No More Wasted Time

A few nights ago, I was listening to a program called Decades. They were talking about the life of the late David Cassidy. His sweet daughter said this man's last words were, "So much wasted time."

That hit me hard. I don't want to be wasting my time here on earth--I would be devastated to look back and realize how much time I let slip through my fingers.

So...the next morning I found the Christmas lights I'd meant to put up for the holidays--and strung them around the front porch. It sounds silly--but somehow it made sense to accomplish that goal--even if I was a day or so late. Those lights will be shining all year round, by the way. (grin)

Then I put a sweeper flap on the front door.  Something I've never done before, but which had needed to be done a long time ago.  I had a curious sense of fulfillment.

I see this newest heart shift is going to change things in my life.

 No more wasted time.

A Happy New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #388

Last year I was alone New Year's Eve.  I opened the front door and stood on the front porch waving Fourth of July sparklers.

Toez the Polydactyl Cat did NOT appreciate all of the Hullabaloo and hid under the blanket on the sofa.  As for me, I enjoyed the neighborhood pandemonium.  This year there will be a party here!  I'm excited.  It is the first time since my Beloved flew away to heaven.

I don't know what this New Year will hold, but I pray I will be a blessing to many in what God has called me to do.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and Happy New Year, dear Friends!  Look Up, for God is watching over us with His great love and kindness.

Christmas Memories

I just had a Christmas memory flash.  In past years, my family and I would often end up traveling home from performances we'd done during the holidays.

Driving over the snowy mountains at Christmas time, Alan would pull over and the kids and I would tie treats we'd made for the animals onto the fir trees.  The treats consisted of pine cones rolled in peanut butter and seeds.

Such laughter and fun. There were snowball fights and, as I recall, hot chocolate from a thermos when we were done. What a lovely memory that is. I miss those long ago adventures.

Merry Christmas, dear Friend!

Song of the Morning -Postcard Friendship Friday #387

This beautiful Christmas postcard touches something whimsical in my soul.  This lovely maiden, floating through a meadow of flowers with her harp is so different than most Victorian Christmas postcards.

The title, Song of the Morning is a fitting title for this beautiful young woman in a spring meadow...at Christmas.

Thank you for dropping by.   Merry Christmas, sweet Friends.  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Round John Virgin -Postcard Friendship Friday #386

This wonderful vintage postcard brings back so many memories of the old nativity set I loved as a child, which still graces the home of my sweet Mumsie.

In our growing up years, each Christmas Mom would write a play.  Christmas Eve, I and my five siblings would perform for neighbors, friends and family.  As a part of the drama we would sing Silent Night.  It was our favorite Christmas song.

Then one late evening, our youngest brother, who was around four years old, asked Mom, "Who is Round John Virgin?"  Which, of course, sent us into transports of laughter.

Since that long ago Christmas day, a little round tin man, who goes by the name of Round John Virgin, sits next to Joseph, Mary and the Christ Child.  I still giggle a bit over that wonderful old memory.

Thank you for dropping by and taking a moment to walk with me down memory lane.  Merry Christmas, dear ones.  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Peaceful Christmas

This young red headed girl must be an angel.  I can't imagine sitting in the snow clad only in a sheet without having some kind of supernatural warmth and protection!  She does have a halo and appears to be decorating an outdoor Christmas tree.

I love the grace and style of the artwork of the late 1800's and 1900's.  This beautifully appointed postcard is no exception.

Have a lovely week, my Friends!  A peaceful and beautiful Christmas to you!

Spilled Apples -Postcard Friendship Friday #384

I grew up in the country next to my grandparents who had an orchard of apple trees, cherry trees, pear trees, golden plum and purple prune trees.  Many of those vintage trees are still thriving to this day--and their fruit is unparalleled.  As a girl, my favorite in Fall was the winter apple tree.

Winter apples were ripe by early October and when polished were a beautiful dark red like those pictured in this postcard.

This lovely illustration of spilled apples takes me back to the carefree days of childhood.  I remember climbing to the uppermost crown of the tree, where the branches formed a perfect place to sit.  I would read my favorite book and crunch away on those wonderful winter apples.   I can still taste their sweet flavor.

