Happy Mother's Day Weekend! -Postcard Friendship Friday #455

I found this darling postcard online.  I couldn't resist posting it--such a whimsical idea.  Can you imagine what a soft and fragrant place a rose would be for a nap?  One might hope, however, that the baby wouldn't roll out--but perhaps the little fellow has wings?

I am blessed with a Mother who loved to tell us about the wee peoples of the forest.  The faeries she introduced to us and their amazing adventures, still live on in my mind.

Mumsie will be 80 years old next weekend.  She loves to work in her garden and still tells wonderful stories.  It is hard to believe she's going to be that old--she looks like she's in her late 60's.  She is beautiful and amazing--she has led an extraordinary life.

Happy Mother's Day dear ones--I pray this weekend is a special one!

This wonderful Christmas Postcard features the joy of the fairies celebration Christmas and the New Year.  It is rare to find fairies, Christmas and the New Year in one vintage postcard!

The Daisy Fairy -Postcard Friendship Friday #363

My garden is burgeoning with flowers.  My lawn is starred with tiny white and pink daisies.  The large daisies are out too--tall, long-legged blooms, snaggling over the bird bath to wink at the cat sitting below.

As a little girl, I dreamed there were fairies in my garden--sometimes even now I think I see them from the corner of my eye.  I've always had a whimsical way of seeing the world--so I wouldn't be a bit surprised to catch a real one hiding among the roses someday.

The sun is shining and the feeling of summer is in the air.  Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Cherry Fairy -Postcard Friendship Friday #344

Here is another of my favorites by Cicely Mary Barker--she is inspiring--her fairy children are so realistic! This little Cherry Fairy is especially dear--reminding me of all the happy, mischievous small boys I've taught and loved--who've given me cause to laugh with them over the years.

I hope you are all having a great week.  Thank you again for your patience.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Tulip Faery - Postcard Friendship Friday #326

This is another postcard I bought in Newberg, Ore., when I was young. I loved the idea of flower fairies! This whimsical rendition of tulip fairies is one of my favorites.

I will be having surgery in about ten days.  A little scary, but it will be a relief when it takes place.  May God keep you close to His heart, dear Friends--Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Easter Greetings via Bunny Express -Postcard Friendship Friday #304

I apologize for getting this out late again.  I have had a difficult weekend.  The loss of my darling--the love of my life, sometimes hits me with a crash--and I am bereft.  Forgive me, please for the lateness of this post. I will do better as time goes on.

I looked high and low to find out who Bunny Swift might be and came up empty-handed.  I fell in love with this unusual postcard as soon as I saw it.  I like the idea that little sprites bring joyous Easter greetings via Bunny express.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy these first days of spring, whether sunny, rainy, snowy, or just plain foggy.

A Joyous Easter Greeting to you!

Fairies Dancing -Postcard Friendship Friday #283

I've always loved this postcard, so I'm re-posting it!  I have been incredibly busy this week--In fact, I've been gone for most of it.  This summer I've been away more than I've been home. I'm so grateful for my trustworthy house sitters!  So much to do and so little time.

I bought this postcard when I was a teenager.  I found it in the attic where I'd kept it safe in a keepsake box.  The delicate colors and whimsical nature of this drawing have always delighted my heart.

As Fall commences, I find myself yearning for Spring and Summer.  There is a long and dark winter ahead without my Beloved.

Years ago, Alan and I went for a walk through a forested park in the center of town.  Behind a big fir tree he "found" a basket.  He gave it to me and said we were going to look for treasure.  (grin)  What I didn't know, until years later, was that my sister and Alan's roommate had placed it there and were hiding behind a tree!

We found all sorts of treasures, even a real lightning bug--the first and only one I've ever seen in the Pacific Northwest.  It was getting dark beneath the trees, when he stopped to kiss me.

Then he broke a long cylinder, which glowed green.  "Close your eyes," he said with a grin.  I did...when I opened them, a castle glowed out of the dark, complete with windows and parapets.

A closer look at the castle revealed a small golden box with my name on the lid.  Inside I found an opal necklace.  It was a beautiful, sweet moment I will never forget.

Such a thoughtful, loving man. The castle was in reality a craggy old stump--but in my heart and memory it was a faery castle, brought to life by a man who clearly loved me.  I still have that little golden box with my name engraved on the top.

Have a great weekend, dear Friends.  May God bless you with wonderful moments with the ones you love.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

All in a Tangle -Postcard Friendship Friday #121

I love bluebells--when I see them in my garden, I know Spring has arrived.  The two floating bluebells held by the fairy couple appear to have become tangled.  What a charming idea--bluebell balloons!

I am going to make this post short, as my husband is recovering from knee surgery and still requires a lot of care.  Have a lovely day, everyone, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

April is a lovely month--full of sunshine, flowers, rain...and birthdays!   April is a popular month for birthdays in my family.  I loved this postcard with tulip faeries.  It seems I'm not the only one who has ever had the idea of tulip fairies!

