Happy Birthday Little Sister! -Postcard Friendship Friday #417

I remember the day my youngest sister came home.  She was so tiny with a head of dark hair, deep blue eyes and eyelashes so long they touched her perfectly drawn brows.  What a beautiful baby!  However, I was fourteen years old and as a teen, a newborn wasn't that interesting to me.

Yet,  as she grew we became very good friends.  I wrote songs about her, played with her, teased her and loved her.

She has a whimsical nature much like my own.  Today she turns 46 years old.  It is hard to believe so many years have passed since the day my parents brought home that sweet little girl.  I am grateful to the Lord for my sister.  She is one of my best buddies and is such a blessing in my life!

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Be Glad! -Postcard Friendship Friday #324

I am reposting a postcard from 2009.  It is one of my favorites.  I received this postcard when I was a teenager in the 1970's. I love the little girl and the artist's style is so exquisitely sweet.  I adore the dandelions growing at her feet--I still pick those puffs of dandys and blow them into the wind.  I suppose the child in me still loves how they float and dance.

Though sorrow crashes into my soul this morning, today is a day to be glad in the Lord and rejoice! How grateful I am that He walks with me on this unexpected journey.

I hope this coming weekend is beautiful for you.  Blessings to each of you dear ones.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Daisy Girl -Postcard Friendship Friday #316

One can find this little girl on multitudes of postcards which came out in the early 1900's. I have not been able to discover her name, or when the photo for the postcard was taken. She is such an adorable child. I have loved these wonderful postcards for years.  Oddly enough, my sweet niece could be her sister!  Children are such a beautiful and joyful part of life.

I was so intrigued by this particular postcard that I endeavored to draw her. Of course, my drawing doesn't do justice to the beauty and innocence of this lovely child.

God bless you, sweet Friends and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Easter Greetings -Postcard Friendship Friday #305

I posted this one years ago--I still find it to be quite strange!  That little girl doesn't seem to be too happy with the giant chick pulling at her pinafore.  I fact, it looks like she's asking for help! Such an odd Easter greeting.  I wonder what the artist was thinking.

I hope you have a lovely week--full of sunshine and Easter promise.  Blessings and hope to all of you dear ones.

A Joyous Easter Greeting to you and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

With Love - Postcard Friendship Friday #298

I am a bit late this week.  Thank you for your patience.

I found this beautiful Valentine's Day postcard online many years ago. I love the sweet look of the puppy in the little girl's arms. She has the fondest look in her eyes and I adore that pretty red cape.

I hope you all had a wonderful week, dear Friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Flowers in Her Hair - Happy Postcard Friendship Friday #278

I have posted many photographs of this little girl.  She is said to have been a photographer's daughter.  Photos of this young lady along with other family members can be found everywhere.  Her sweet face has become quite well-known.

She is so lovely.  She reminds me of my own dear niece--their faces are nearly identical.  Perhaps this is why I am so drawn to her.  So, here she is again, with pink tinted flowers in hair and deliciously added detail.  This postcard was sent to me by another collector, to whom I am deeply grateful.

I apologize for missing last week's PFF.  I was out of town and was unable to get to a computer.  Lots of stuff happening right now.  It was so very nice to be missed.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and I hope you have a lovely weekend, dear Friends!

This Heart's For You! -Guest Heart Thursday

It looks like she is saying "this heart is for you."  I love these old photos.   I have seen this girl and another French girl, in many photos taken around this same timeline.  There's something so sweet about them--and I love the feel and style of the photography.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

My Heart's Best Gift -Guest Heart Thursday

As the cleanup from our Chimney fire continues, I often pause to give thanks.  I thank God for His protection.  Things could have been so much worse.

I get emotional thinking about all the people who have helped us, prayed for us.  I am so thankful to those who support us and love us, despite our many flaws and faults.

My heart's best gift is that of love and thanksgiving.  I am especially grateful to my dear friends who have been such an encouragement over these past few weeks.  You know who you are.  ((hugs))

Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

My Heart is in Ireland -Guest Heart Thursday

I have always loved Ireland.  My Father's ancestors hailed from that fair green land.  I love Irish music--there's something about it which pulls at my soul.

When I was a little girl--and even now, I would dance a little dance all on my own.  It wasn't until years later, watching River Dance, that I realized what I was doing was a version of an ancient Irish dance.

Some things are inborn in one's heart and soul, I think.  My heart is in Ireland!

Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

A Loving Thought -Guest Heart Thursday

This wonderful postcard was used as a Valentine's Day Card.  It says, "To my fat little Valentine, from Big Fat Grandmar Hamilton."  That made me laugh.  I hope it makes you smile too.  Have a lovely day everyone!