My Grandmother once described how those hardy apples were stored for winter when she was a girl. The apples were kept in a cool room in barrels where they were nestled between layers of sawdust. She said this was an effective way to keep the fruit from spoiling--she and her family ate crunchy winter apples clear through February and sometimes even later than that.

Thank you for dropping by and taking a moment to walk with me down memory lane.  Merry Christmas, dear ones.  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Busy Hands, Happy Heart -Postcard Friendship Friday #383

We had the best Thanksgiving ever.  Singing, playing instruments, laughter, good food and family time.  It was a true delight. Haha--and I saw my sweet Mumsie dance for the first time in my life!!! LOL She is so cute. This Thanksgiving was a memory maker--one I will treasure for all time!  There are some moments I wish could last forever...that is the way I felt yesterday.

We missed my sweet husband.  He would have been so happy.  But I know he was with us in Spirit.

I am thankful for so many things--including you, dear ones.  Have a great weekend Friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

First Thanksgiving Dinner Party -Postcard Friendship Friday #382

I laughed out loud when I saw this vintage postcard's depiction of the First Thanksgiving.  The humor is delightful.  I am sure the English people who came to America had many cultural differences with the Native Americans they found living here.  And yet, at that time they all got along.  Indeed a native American by the name of Squanto came to help them.  Miraculously he knew English and gave the people of the Mayflower needed advice and help to make it through the following winter months.  It is a miraculous, beautiful story.  One worth researching!

It is hard to believe Thanksgiving is next week.  I don't know where the time flew to.  Have a lovely weekend, Happy Thanksgiving and a lovely Postcard Friendship Friday!

One Flag, One Land -Postcard Friendship Friday #381

Today is Veteran's Day in the United States.  The soldiers in this vintage postcard have various uniforms, which I believe represent different eras of time.

My Family has records of young men fighting for what they believe in, clear down through the Civil War, and before that.  It is an honor to know about these brave soldiers.

Please take time to honor those who have fought for your liberty and freedom today.  Blessings to everyone and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Peace and Prosperity -Postcard Friendship Friday #380

This beautiful Thanksgiving postcard echoes my thoughts and hopes for our world.  That all people would experience peace and prosperity.  I would add to that joy and love--and the touch of God's hand.

There is SO much for which to be thankful!  Have a great weekend, dear Friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Merry Hallowe'en

Tonight all the children will be dressed in their costumes and full of merry laughter.  I look forward to their shenanigans.  "Trick, or Treat," they will say.  I will reply, "Do a trick, and I'll give you a treat!

It's Hallowe'en when little boys
Are frightened by the slightest noise,
And little girls run off to bed
And climb in quick, and hide their head.

Have a Merry Hallowe'en all you wonderful people!  Please stay safe out there, dear ones.

I Will Always Miss You

Just about now, three years ago, my Beloved Husband was being rushed to the hospital by ambulance.  Today is a difficult day.  Strange how life can change in an instant.  Strange.  Sometimes I still can't believe he is gone.

I am grateful to God for bringing Alan in to my life and for the wonderful adventure we had together...  I am so thankful for the lovely children he gave to me and for the love we shared.  I will always miss him.

You Ought to See the Other Fellow! -Postcard Friendship Friday #379

I loved the face of this little fellow so much, I had to post it.  The artist did an incredible job catching the plucky nature of this funny cat. I would like to find more of this artist's work.

Have a great weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Afraid of His Own Shadow -Postcard Friendship Friday #378

When I was a child, we lived on the edge of a vast forest.  The woods became our playground.  Especially one huge old fir tree next to our home.  We played under it so often the ground became as hard as a floor.  It was our outdoor playroom.

When Halloween came around we would decorate underneath that tree.  We would sweep the "floor" and hang little hand-made ghosts in the tree branches.   We created scary exhibits of goblins and frightening creatures using whatever we had around the house.  It was all great fun...until the sun went down.

Then we were so scared, we wouldn't dare venture out to see our creations, even using candles.  We were, haha, afraid of our own shadows.

Have a great weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Merry Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #377

I adore black cats.  It is sad people sometimes mistreat them this time of year.

