Love to Father -Postcard Friendship Friday #457

Father's Day is in June.  I was blessed to have a wonderful Daddy who loved me and my siblings with all his heart.  He flew away to heaven almost seven years ago.  I still miss Dad.

Dad taught us about unconditional love--it didn't matter what awful thing we might have done--his love was always there.  Because of Daddy, I understand the heart of God the Father.  He is tender and loving--but firm and strong, just like my own precious Father.

"As a father is kind to his children, so the LORD is kind to those who honor him."  ~Psalm 103:13  I am grateful to the Lord for dear Dad--who by his example taught us who God is.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends--and Happy Father's Day!

Happy Birthday, Mumsie!

Happy Birthday to my sweet Mom--she is 80 years old today!  Her life has been an amazing adventure--I love her stories and I'm SO grateful God made me a part of her story.

Dear, sweet Mumsie--I don't know what I would do without her. We are only 19 years apart in age.  After I became an adult, she and I were often mistaken for sisters--I always found that to be charming.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMS!
I love you SO much.

Purple Emperor Fairy -Postcard Friendship Friday #456

The fairy in this ad features the beauty of the Purple Emperor, which is the second largest butterfly in central Europe.  The deep purple-blue shine on the wings of the male can only be seen from various angles and in bright light.  The color shows up when  light is refracted by ridges on the insect's wing scales.

Poulain is Fench for foal.  Though the icon of the brand is usually a jumping foal, in this advertisement, they've used a whimsical little fairy.

This company has been around for a LONG time.  Chocolat Poulain is one of the oldest chocolate brands in France.  They are famous for their chocolate bars, both for eating and cooking.  They also make a lovely chocolate drink mix called Poulain Orange product.

It all began as the dream of Victor-Auguste Poulain, who began the mass production of chocolate in 1848 in Blois, France.  In 1893, he established Chocolat Poulain as a company.

In the mid-1800's, chocolate was considered to be the food of kings.  Ahead of his time, Victor believed chocolate should be available to everyone.  His company was innovative in industrializing the production of chocolate and in their widespread marketing campaigns targeting children and families.

In more modern history--Chocolat Poulain was the sponsor of the mountains classification in the 1975 Tour de France, when its distinctive polka dot jersey was introduced; the jersey's design was based on the candy's polka dotted wrapper.  The company was bought by Cadbury Sweppes in 1988.  It was sold to Kraft Food in 2010 and since 2012 belongs to Mondelez International.

Thank you for dropping by, dear Friends!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

I wish everyone could be gifted with an amazing Mother.  Sadly that often isn't the case.  I love sharing Mumsie with all my Friends--she has a BIG heart and has many "adopted" sons and daughters.

Years ago I worked as a nurse's aide in a care home for the elderly.  I met so many amazing women there...  I often think of them and am grateful for them.  Those dear ones changed my life...

They are numbered among those I call Mom.

Sweet blessings to you, dear ones.  I hope this day is a lovely one for you.  May God bless you with joy, peace and hope.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day Weekend! -Postcard Friendship Friday #455

I found this darling postcard online.  I couldn't resist posting it--such a whimsical idea.  Can you imagine what a soft and fragrant place a rose would be for a nap?  One might hope, however, that the baby wouldn't roll out--but perhaps the little fellow has wings?

I am blessed with a Mother who loved to tell us about the wee peoples of the forest.  The faeries she introduced to us and their amazing adventures, still live on in my mind.

Mumsie will be 80 years old next weekend.  She loves to work in her garden and still tells wonderful stories.  It is hard to believe she's going to be that old--she looks like she's in her late 60's.  She is beautiful and amazing--she has led an extraordinary life.

Happy Mother's Day dear ones--I pray this weekend is a special one!

Happy Birthday Sissy!

As the eldest of six, I'm sure I gave my sweet younger Sis plenty of grief.  I was the oldest and I thought I knew a thing or two.  But she found ways of getting around her big sister.

Saturday mornings we were allowed to watch cartoons.  My brother and I would be watching cartoons.  Often Clytie wanted to watch something different--but of course, we wouldn't change the channel.

Her solution?  Sneaky little sister would pick a fight between Bro and I...  We would get into trouble, and be sent to our rooms.  Which left Sissy in control of the television!  Haha--I learned about that years later--and what a laugh we had!

It is my sweet sister Clytie's birthday today--she's 58 years old and one of my best friends.  I love her and am eternally blessed by her love and friendship.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SISSY!
YOU ARE AMAZING!

A Mother's Help -Postcard Friendship Friday #454

This is such a lovely piece.  Mothers haven't changed much over the years.  The gentleness and tenderness of this sweet Mother toward her little daughter is beautifully portrayed in this piece.

The older I become, the more appreciative I am of my own dear Mumsie.  I am the eldest of six.  She has been through so much--gave so much of her self--that I am forever grateful for her.  Her love, wisdom and strength means so much to me.

