Happy Birthday Little Sister! -Postcard Friendship Friday #417

I remember the day my youngest sister came home.  She was so tiny with a head of dark hair, deep blue eyes and eyelashes so long they touched her perfectly drawn brows.  What a beautiful baby!  However, I was fourteen years old and as a teen, a newborn wasn't that interesting to me.

Yet,  as she grew we became very good friends.  I wrote songs about her, played with her, teased her and loved her.

She has a whimsical nature much like my own.  Today she turns 46 years old.  It is hard to believe so many years have passed since the day my parents brought home that sweet little girl.  I am grateful to the Lord for my sister.  She is one of my best buddies and is such a blessing in my life!

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Apple Blossoms, Warmth and Congratulations

This card is SO beautiful.  It is in German and according to Google translate it means "Warm Congratulations."  I adore this artist's work.  I am often inspired by these wonderful cards of old.

Fall Winds -Postcard Friendship Friday #376

Hello, sweet Friends.  It has been a long two weeks.  I missed last week--but here is this week's Postcard Friendship Friday.  I hope you enjoy this bit of whimsy.  I love the windswept look of this flower faced maiden.

Fall is peeking from the shadows of the trees.  A chilly wind blows as I gather firewood out back.  The flowers are beginning to feel the cold and the morning sunshine scatters rainbows across the green, green grass.

Have a lovely weekend, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

You are Missed

I have noticed my overseas audience is missing.  They are my largest and I pray for the peoples of those lands with all my heart.

I wanted each of you to know you have been missed.

Does anyone know what the word on this postcard means? I wonder what language it is in?  Let me know if you have any ideas!

God bless you, dear ones.

Greetings From Spring Valley -Postcard Friendship Friday #352

Greetings dear  Friends.  This beautiful postcard of white roses seemed perfect for today's blog. Did you know there is a certain language presented by flowers?  Books have been written about this.  According to the fascinating book Tussie Mussies, by Geraldine Adamich Laufer, in Victorian times, white roses carried the meaning of "unity, silence, keep my secret, I am worthy of you, love, respect and beauty."

I adore roses--my garden is filled with all colors and types of them.  June is when the roses begin to bloom.  I long for the lovely aroma of those lovely flowers.

Here in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon, Spring has sprung with a vengeance!  Last week almost overnight, daffodils and purple crocus burst from the ground and all the fruit trees were suddenly covered with masses of pink and white blossoms.

This morning the sun is peering through the clouds and hope fills the air.  It is going to be a beautiful day. There's something about this time of year which melts the heart with joy. This will be my third Spring without the love of my life.  He liked to work outside this time of year--I miss the camaraderie we shared working in the yard together.  Sometimes when I am outside doing the work which must be done, I fancy my Beloved is there beside me.

And so, Greetings from my own dear Spring Valley to you, dear ones.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Bon Voyage -Postcard Friendship Friday #349

This wonderful old postcard is HUGE! It is printed on heavy stock and is 10 by six inches. At first I thought it was printed in the 1930's. However, I have since discovered this postcard was published in Bavaria around 1914. The artist's name is Ethel DeWees. Her initials are in the lower right-hand side.
.
I love the simplicity of the little girl's dress and hat. The look on her face speaks volumes, as she hands the boy a handful of yellow daisies.
.
The boy, however isn't quite sure what to do with those flowers, and seems a tad terrified! I enjoyed the boy's elegant clothing, complete with frills and captain's hat, along with that fancy, schmancy carpetbag suitcase.

Tulip Faery - Postcard Friendship Friday #326

This is another postcard I bought in Newberg, Ore., when I was young. I loved the idea of flower fairies! This whimsical rendition of tulip fairies is one of my favorites.

I will be having surgery in about ten days.  A little scary, but it will be a relief when it takes place.  May God keep you close to His heart, dear Friends--Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Best Wishes Under Lamp Light

I love this card.  It came from my sweet Grammie.  It reminds me of her--delicate, sweet and a light in my life.  I am not sure where or when this card was printed, but it's elegant length, beautifully crafted flowers and detailed lamp are pure beauty to the eye.

Have a lovely day and treasure those people in life who inspire you to become a better person.

Fairies Dancing -Postcard Friendship Friday #283

I've always loved this postcard, so I'm re-posting it!  I have been incredibly busy this week--In fact, I've been gone for most of it.  This summer I've been away more than I've been home. I'm so grateful for my trustworthy house sitters!  So much to do and so little time.

I bought this postcard when I was a teenager.  I found it in the attic where I'd kept it safe in a keepsake box.  The delicate colors and whimsical nature of this drawing have always delighted my heart.

As Fall commences, I find myself yearning for Spring and Summer.  There is a long and dark winter ahead without my Beloved.

Years ago, Alan and I went for a walk through a forested park in the center of town.  Behind a big fir tree he "found" a basket.  He gave it to me and said we were going to look for treasure.  (grin)  What I didn't know, until years later, was that my sister and Alan's roommate had placed it there and were hiding behind a tree!

