Flowers in Her Hair - Happy Postcard Friendship Friday #278

I have posted many photographs of this little girl.  She is said to have been a photographer's daughter.  Photos of this young lady along with other family members can be found everywhere.  Her sweet face has become quite well-known.

She is so lovely.  She reminds me of my own dear niece--their faces are nearly identical.  Perhaps this is why I am so drawn to her.  So, here she is again, with pink tinted flowers in hair and deliciously added detail.  This postcard was sent to me by another collector, to whom I am deeply grateful.

I apologize for missing last week's PFF.  I was out of town and was unable to get to a computer.  Lots of stuff happening right now.  It was so very nice to be missed.

National Lazy Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #276

Did you know August 10th was National Lazy Day?  If I would have know this fact, I would have taken a few moments to be lazy!

When I attempted to find the origins of National Lazy Day, the researchers wrote, "Today there will not be much information regarding this annually celebrated holiday as we do not feel like doing any research."  Of course, this made me laugh. I hope the comment brings a grin to your face, too.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Mothers, Daughters and Sisters -Guest Heart Thursday

I've always loved photographs of this little girl.  From what I can gather, her Father was a photographer who loved to take pictures of his family.  At first I thought this photo was of the girl and her Mother.  As I looked closer--it seems, rather, that the young lady is her sister!  I also discovered a photo of her real Mother.

In light of my discovery, I changed the title and labels for this blog entry.

Perhaps the first postcard is of the dress the young lady wore for her "coming out."  There seems to be a story being told here--maybe of the younger girl admiring her sibling and thinking about what it will be like when SHE gets to wear a beautiful dress such as her sister does.  It's also perfect for the upcoming National  Siblings Day!  I love the way this girl's dress twirls and of course, there's a heart to be found.  I enhanced the one in her hair so you can see it a little better!

Waiting for DaDa - Postcard Friendship Friday #113

I was intrigued by the caption for this lovely postcard. "Waiting for DaDa."  I wonder what the story is behind this photo.  Both are obviously waiting for the most important person in their lives.  I adore the Mom's pink ruffles and those delicate roses are gorgeous beyond compare.

Mother's Day celebrations in America seem to have begun with Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis, a young Appalachian homemaker.

During the Civil War, Ann organized women to work for better sanitary conditions for both sides.  After the war, when most women devoted their time solely on their family and homes, this spunky lady worked to assist in the healing of a nation.   In 1858, Ann was inspired to start Mother's Friendship Day -- a day for war-torn Americans from both sides to celebrate their mothers and love for their families.

In 1868, to further encourage reconciliation between Union and Confederate neighbors and families, she created Mother's Friendship Clubs where she taught women the basics of nursing and sanitation.  As families and communities healed and knitted back together, thousands of lives were saved through the spread of this life-saving knowledge.  I would have loved to have met this brave, wise, peace-loving woman.

I love spring and Mother's Day.  I get to put Mother's day cards up all month long!  Have a delightful day, my Friends.

Little Darling -Postcard Friendship Friday!

Here again is the face of the Little French Girl. Her likeness is found in many postcards around the turn of the century. She has the face of an angel.

If anyone out there has information on who she was, I would love to know.

Happy Postcard Friendship  Friday!
