A Joyous New Year to You! -Postcard Friendship Friday #389

Hello, sweet Friends.  I love this postcard.  It is from my cyber collection and does not have a back I can upload for you.

I sometimes have dreams where I am flying above the trees, winging my way through the air with the birds.  This postcard reminds me of those wonderful moments.  I think that is the way it will be in heaven--I am SURE we will be able to fly just like this.

It is 2018 now--I am looking forward to the adventure ahead--both with anticipation and joy and a little dread.  The uncertainty of our world is a burden upon my heart at times--yet I trust God with the unknown future of this beautiful place He made.

Blessings and joy to you this New Year, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Happy New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #388

Last year I was alone New Year's Eve.  I opened the front door and stood on the front porch waving Fourth of July sparklers.

Toez the Polydactyl Cat did NOT appreciate all of the Hullabaloo and hid under the blanket on the sofa.  As for me, I enjoyed the neighborhood pandemonium.  This year there will be a party here!  I'm excited.  It is the first time since my Beloved flew away to heaven.

I don't know what this New Year will hold, but I pray I will be a blessing to many in what God has called me to do.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and Happy New Year, dear Friends!  Look Up, for God is watching over us with His great love and kindness.

Heureuse Annee! -Postcard Friendship Friday #340

It is very cold for our part of the country.  We are usually in the mid-thirties and forties.  Today it is 17 outside, with a high of 27!  We are NOT used to this kind of weather here in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

My Grandfather told of a time it was so cold he drove a team of horses and a buggy across the Willamette River.  That was around 1900 and he was a teenager.  Ah, boys!  Some things never change.  I do love the snow, but this very cold weather isn't a favorite of mine.

However, there's a big storm coming in tomorrow and Sunday.  They say we are in for a silver thaw.  Grandpa used to call ice storms by that name.  I always loved how it sounded.  I am looking forward to the bad weather--and I pray no one gets hurt trying to get around in the ice.

I hope you are having a wonderful New Year so far, dear Friends.  God bless you and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy New Year! -Postcard Friendship Friday #294

Happy New Year Friends.  Isn't this a beautiful postcard?  I love this lady.  She stands in beauty upon the snow with a dove in her hand.  So perfect for the New Year.  Peace on Earth--it is my prayer for the world this new year.

These past months have been slow.  Without the precious company of my sweet husband, the Love of my life, it was the hardest year of my life.

This coming year will be filled with additional changes and challenges.  But with help and strength from the Lord, I will make it through.  My husband always said our life was an adventure--and it continues to be.

Happy New Year and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!  May God give you the desires of your heart and fill the coming year with His joy and peace.

A Meowy Christmas -Postcard Friendship Friday #290

This Christmas two cats will be sharing the holiday season with me--Snowboots the Gargantuan Kitten and Toez the Polydactyl Cat, my lovely "fur babies."

Boots is only seven months old and is far larger than three-year old Toez.  In fact, this is Boots' very first Christmas.  I had visions of that BooterBoy climbing the Christmas tree, knocking it over, pulling things off...well, I put the Christmas tree up this morning (we'll be decorating it tomorrow), and though he is quite interested--he hasn't tried to climb it...yet!

Have a lovely weekend, dear Friends.  Merry Christmas and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Glad New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #252

Years ago, my darling Grammie gave me this wonderful postcard.  Today as I read the beautiful poem on the front, it feels like her special blessing over my life.  Especially in light of my grief over the recent loss of my husband.

Above is the note Grammie wrote.  I treasure this beautiful old postcard and the words she used--especially "love you."  My Grandmother was one of my best friends and I still miss her so much.

When Grandpa was a young man, Millie was one of his good buddies.  I wish I could have known her.  Grammie and Grandpa loved her very much.  She died  young and they treasured her things.  So when Grammie sent this postcard to me--I knew right away what a privilege it was for her to send me this precious bit of their lives.

As days unfold like
Opening Flowers
Throughout the
Coming year,
May each one bring its
Golden hours,
And some joy fair and dear.

Happy New Year, dear Friends--and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy New Year!

This is such an unusual card.  I'm not sure how old this vintage piece is, but the detail of the drawing is spectacular.

