On the Fence -Postcard Friendship Friday #135

I apologize for getting this up a little late this morning.  My darling is getting ready to go to the doctor to have some tests done.  We will know results next week.  We are praying for good news.

In the meantime, have a lovely weekend and thank you for your patience.

Chicken Dance Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #134

I know it is the 21st--a day after this celebration--but I just couldn't resist the fun.  September 20th is Chicken Dance Day in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This is a newer holiday which began in 1994, when the Crown Prince of Bavaria visited Cincinnati and participated in their Oktoberfest Zinzanniti celebration.  At that time celebrations included the world's largest chicken dance. With 40,000 people joining in the activity, the event was actually recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.  Can you imagine a crowd that size all doing the chicken dance?  Wow!  The dust cloud must have been incredible--or at least they shook the earth a bit.

Angelic Heart Cello -Guest Heart Thursday

I love music--in particular I adore the sound of the cello.  I have loved classical music since I was a little girl.  I liked making up stories to the music mom played over the radio in our kitchen--only back then, I called it Orchestra Music.  I had no idea it was called classical music until I was much older.

I remember Mom and I were acting out a fairytale to the music we heard one long-ago morning.  It was so perfect, we were sure it was a ballet describing Snow White, or Sleeping Beauty.  How we laughed when the announcer said the title of the music was "The Humped Back Horse."  Ah, those are wonderful memories.  I must have been only five or six years old at the time.

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Two Worlds Collide

This is a drawing by one of the old masters.  I love the intensity of this incredible painting.  This inspires me.

I apologize for being a bit out of touch this summer.  It has been a very heavy time for me and for my family.  I thank those who have taken time to inquire.  There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Best blessings to you all.

Happy Birthday! -Postcard Friendship Friday #133

Two very dear friends have birthdays today--Lori turns 50 and Lynn is 55.  Both of these lovely ladies do not look past the age of 30.  I have NO idea how they do it.

I am SO thankful for their friendship and hand of beauty in my life.  I am SO blessed.  May the mighty Creator bless them this perfectly marvelous day!

Celebrate Friendship today!

Grandfather's Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #132

Yes, Grandfather's Day will be celebrated tomorrow!  What a fun thought--I have had wonderfully lovely Grandparents and I miss them so much.  Grandpa was very dear to me.  We had a special relationship.  When I was a tiny girl, there was a stand of trees in the middle of the Blueberry field Dad planted.  I would make believe those blueberries were the sea and that bit of trees was my own little island.

For years I worked in my garden, making it into a bit of paradise.  Old earrings hung from trees, there was a mushroom patch, flowers all over, which I planted with my own hands.  Grandpa was with me all the way.  He is the one who helped me dig a little circle area under the trees in my garden.  Grandpa taught me how to dig up the ground, turning the earth over with my shovel so the roots of the weeds were exposed and would die.  That garden was beautiful.  I spent years--throughout my childhood, tending that bit of land.  To this day it is called "Beth's Garden.  There isn't much left of my childhood there, but only a few weeks ago, walking through, I found an old earring attached to the branch of an ancient oak.  My childish hands had place it there over 40 years ago.

Grandpa was  my best friend.  I was bullied quite a bit in grade school.  Kids would not play with me, made fun of me--so I often was hurt and was somewhat left alone.  I would come home from school and run to Grampa's house.  I would sit with Grandpa and tell him my woes.  I would cry and he would put his arm around me and just listen.

He is the one who taught me how to see faces and shapes in the trees and clouds.  I remember I was in third grade, Grandpa cut a picture from a fashion magazine and put it in my hands.  "Someday," he said.  "You will look like this."

Years later I found that picture and marveled.  It DID look like me.  I still have that picture from my precious Grandfather

So, all you Grandfathers out there--don't underestimate the influence you have in the lives of your grandchildren.  I thank God for my own dear Granddaddy.  He was my best friend and confidant.  I am looking forward to seeing him in Heaven someday.

Happy Grandfather's Day!