I am blessed to have a mother such as mine.  SO blessed.

Have a wonderful day, sweet Friends--here in the Willamette Valley the sun is out and spring is busting out everywhere.  I am grateful for the sunshine today! Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Blue Ribbons -Postcard Friendship Friday #453

When I was  younger, you know, in my teens, I didn't think too highly of my long-suffering Mother.  As the years have gone by and I have become a Mom myself--I realize how incredibly blessed I am.

Mumsie is my biggest fan and supporter.  She prays for me every day.  Mums loves me and thinks about me.  She loves all of "us kids"and has no favorites among my five younger siblings.  She loves each of us equally and more--each in our own way.  We talk often and I enjoy her stories--she turns 80 this month.

Good Mothers are out there--but these days it seems there aren't as many of them.

I am grateful for my precious Mumsie.  I thank God for her.  Ah, there are some days I truly wouldn't have made it through without her prayers and deep wisdom.

This month I get to celebrate my precious Mom and post some of my wonderful collection of Mother's Day postcards--I hope you enjoy them!  Happy Mother's Day and a joyous week to you!

A Peaceful Easter -Postcard Friendship Friday #452

Easter postcards are among the most lovely--this one is especially beautiful.  Here is the enchanting little angel, ringing in Easter upon a silver bell, with a pile of colorful Easter eggs at her side.

I wonder what animals are listening in that idyllic forest with its mysterious beauty.  The look on the angel's face is one of expectant joy.  Happy Easter all you wonderful people!

And happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy Birthday, My Beloved

I found this adorable painting online.  It perfectly expresses how much I miss my Beloved.  His birthday is today.  He would have been 75 years old.

How I miss him.  Life has gone on..and I have made steps toward healing, but I will always miss him.  He made a tremendous impact in my life.  There are so many things I never would have done, but for him.  Life with him was a great adventure.

It is hard to be alone now...  But God walks, talks, weeps and laughs with me.  He is my good friend and He knows exactly how I feel today.

Please hug your own beloved today--never take one another for granted.  One never knows how much time you'll have together.

Blessing, joy and peace be to you, dear ones.

Daffodils and an Easter Angel

I love Easter.  The artists of old created such beautiful art pieces celebrating Easter.  This one is a favorite of mine.

Have a lovely day--and God bless you this Easter Weekend

Allelluias Sing! Happy Easter!

As you can see, Easter is one of my favorite times of the year--so filled with hope and joy.

The Lily of the Valley flowers are beginning to bloom in my garden, though it has been quite cold and damp since our warm spell back in early March.

This is a fanciful picture I took of a filbert orchard during the 2012 flood.  I haven't been able to get out to take pictures this time.  There has been extensive flooding in our area over the weekend with roads closed and lots of damage to homes, especially in Corvalls.

Friday, there was a water rescue on the Willamette River, which is just a few blocks from where I live.  Why someone would go kayaking on a raging, flooding river is anyone's guess.  That fellow is lucky to be alive!

Have a wonderful week, sweet Friends.

The Earth Awakens!

Isn't this a beautiful postcard?  I surely do wish these were available in these more modern times.  I am a big fan of Ellen Clapsaddle.  What a wonderful artist she was!  She's an inspiration to me.

Happy Easter, dear Friends--Spring surely can't be much further away!

Happy April Fool's Day!

My sweet Grandpa Lester would be 122 years old today!  He was my best friend when I was a child.  I told him my little girl secrets, he taught me how to garden and the trick of seeing shapes in the trees and clouds.  I still miss him--even all these years later.

Oddly enough, my garbage can began to sing "Happy Birthday" Saturday night.  LOL Yes, and this morning--it was transported to the dump and I have a feeling it is STILL singing!

Hmmm...  Maybe my lil' Sis is playing an April Fools joke on me?!  LOL

Happy April Fools Day!

International Mermaid Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #450

International Mermaid Day is a newer holiday--I believe this is the fourth year it has been formally celebrated.  Though there are several dates listed as International Mermaid Day, our local news reporters were talking about this unusual holiday this morning!  I have tried to discover how this day was established and so far--I have come up empty handed.

I love mermaids.  I've collected books, cards, postcards and fairy tales about them for years.  In older lore, they aren't the beautiful, kind beings of today.  In fact, they were a little scary!

This beautiful vintage postcard is a part of my cyber collection.  I couldn't find a back for it--however, even so--I wanted to share it because its whimsical qualities.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday. I hope you find some fun ways to celebrate International Mermaid Day!  Have a wonderful weekend, dear Friends.

How about a Ride? -Postcard Friendship Friday #449

I love the way the young man is looking at this gentle maiden.  However her companion the Dog seems a bit suspicious.  What a beautiful postcard.  I wonder if she WILL go for ride in that boat upon the lake.

I finally went to the doctor--looks like I have pneumonia.  Thankfully I may be over the worst of this soon.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and have a lovely weekend all you wonderful people out there!