Faery Curiosity

I found this amazing picture at Fantasy Faeries.  What a wonderful place to visit, if you love fairies!  I loved the wings and the way this piece glows.  I find myself wondering what they're so interested in watching through that faery window.

Have a lovely week everyone!

Fairy Secrets - Postcard Friendship Friday #81

I apologize for getting PFF up so late.  I was gone for a speaking engagement over the past three days and got a very late start this morning!

We were located in the mountains just out of Lebanon, Ore.  There was a small lake where the mist maidens danced in the early mornings.  There was a stand of fir trees gracing the grounds--one could walk beneath them upon paths carpeted with fir needles, where forest leaves, flowers and mosses grew in delicate profusion.  I even found an amazing castle stump glowing in a clearing amidst some young firs.  And then I saw a little doorway at the top of a broken tree which looked for all the world like a faery condo.  (grin)

I love fairies--they're God's littlest angels, you know.  I imagine many of the secrets of faeries keep, would have to do with the seasons--how to coax flowers from their sleep in Spring, what the sunflower sings as it follows the sun, and how to splash color on Fall leaves.  I am sure they know the secret of how to spread the fragile ice feathers I find etched across  my windshield on cold winter mornings.  I would love to sit down and talk with a faery about these things someday.  (grin)  As often as they visit my garden, I am sure that day will come.

I know, I know--I have a GREAT imagination!

Butterfly Rides

I am not sure where I came across this image--it has been in my cyber collection for many years.  These days I credit and link back to where I find the images I love.  But back in the early days I didn't realize it was an important part of sharing ephemera.

I know--this is a Christmas card, but I just couldn't resist putting it up today.  Besides--does this look like a Christmas card to you?  I was surprised.

I've been watching the graceful flight of the butterflies in my garden.  In my mind's eye,  I can see the faeries who ride on their backs.  (grin)  I'm sure they look just like this.

I know, I know...I have a GREAT imagination!  Faeries--God's littlest angels.

Have a beautiful week everyone.

Faeries Three - Sunday Scans

I especially love this wonderful old card, because it reminds me of my sisters and I.  I was 14 and Clytie was 12 when our darling little sister Leigh was born.  She adored us, and we thought she was wonderful.  That love continues to this day--though my youngest Sissy is taller than me and a Mom herself.

How blessed I am to have such incredibly wonderful sisters.  I think I might be one of the most blessed people I know.  (grin)

Al's Photography Blog, by our good friend Al, hosts "Sunday Scans" each week.  I have so enjoyed this meme!  Sunday Scans is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

Lily Pond Faeries - Pink Saturday

When we first moved here the back yard sported waist-high grass, piles of debris and five unusable barbecues!  Now it is an oasis of beauty.  Sword fern grow graciously next to a little waterfall which splashes down into a small pond where Lily of the Valley, purple violet and wild bleeding hearts grow.

Years ago, Dad gave me a lily for the pond.  The goldfish love to hide beneath those broad leaves when the sun gets hot.

I think there must be faeries in my back yard.   If there were, I imagine they would look something like this lovely illustration.

For more incredible views of pink, be sure to visit Bev at Pink Saturday.

Faery Sisters

I love faeries--these two are especially charming.  I could see them atop a friendly daisy in my garden!

This is a postcard from my "cyber" collection.  I often wonder about these charming postcards--who were these dear little children--what were their lives like?  These two look like they would have been a bundle of fun!

Fairy Tales - Pink Saturday

A few years ago I was wandering through one of our town's marvelous antique shops.  I have a small collection of old fairytale books, so when I saw this one, I picked it up to leaf through its pages.

To my great astonishment I knew every story.  I could trace every single illustration by heart.  As I held the book, I began to remember the beloved fairytale book I'd had as a child.  I had literally worn it's pages into nothingness.

The wonderful thing about this book is I can see from the illustrations how my own style as an artist was forged.  I loved each and every one of those pictures and their beauty imprinted itself upon my mind, even before I could read the stories themselves.  It was as though I journeyed back in time for a moment and saw my world through a child's eyes once more.

Happy Pink Saturday!

Meadowland

This gorgeous postcard by Sulamith Wulfing only recently became a part of my "cyber" collection. I have a weakness for fairies and all things whimsical, so this wonderful drawing with it's beautiful colors and unique style especially caught my imagination.

Thank you, sweet SissyDea!

Fairy Bread -Postcard Friendship Friday

I know this isn't a postcard. Instead I hope you will enjoy this lovely poem with accompanying illustrations from my beloved, but tattered ancient book of Children's verse.

Come up here, O dusty feet!
Here is fairy bread to eat.

Here in my retiring room,
Children you may dine
On the golden smell of broom
And the shade of pine;
And when you have eaten well,
Fairy stories hear and tell.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