I had heard the name of Simon the Just, but didn't know much about him until I looked him up.  He must have been an amazing fellow.  From what I read, he is mentioned in the Talmud, Josephus and the Second Book of Maccabees.

It is said Simon earned his name "the Just" because of the piety of his life, his benevolence toward his compatriots, and because he watched over the welfare of his people.  He was a spiritual man who longed to see his country prosper.  He is said to have rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, which had been torn down, and is responsible for repairing the great Temple of the Jews.

According to legend, when Alexander the Great marched through Palestine in the year 333, Simon the Just dressed in priestly robes to ride out to greet him.  When the Monarch saw the High Priest approaching, he descended from his chariot and bowed respectfully before him.

The Greek king was criticized because he had bowed to Simon the Just.  But Alexander the Great silenced the complaints of his subjects, saying his act of respect had been intentional.  Then he told of a vivid vision in which he had witnessed the High Priest proclaiming Alexander's victory over his enemies.

I love the stories of history.

Happy New Year, everyone!

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #197

The kitten with the pink ribbon on the left reminds me of our special friend Toez the Polydactyl Cat when she was a kitten.  I've always welcomed cats as friends.  There's something special about their independence, capricious playfulness, mischievous personality which pulls at one's heart strings.

When Toez (otherwise known as little tiny keekat) deigns to come and sit upon my lap, all on her own--it just melts my heart.

I'm hoping for SNOW tonight.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

New Year's Greetings -Guest Heart Thursday

I looked and looked for another New Year's Day postcard with a heart--I finally found this one.  It is a wonderful vintage postcard from the early 1900's.  But something about that snowman hit my funny bone.   The winter scene is idyllic, but that snowman seems to be lurking lurking--and from the look on his face he's up to no good.  I have a feeling he wants to whack 'em good with that four leaf clover!!! At any rate, they'd have a great snowball fight.

Happy New  Year everyone.

New Year's Dawning -Guest Heart Thursday

I have a lovely little pin from when I was younger, there's a tiny babe cradled in the folds of a leaf.  I have always loved it--This lovely postcard reminds me of that sweet little pin.

I pray you new year will be blessed with  grace, strength, joy and peace.

A Happy New Year!

I just love this unusual old postcard--I have never come across any pictures of Father Time as balding before this.  He usually has a long flowing white beard.  Having a follicaly-challenged Father, gave me a love for men with, er, sparse hair.  Take Jean-Luke Picard, of the television series Star Trek, Next Generation, for example.  What a good looking fellow!

I love the way the angel is sneaking up behind poor Father Time.  I think that angel scared the poor fellow, don't you?  He seems surprised enough to have dropped the hour glass he was holding.  Perhaps for a moment, time stopped?

Happy New Year, sweet Friends.  There is joy to be found in every little thing.

Happy New Years! This is Me at Three

In my collection, are these goofy animal postcards I picked up when I was in my 20's. This one hits my funny bone, because I believe it looks as I must have, as we pulled into the driveway around three this morning! I am NOT a night person! We hallooed in the new year over at our friend's shop, after which we watched a western called Bite the Bullet. Great movie! Just went a little late...hence my befrazzlement. (grin)

This is a baby black crowned night heron. Isn't this baby just ghoulish looking?!

Happy New Year!

A Glad New Year

I was routing around in the attic day before yesterday, going through old papers and whatnot, when I found a precious letter from my beloved Grammie. She has been gone a few years now, and I miss her so. Imagine my joy at finding an entire bundle of notes and cards from her!
.
I was astonished when I opened the envelope to find this wonderful postcard and accompanying note she'd sent to me in the early 1980's. It was like a big hug from my darling little Grammie. You may not be able to tell from this scanned copy, but the poem is printed on some kind of lovely satin material which has been pressed into an embossed imprint on the postcard.
.
The card originally belonged to my grandfather's young cousin Milly. They were very close, and my Grandpa loved her. She died under tragic circumstances many many years ago. I am honored that my sweet Grandmother would give me such a wonderful treasure. What joy to find it years later at this moment.
.
As days unfold like opening flowers,
Throughout the coming year,
May each one bring its golden hours,
And joy fair and dear.