We found all sorts of treasures, even a real lightning bug--the first and only one I've ever seen in the Pacific Northwest.  It was getting dark beneath the trees, when he stopped to kiss me.

Then he broke a long cylinder, which glowed green.  "Close your eyes," he said with a grin.  I did...when I opened them, a castle glowed out of the dark, complete with windows and parapets.

A closer look at the castle revealed a small golden box with my name on the lid.  Inside I found an opal necklace.  It was a beautiful, sweet moment I will never forget.

Such a thoughtful, loving man. The castle was in reality a craggy old stump--but in my heart and memory it was a faery castle, brought to life by a man who clearly loved me.  I still have that little golden box with my name engraved on the top.

Have a great weekend, dear Friends.  May God bless you with wonderful moments with the ones you love.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy Birthday Leigh - Postcard Friendship Friday #274

It was our darling sister Leigh's birthday yesterday. What a delightful wonderful woman she has become. She is one in a million!  I am so proud of her and I love her with all my heart.

Have a lovely day everyone.  The sun is shining, and here in our little drought filled valley, we are expecting rain next week.  I hope it will come.  In the meantime, happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Snowball Bushes

When I was a small child, my siblings and I loved the snowball bush in the corner of the lawn.  It grew like an umbrella, covering all sides with beautiful white snowball flowers, whilst beneath was a fragrant cave where we hid and played.

As I grew into a teenager, the snowballs served another purpose--I used them to pelt my brothers, sisters and cousins in great snowball fights.  And always the bush grew and thrived.

I was over to visit Mumsie awhile back...and the bush is still there.  Though a bit smaller than I remember.  Have a lovely day friends.  Enjoy the summer whilst it lasts!

My Heart's Gift -Guest Heart Thursday

I love this postcard--it reminds me so much of me and my little sisters.  I am so blessed by their love and friendship.  I treasure them with all my heart.  God bless all sisters and may He strengthen the bond they share!  Sisters can be of the heart, too.  I have many sisters of heart and soul--the bonds between us are as strong as though we were blood sisters.  You know who you are.   I am SO grateful to you.  ((hugs))  God bless you, dear sisters o' mine.

There are hearts to be found in those lovely red flowers at the top of the postcard.

Have a lovely National Siblings Day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

The Music of Thy Words -Guest Heart Thursday

Such a lovely sentiment.  Have you noticed when people we love speak, it is often just like music in our ears?  I can attest to that.  There are so many I adore--too many to list here--dear ones who's words fill my heart with music--the music of joy.

Sweeter than the song of birds,
Is the music of thy words.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday, sweet Friends.

Happy Fourth of July -Postcard Friendship Friday #175

I apologize for getting this up a day late.  We have had a lot of folks from out of town and then I fell ill later in the afternoon and evening.  I am much better this morning.

We so enjoyed the Fourth of July this year, the parade was full of wonderful things, like antique cars, hometown floats, bands, singers, local princesses, horses and area businesses.

But the moment which stands out to me was when a big army truck full of veterans came by.  I cheered, hooted and hollered until I was hoarse.  I was shouting, "Thank you!"  One of the elderly gentlemen looked me full in the face and saluted me.  I bent my head putting my hands together--and with tears looked back into his eyes.  I am sure there were tears in his, too.

You see, this is the first Fourth of July without my Daddy, who was a WW2 veteran.  In that moment, Dad looked out of that dear man's face and smiled at me.  It was a beautiful reverent meaningful moment.

God bless our veterans and all those who fight for the cause of Freedom.

Decoration Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #174

May thy sweet blosoms
Never cease
To bloom in love and
Trust and peace.

So begins American's celebration of her freedom, fought so bravely many years ago.

I went in to have oral surgery done yesterday, but had to postpone.  My blood pressure was too high.  SO I am on a plethora of pills and still feel a bit groggy from the stuff they gave me yesterday.  I'll be facing surgery after the Fourth of July.  I suppose that is for the best.  In the meantime, everyone, have a GREAT weekend!

Sitting in Her Garden - Pink Saturday

Here is another wonderful piece of art by Alphonse Mucha, a French artist--one of those artists of old, who's work seems to have influenced an entire age of art--characterized as Art Deco, or Art Nouveau.  You can read more about this extraordinary man at The Artist, Alphonse Mucha.

A Sunny Greeting - Postcard Friendship Friday #72

This postcard with its poetic greeting is my wish for each of you this early Friday morning.  Hearing today's national weather reports, it seems it is sunny everywhere except where I live.  As I type this, the clouds are scudding thick over the rising sun--though they say (who are they anyway) it will clear off later and will reach the mid-70's.

In the meantime, I walk in my garden where the faeries flit over the flowers.  The flowers, of course call their greetings--not only to these tiny beings--but to me.  Sometimes they even sing.
