Birds in Spring -Postcard Friendship Friday #507

The Birds in Spring a Congress held,
The Blackbird and the lark,
The Oriole; Thrush and Nightingale
Each made a sage remark.

If Mortals could but understand
The language of the Nest
Quite likely they would often hear,
CLARK'S MILE-END is the Best.

The Clark Thread Company was originally a Scottish firm which specialized in manufacturing embroidery and sewing thread. The company was established in the 1750's by two brothers, James and Patrick Clark. The Clark company was initially based in the Scottish town of Paisley, which at the time was rapidly becoming famous for the production of Kashmir style shawls. The more expensive Kashmir/Paisley shawls were made with silk and wool. As a result of the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) and a French blockade on the exportation of silk to Britain, the Clark company created a method of plying cotton yarns which created a thread similar in appearance and strength to that of the silk formerly used by the Paisley weavers.
The cotton thread was brought onto the market in 1812. In 1817 the Clark company opened a mill dedicated to the production of this type of thread.  A few years later, the firm discovered a method of winding this thread onto small, wooden spools.

In the 1840's, the Clark company started to send commercial agents to the USA. Despite restrictions on the production and sale of cotton due to the American Civil War (1861-1865), Clark's sales in America increased. So much so, that in 1863 the George A. Clark & Brother Company was formed. In 1864 their mill began manufacturing in Newark, New Jersey under the name J. Clark.

In 1896, the Clark Thread company, now with a large base in the USA, joined its interests with a firm in Britain.  One year later, the company merged with fourteen other companies, which led to the creation of the English Sewing Cotton Company, Ltd. Although not officially part of the English Sewing Cotton Company, P. Coats had a strong financial interest in them. By 1952, J Clark & Partners; P. Coats and the Clark Company decided upon a complete merger, which was effectuated in 1954, under the name of Coats & Clark, Inc. Another merger in 1961 led to the creation of Coats Patons, which in 1986, after yet another merger, emerged again as Coats Viyella.

In 2003 the firm was bought by Guinness Peat, which took it back to the market in 2015 as the Coats Group. The name of Coats & Clark is still being used for various types of thread, which can be found in any craft or sewing store in America!

Happy Birthday, My Beloved

I found this adorable painting online.  It perfectly expresses how much I miss my Beloved.  His birthday is today.  He would have been 75 years old.

How I miss him.  Life has gone on..and I have made steps toward healing, but I will always miss him.  He made a tremendous impact in my life.  There are so many things I never would have done, but for him.  Life with him was a great adventure.

It is hard to be alone now...  But God walks, talks, weeps and laughs with me.  He is my good friend and He knows exactly how I feel today.

Please hug your own beloved today--never take one another for granted.  One never knows how much time you'll have together.

Blessing, joy and peace be to you, dear ones.

Fairies Dancing -Postcard Friendship Friday #283

I've always loved this postcard, so I'm re-posting it!  I have been incredibly busy this week--In fact, I've been gone for most of it.  This summer I've been away more than I've been home. I'm so grateful for my trustworthy house sitters!  So much to do and so little time.

I bought this postcard when I was a teenager.  I found it in the attic where I'd kept it safe in a keepsake box.  The delicate colors and whimsical nature of this drawing have always delighted my heart.

As Fall commences, I find myself yearning for Spring and Summer.  There is a long and dark winter ahead without my Beloved.

Years ago, Alan and I went for a walk through a forested park in the center of town.  Behind a big fir tree he "found" a basket.  He gave it to me and said we were going to look for treasure.  (grin)  What I didn't know, until years later, was that my sister and Alan's roommate had placed it there and were hiding behind a tree!

We found all sorts of treasures, even a real lightning bug--the first and only one I've ever seen in the Pacific Northwest.  It was getting dark beneath the trees, when he stopped to kiss me.

Then he broke a long cylinder, which glowed green.  "Close your eyes," he said with a grin.  I did...when I opened them, a castle glowed out of the dark, complete with windows and parapets.

A closer look at the castle revealed a small golden box with my name on the lid.  Inside I found an opal necklace.  It was a beautiful, sweet moment I will never forget.

Such a thoughtful, loving man. The castle was in reality a craggy old stump--but in my heart and memory it was a faery castle, brought to life by a man who clearly loved me.  I still have that little golden box with my name engraved on the top.

Have a great weekend, dear Friends.  May God bless you with wonderful moments with the ones you love.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Birds in Spring -Postcard Friendship Friday #122

I've had a wonderful week, with one of my very best friends in the world coming to visit for a few days. Ah, everyone should have such a darling friend as she is--I'm blessed.  However, a few hours after she headed home, I realized I didn't feel so good.

I hope it is just something I ate.  As it was, I was so miserable last night, I slept in this morning and did not get PFF up until late.  I do apologize and want each of you to know how appreciative I am for your participation and lovely comments.  I look forward to hearing from  you every single week.

Have a lovely day, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Note:  Google seems to be having troubles the past few days.  I haven't been able to comment on your links.  So, I'm taking a moment here to thank everyone who participated in Postcard Friendship Friday this week!  As soon as Google gets the problem fixed, I'll be commenting on your blogs!  Have a lovely weekend.

Birds and Roses -Postcard Friendship Friday #176

We have had so many birds in our yard this year.  There's a flock of Goldfinches, a small red-headed wood pecker, a colorful gross beak, cedar wax wings, a scrub jay, house wrens and another teeny brown bird the size of my thumb.  I have no idea what kind that little fellow might be.  He's shaped like an egg adorned with a beak and miniscule wings.

I hope you are all having a lovely summer.  It has been beautiful here in Oregon.  No rain--lots of sunshine and bearable temperatures.  Almost like living in heaven, when the rain stops!

Have a beautiful day everyone!

Baby Birdies -Guest Heart Thursday

We have had a birdfeeder out on the front porch.  The mama birdies bring the babies to the feeder, eat the food, then feed the little ones.  It is the most darling thing to watch.

If you look closely, you can see hearts in those apple blossom petals!

Have a lovely day!

Angel and the Birdie - Guest Heart Thursday

Grammie recycled things before it was popular to do so.  She would save old Christmas cards to make into tags for Christmas presents.  She always used those scissors with the rick rack edge pattern.  This is one she gave to me on a gift long ago.  I still love it.

And yes, there is a heart in this beautiful Christmas picture.  You can find it in the top of one of the pink roses!

Love Birds - Pink Saturday

I love this beautiful postcard with it's rustic boards and contrasting pink flowers--I think the doves on the stairs are a lovely compliment to the romantic scene unfolding just above.   The birds seem quite interested in all the goings on, don't they?

Sparrows on Snowy Fir

This is another of our beloved Grammie Jenny's cards. She not only loved little children, but she loved birds. Her yards were filled with ponds, bird baths and every kind of flower and seed a bird might want to eat. Her fondness for birds showed the tenderness of her soul.

Christmas Notes

This is a card which was sent to me in the 1970's. I adore this little elf and his appreciative audience.

A Merry Christmas note to you!

Sparrows Bringing Good Cheer

I love the rhythm and pattern of this delightful get well card. The artist caught the beauty and grace of these birds beautifully.

This card is another from the vast collection of Cards our darling Grandma Jenny left behind. What a wonderful legacy for her children, grandchildren and great grand children!

All the Little Birds know

This darling Valentine has moveable parts. The letter pops up out of the snow with the help of the tiny birds. All the love birds know, you have set my heart aglow. What a sweet sentiment.

This card was printed in the United States and was probably published in the 1920's. If anyone has any information about this card, I would love to hear from you!
