International Cat Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #419

Yes, this week, on August eighth, Cats were celebrated across the world.  According to statistics, cats are the most popular pet on earth--there are an estimated 500 million felines frolicking in homes everywhere.  So it isn't surprising that there are several holidays celebrating our feisty, furry little friends.

International Cat Day was celebrated for the fist time in 2002 by IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, among other animal rights groups.

A human loved by a cat has been shown to improve mental health and to relieve stress, anxiety and depression. I can attest to that personally.  Toez the Polydactyl Cat has often been a lifesaver--laughter on a dark day.

I hope you took time, if you are, er, owned by a cat, to roll out the red carpet!   Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Basket Full of Kittens

I have found quite a few postcards by this particular artist.  I'm not sure who the artist is, but I adore this style. If any of you know who did these pieces, I would LOVE to know.

I have found a goodly number of postcards in this style and consider myself blessed.

Have a beautiful rest of the week!

A Happy New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #388

Last year I was alone New Year's Eve.  I opened the front door and stood on the front porch waving Fourth of July sparklers.

Toez the Polydactyl Cat did NOT appreciate all of the Hullabaloo and hid under the blanket on the sofa.  As for me, I enjoyed the neighborhood pandemonium.  This year there will be a party here!  I'm excited.  It is the first time since my Beloved flew away to heaven.

I don't know what this New Year will hold, but I pray I will be a blessing to many in what God has called me to do.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and Happy New Year, dear Friends!  Look Up, for God is watching over us with His great love and kindness.

What IS that in the Cat's Dish? -Postcard Friendship Friday #321

Due to the busy state of my life right now, I'm re-posting this funny postcard about cats.

I bought this postcard many years ago. It is a reproduction of an antique postcard, printed on 100% recycled paper, in the USA by the Evergreen Press in Walnut Creek, California.

I adore the rich colors, and the soft texture of fur and rug. The detail on the cat dish is beautiful. But yesterday, as I slipped my collection of postcards and cards into binders for safekeeping, I happened to look a little closer.

I did a double take. I suddenly wasn't sure if the one cat was exactly pleased with the other one.

And I have a question. What on earth IS that in the cat dish??? Anyone have any ideas?  It looks like a bug to me....Have a lovely weekend dear friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Meowy Christmas -Postcard Friendship Friday #290

This Christmas two cats will be sharing the holiday season with me--Snowboots the Gargantuan Kitten and Toez the Polydactyl Cat, my lovely "fur babies."

Boots is only seven months old and is far larger than three-year old Toez.  In fact, this is Boots' very first Christmas.  I had visions of that BooterBoy climbing the Christmas tree, knocking it over, pulling things off...well, I put the Christmas tree up this morning (we'll be decorating it tomorrow), and though he is quite interested--he hasn't tried to climb it...yet!

Have a lovely weekend, dear Friends.  Merry Christmas and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Christmas Greetings!? -Postcard Friendship Friday #249

Good morning, I'm so sorry to be late putting up Postcard Friendship Friday.  It has been pretty hectic this morning--with everything which I must do before the end of the year.  (sigh)  Thank you for your prayers, friends.

This postcard hit my funny bone. The only one who looks normal is the little girl. The pop up guy is kind of scary looking and that doll's eyes seem rather demented. It looks like those kittens are not too sure about the whole business. Especially the kitten peeking around from the side.  Isn't that just a hoot?

May God bless you, and Merry Christmas!

World Cat Day

A friend of mine pointed out that I missed World Cat Day, which was Friday.  So--in honor of this holiday, I am posting this darling card with its soft eyed kittens.

Have a lovely day, and Happy World Cat Day!

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year -Postcard Friendship Friday #197

The kitten with the pink ribbon on the left reminds me of our special friend Toez the Polydactyl Cat when she was a kitten.  I've always welcomed cats as friends.  There's something special about their independence, capricious playfulness, mischievous personality which pulls at one's heart strings.

When Toez (otherwise known as little tiny keekat) deigns to come and sit upon my lap, all on her own--it just melts my heart.

I'm hoping for SNOW tonight.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Springtime Pussy Willows

I've always loved pussy willows.  When I was a little girl, I pretended they were tiny kittens.  Their little beds were made of walnut shell halves.  I would put them to bed between flower petals.  I made tiny houses of twigs for them.  In my child's eyes, they would purr and snuggle in my fingers. Sometimes they still do.

A Friendly Greeting - Sunday Scans

Here is another wonderful bit of ephemera from Grammie's collection.  This beautiful card was from Grammie's best Friend, Ruth.  Their Friendship is a sweet legacy.  We are all blessed by their loving relationship.

Al's Photography Blog, by our good friend Al, hosts "Sunday Scans" each week.  I have so enjoyed this meme!  Sunday Scans is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

To Greet You at Easter - Pink Saturday

Yes, there IS pink in this cute postcard!  I laughed with the teeny bunnies over these chicks' consternation at the hatching of furry black kittens from that egg.  I believe the one little kitten might be thinkin' dinner.

It was such a cheery postcard, I just had to share it!  Happy Pink Saturday to all.  For more wonderful things in pink, visit Beverly at  How Sweet The Sound!

With Best New Year Wishes - Postcard Friendship Friday #44

I thought these three little kittens would be a dandy way to start off a fabulously "Crunchy" New Year!

The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon around 4000 years ago. In 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).  The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming.

The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year's Eve festivities pale in comparison.

The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. However the royal calendar tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. This again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

Imagine that!  Happy New Year Everyone!

Two Kittens and a Hat

Here is another wonderful card from our Grammie's collection.  Kittens are so dear--these two furry darlings kind of remind me of our "ghost" kitty hiding upstairs.  We still have not seen her, though there is evidence she's been out and about in the night.  (sigh)

It is SO hard to wait!  But, oh, happy thought, maybe she'll come out today!

Those Who Bring Sunshine...

This is another of Grandma Jenny's cards. This lovely card was from Grammie's best friend Ruth. They had a wonderful loving relationship which I'm sure transcends time itself! I love the little kittens. They so delightfully Roley poly! Another odd thing--I have an ink bottle which looks exactly like the one in the card.

Cannot keep it from themselves.

Kittens in a Basket

There was a series of these cards--several of which I found in Grammie's collection. As I recall she didn't particularly like cats, but she did love these pictures of mischievous little kittens. They are darling, aren't they?

Christmas Kittens in a Basket

Merry Christmas! I love this time of year. There is something so joyous and perky about red and green decorations, the lights and music. Here is another of the wonderful cards from our sweet Grandma Jenny's fabulous collection!

Sweet Grammie flew away to heaven awhile back. Sharing the cards she loves brings her close to my heart.