I have a chance to win a small original painting of my own dear Polydactyl Cat by one of my all-time favorite artists.  If you'd like to vote for Toez, visit Sandrine's Gallery.  Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Upside Down - Pink Saturday

This is a Get Well Card from a set of wonderful cards given to me by my beloved Sister Clytie.  I adore these babies--and this Upside Down girl is especially cute.  I thought her perfect for Pink Saturday!

The Sun's Travel

The sun is not a-bed, when I
At night upon my pillow lie;
Still around the earth his way he takes
And morning after morning makes.

While here at home, in shining day,
We round the sunny garden play,
Each little Indian sleepy-head
Is being kissed and put to bed.

Here is another old poem, and illustration from my beloved, yet tattered book of Children's Verse, which was published around the turn of the century.

Top Knot - Happy Postcard Friendship Friday

Here she is again. With this wonderful up-do, and added detail, this little girl's mischievious smile makes me think as soon as the camera shutter clicked, All that hair came tumbling down.

Daddy Update: The plastic surgeon and consultants have determined skin grafts will not be applied until Dad's broken neck is healed. Dad will be wearing a neck brace for five more months. The surgeons are sure the exposed bone on top of his head will not heal over by itself. Since the wound vac has been removed, Mom and I have been changing the dressings each day. It seems to us that his head is starting to heal. I would appreciate your prayers for the broken bones in his neck to heal, and for exposed bone to grow new skin overtop. Nothing is impossible with God. Miracles happen every day! Thank you!

Sweet - Happy Postcard Friendship Friday

This postcard, dated 1914, is part of a my "cyber" collection. It was sent to me by Pearl, a generous soul who shares my love for this little girl's photos. These postcards were printed around the turn of the century by Raphael Tuck & Sons.

Raphael Tuck & Sons was located in England and was an outstanding publisher of early postcards. Nov. 1899 Adolph Tuck began his postcard production with first numbered series issued July, 1900. Much of the early printing was done in Germany by Chromolithography using 10 or 12 stones. Embossed & hand cut dies.

The company took special pride in being Art Publishers to British Royalty and many series show this connection to WWII. Paper shortages nearly closed the plant but they finally got paper rations and continued to produce cards. The London factory was destroyed by German bombs and the New factory in North Hampton burned in 1954.

Now to see if I can find more information on this lovely young model. The photo was called "Sweet."

DADDY UPDATE: Dad did very well yesterday and last night. Thank you so much for your good thoughts and powerful prayers. It is amazing to see how well he's doing!

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Blue Daisies in her Hair -Postcard Friendship Friday

Here she is again--the little French Girl. I have made some inquiries, and so far, no luck on finding out who she was.

I have, however, discovered there are a lot of other people who are as intrigued with her, as I am. I found one woman who wants to write a book about the lives of these unknown Edwardian Children. Especially those children who came from Paris. But so far her efforts to discover who they were have been unsuccessful. Some people believe she was the daughter of a photographer, who's negatives and originals were destroyed during the bombings of WW2.

So, if anyone out there knows anything about this lovely young lady from Paris I would love to hear from you.

Happy Postcard Friendship  Friday!

Little Princess

Here is another postcard of the intriguing little French girl. Recently Jann posted two more photos she recognized as being the same small girl I have wondered about. This is my favorite of the two. (Thank you Jann!)
.
There are so many of these postcards, all of the same little girl, in various poses. She has such a unique face, such a delightful, whimsical way about her. I continue to wonder who she was. If anyone out there knows, I'd love to hear from you!

Vintage Summer Beauty

Here is another postcard from my "cyber collection." A friend who knows I love photos of this little French girl, sent it my way.

Here you see she's a little more grown up. Her face is maturing, and her hair is done up, denoting young womanhood. I wonder what happened to her. I wonder about her life. I wonder who she was.

She reminds me of someone.

From a Trainway Carriage

Faster than fairies, faster than witches
Barns and houses, hedges and ditches;
Charging along like troops in a battle
On through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.

I found this lineart picture an ancient book of illustrated children's poetry. I especially love this picture because it reminds me of my own children and some of the pictures I drew of them when they were tiny.

Hello, Cookie!

This delightful card was printed in the USA, and was probably published in the late 1940's. I love the saucy, coy look she gives as she glances over her shoulder--and I adore the bottles of "sugar" and "spice," on the wall.

The question is what is she going to do with that rolling pin? Hit him? Or kiss him instead!!! (grin)
