other hand, that pumpkin with his crown of leaves looks decidedly scary, don't you think?

Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Halloween Angel -Guest Heart Thursday

This lovely Halloween angel brings a bit of luck to October's fun.  I loved her wings.  It was easy to do a tiny bit of manipulation to bring out the hearts.

I hope you have a GREAT day!

A Merry Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #190

This lovely postcard has a rare feature!  Her arm moves!  How it survived through the years is anyone's guess--but it is wonderful she made it unscathed.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

A Jolly Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #189

When I was a child, "us kids" loved to play beneath a tall fir tree in the woodlands behind where we lived.  We played there so often, the earth had become packed hard like a floor.  We would sweep the tree needles from the dirt floor with the fragrant ends of fir branches.

In October we sometimes would decorate our magical play place for Halloween.  Paper ghosts hung overhead from long pieces of thin string, jeans and shirt were stuffed to give the likeness of a scary headless man lurking in the shadows. There were places to sit, scraps of cloth spread over crookedly devised tables.  We had a some candles and carved pumpkins, of course.

But when it actually came time to go out into the forest on Halloween...in the dark.  We couldn't make ourselves move from the back porch to the woods.  We had so scared ourselves with ghoulish ghost stories and the like, we had become frightened of our own shadows!  Still--it was a GREAT deal of fun to decorate underneath that tree.

Have a jolly Halloween and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy Veggie Halloween! -Postcard Friendship Friday #188

I adore this postcard with its bright colors and happy smiles--October is the month of harvest parties and  old traditions.  I love this postcard--it's not like the usual type with ghosts and witches.  I wouldn't mind a troop of these veggies knocking at my door!

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Merry Halloween - Postcard Friendship Friday #82

I have always loved  black cats.  It is unfortunate they get so much bad press here in America.  Their reputation is not so bad in other places.  In Scotland, a strange black cat on a porch is said to bring prosperity to the owner.  In other lore, if a white hair is found on a black cat, it is considered to be good luck, but woe to the one who plucks it out!  In Asia and the UK, the black cat carries good tidings, and to dream of a black cat foretells good fortune.

My family's history with black cats started with my Dad, who as a boy companied with a cat named Snow.  When I was a little girl, we had a little black cat, with a swatch of white under her chin--who's name was Snow.  When my children were young we miraculously rescued a tiny black kitten from between the walls of the old Carriage House.  She was named Snow, too.  You can read about the daring rescue of our dear Snow "Bunny" in Angel Stories.
