I posted this unusual postcard back in 2009--enough time has passed by, I thought I'd put it up again. The girl is beautiful and the dress is just stunning. I would LOVE to have a dress with sleeves like that! The embroidered flowers are lovely, too. The size of her waist, though, bothers me. She's so tiny I think she might break.
I hope you all had a wonderful week, dear Friends. Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

She probably had a corset strung up so tight she couldn't breathe. Some ladies would even have a rib or two removed to make their waist smaller, can you imagine? Back then surgery had to be pretty primitive.
As for Abe's sandwich, no recipe, I think he was just hungry. LOL It was Virginia ham from the deli which was sliced thin, I warmed in a skillet I had sprayed, then when good and hot, put on a slice of bread, then a piece of Swiss cheese, some sweet onion slices and a squirt of mustard and the other slice of bread. That was all, nothing else.
Snowing here and really starting to stick. Have granddaughter to pick up at 2:30, I doubt they will let them leave early.
Hope your Father is doing better. I had his name put on a prayer list a friend of mine has on her blog. Here is her blog if you wish to visit. http://twistedfencepost.wordpress.com
I also had her put my niece's name on there, Sherry, she's do to have her double mastectomy on the 18th.
Have a nice week-end.
I agree that she is probably cinched into a very tight corset! I'm glad we don't have to do that to feel pretty now. Her dress is gorgeous though!
yes probably a corset, but the shadows could be giving us the wrong impression.
Mom used to hem up some pretty fancy dresses for some ladies and she was always taking waists in and later letting them out.
Thanks for the visit to my Birds Blog
She's gorgeous! It looks to me as though she is standing with her back arched to accentuate her waist.
She is lovely -- as is the dress ... so romantic! Happy PFF!
What a fabulous postcard- And that dress is stunning... Love the cards you've been posting- Really great graphics!
Thinking of you Beth, hope Dad is doing much better. Lovely image postcard :)
happy Friday !!
Lovely image indeed, I too think her waist is unnaturally small. But you never know, she could have been working out. Happy PFF
I got the same impression as Sheila - that she is standing with her back arched in order to look smaller. Probably had corsets on too. The dress really is stunning, isn't it?

Have a great day!
Hi Beth,
Finally! You've posted a European Film Star Postcard!!!
This is the legendary French actress Pauline Polaire (1874–1939) a.k.a. Polaire, who appeared in several silent French films of the 1910s. The wonderful postcard is rare. I've never seen it before.
Happy PFF!
Paul
I have to disagree with Paul; this is French singer Émilie Marie Bouchaud (stage name Polaire), who was famous for her tiny corseted waist. Whether she was also famous for her singing I do not know.
Hi Chris,
It's the samme woman.
Paul