Birds in Springtime -Postcard Friendship Friday #448

I love this postcard--bluebirds are my favorite bird.  I took this from my "cyber" collection, so there isn't a back to share with this one.

When I was a child bluebirds lived in the canyon.  These days the they can't be found there anymore.

I remember my siblings and I once found a bluebird nest lying on the old canyon road.  When we picked it up, three little bluebirds flew up and away into the trees.  I think I was about 11 years old.

One tiny bluebird came to visit my current home a couple of years ago--he decided to take a bath in the little pond next to the waterfall.  I was SO surprised to see the little fellow and felt I'd been blessed.

I am still ill.  If this doesn't get better, I'm heading to the doc.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and have a wonderful weekend, dear Friends.

A Bunch of Shamrock for Luck! -Postcard Friendship Friday #447

Isn't this little one sweet with her "bunch of shamrocks."  I know "gay" means something else these days, but back when this card was made it simply meant joy or happiness.

I am still very ill.  This is a bad flu.  I didn't get this up in time, either.  I apologize for that, sweet Friends.

Let Erin Remember -Postcard Friendship Friday #446

Hello sweet Friends.  I have been very ill with the flu, so this didn't posted on time.  Thank you for your patience.

I adore the gown this delicate Irish maiden is wearing.  Being Irish myself, green is one of my favorite colors, and I have tons of  white clover in my lawn.  Shamrocks are indeed lovely.

Have a wonderful holiday, sweet Friends!

Beautiful Blarney Castle -Postcard Friendship Friday #445

On Daddy's side of the family, we are as Irish as they come.  When I was a little girl I knew Dad was part Leprechaun.  Indeed--that is what he used to tell us.  A bit of the "blarney." for sure.

One of my dreams has been to visit Ireland, specifically Blarney Castle.  It is the home of the famous Blarney Stone. Built by one of Ireland's greatest chieftain, this magical place has been attracting attention ever since. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney making it a world landmark and one of Ireland's greatest treasures.

To kiss the Blarney stone, one must hold tight to an iron railing and lean backwards from the parapet walk. It is said once a person has kissed the stone, it bestows the gift of elegant speech.

There are all kinds of interesting stories of the stone's origin.  Some say it was Jacob’s Pillow, brought to Ireland by the prophet Jeremiah. There it became known as the Lia Fail or ‘Fatal Stone,’ used as a "coronation stone" for Irish kings. Others say it may be a stone brought back to Ireland from the Crusades – the ‘Stone of Ezel’ behind which David hid on Jonathan’s advice when he fled from his enemy, Saul. It was often called the Stone of Destiny.

So, how did the Blarney Stone end up in Ireland?  When the King of Munster sent five thousand men to support Robert the Bruce in his defeat of the English at Bannockburn in 1314, a portion of the historic Stone was given by the Scots in gratitude – It was returned to Ireland and set into the wall of Blarney Castle.

The story of the Blarney stone's peculiar power begins during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who sent a deputy to Cormac MacDermot MacCarthy, Lord of Blarney.  The Queen demanded that Lord MacCarthy give up his lands to English rule.

In response to her ultimatum, Lord MacCarthy set out for England to talk to the Queen.  Now Lord MacCarthy was notoriously known for his lack of fluent speech.  Even so, though he doubted he could win the favor of the Queen, his love for Ireland took him to England to attempt to plead for the traditional right to his good land.

He began his journey to England with a heavy heart.  He had only traveled a short while when the weather took a turn for the worse.  He spied a campfire along the road tended by a little old woman.  Shivering with cold, he asked if he could sit next to her fire and offered to share some of his provisions with her. As they sat in silence, tears coursed down his face.  The old woman noted his sadness and asked why he looked so forlorn.

In halting speech, he told her of his sad predicament and the elderly woman, having compassion upon the man, said "Lord Cormac, when Blarney Castle was built, one stone was put into place by a man who predicted no one would ever be able to touch it again. If you can kiss that stone," she explained, "the gift of eloquence will be conferred upon you."

Filled with hope, Lord MacCarthy immediately journeyed to Blarney Castle where he succeeded in kissing the Blarney Stone.  As a result, the legend tells us he was able to address the Queen with speech so soft and words so fair, that as long as he lived he never had to renounce his right to his lands.

Today, kissing the stone is said to endow the kisser with the gift of the gab. My sweet friend Peggy visited Blarney Castle, kissed the stone and of course, is gifted with the "Blarney."  Whether it is a natural gift, or one conferred upon her the day she kissed the Blarney Stone is anyone's guess!

Have a lovely day, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

May You Always be Found

I love Ireland--it is the land of my ancestors on Dad's side.  I also love St. Patrick's Day with all it's fun and tomfoolery.  This postcard is especially cunning--the artwork is beautiful and exemplifies the spirit of the Irish.

The Irish are full of life.  Their history is filled with heroes and hardships.  I am proud to be of the Irish and to wear the green.