When he was a boy, my Father enjoyed the company of a black cat he named Snow.  This became a tradition in our family.  When I was a girl, we had sweet friendship of our own little Snow--she was a gentle spirited, long-haired, black kitty with a tiny bit of white on her chest.

Our most recent furry friend Snowbunny is in heaven now.  She often thought of herself as Mom Number two to my children.  I still miss her.  Someday soon I hope to make the acquaintance of another wee black kitten, who, of course will be called "Snow."

'Tis the time of harvest, and though the rains are well begun, the trees are turning yellow and red, and the harvest moon has come and gone.  Fall is here and Halloween is right around the corner.

Have a lovely weekend Friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Fall Winds -Postcard Friendship Friday #376

Hello, sweet Friends.  It has been a long two weeks.  I missed last week--but here is this week's Postcard Friendship Friday.  I hope you enjoy this bit of whimsy.  I love the windswept look of this flower faced maiden.

Fall is peeking from the shadows of the trees.  A chilly wind blows as I gather firewood out back.  The flowers are beginning to feel the cold and the morning sunshine scatters rainbows across the green, green grass.

Have a lovely weekend, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Autumn Sprite -Postcard Friendship Friday #375

Hello, sweet Friends.  I'm a little late getting this one posted.  I apologize for that--it has been a very long weekend.

Fall is here with it's beautiful leaves and nostalgic air.  I am looking forward to blue skies and crisp freezing mornings.

I am NOT, however, looking forward to winter.  Unless it snows--which is rare here.  We usually get a LOT of rain.  However each moment is a gift and I am grateful for the beauty I see each day.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, and have a lovely weekend, dear ones.  God is good.

Dear Little Grandmother -Postcard Friendship Friday #374

Today I celebrate the life of my precious 91-year old Grandma Gladys who has flown to heaven.  She is no longer in pain, she can walk, see and laugh again.  She is in a better place and she was ready to go and see her Beloved Vic--and to see Jesus.  Ah, I miss her.

This postcard looks a lot like Grandma.  What a dear, wonderful lady she was.  One of the first dates my Beloved took me on was to meet Grandma and her family.  She has been a part of my life for almost 35 years.

I see her in my home everywhere.  Pictures she painted, odd pans and cutlery, the beautiful four-poster bed in the guest room, most of the things I have in the craft room...  I think of her every day, and will always think of her every day.

I can hear her laughter, I can see her merry old eyes twinkling at me.  She deeply loved my family--She brought joy into our lives with her wisdom, bubbles, crafts--and I smile as many hilarious memories flood into my mind.  I am going to miss her so much.  I am so grateful to have spent time with Grandma while her daughter was out of town a number of months ago.   What a privilege to hear her stories, share her laughter and tend to her as she slept in her big easy chair.

Take a moment to cherish the people you love, my Friends.  Life is short and each moment is a gift.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear ones.

September Birthdays -Postcard Friendship Friday #373

Though sadness sometimes envelopes my heart, I still love the month of September.  It is a kind of prelude to Fall--and time of harvest.  The birds are busy and the season is changing.

September's stone is the Sapphire.  In ancient times, it was known as the wisdom stone, good for the mind--relieving mention tension, and depression.  It was said to restore balance within the body, and peace of mind.  The ancients also used the Sapphire to treat blood disorders, bleeding and the strengthening of one's heart.  The poem on this postcard reflects those beliefs.

A maiden born when Autumn leaves
Are rustling in September's breeze.
A Sapphire on her brow should bind--
'Twill cure diseases of the mind.

I love Sapphires of all colors, including the Ruby. It is said various colors of this stone treat various things--but I will not go into that here!

Have a lovely weekend dear friends--and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

COMMENDATION:  I wanted to put in an extra note here about Linkytools and its creator Brent.  I have had Linkytools on my blog before it was known as Linkytools!  Brent has always answered every single email I've sent personally and professionally.  He does this even now that Linkytools is one of the most popular of its kind in the world.  I've never seen anything like the personal touch he brings to his business.  I highly recommend Linkytools to every blogger.  :D
