Hug an Australian Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #117

Today is Hug an Australian Day!  I have been a fan of Australia since I was nine years old, when we studied the country at length.  Someday I shall visit Australia.  I may not return home.  (grin)  Just kidding.

I'm not sure how long Hug an Australian Day has been around, but it is an actual copyrighted holiday!  It was created by the folks at Wellcat.

Have a lovely weekend mates, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Something to Crow About -Postcard Friendship Friday#115

Fröhliche Ostern means Happy Easter in German.  This delightful postcard made me laugh.  Here is a boy carrying an egg that just bout beats him in size.  Wow!  That must be such a heavy load.  But what what hits my funny bone are those roosters--They are so happy over that egg--indeed, the size of that egg is certainly something to "crow about."

Fröhliche Ostern and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

PS  I just realized today is National Siblings Day!  I put up a vintage postcard just a few days ago, honoring sisters.  Here's the link:  My Heart's Gift.  Happy Siblings Day, too!

My Heart's Gift -Guest Heart Thursday

I love this postcard--it reminds me so much of me and my little sisters.  I am so blessed by their love and friendship.  I treasure them with all my heart.  God bless all sisters and may He strengthen the bond they share!  Sisters can be of the heart, too.  I have many sisters of heart and soul--the bonds between us are as strong as though we were blood sisters.  You know who you are.   I am SO grateful to you.  ((hugs))  God bless you, dear sisters o' mine.

There are hearts to be found in those lovely red flowers at the top of the postcard.

Have a lovely National Siblings Day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

A Joyous Eastertide

Over the years, I've seen many old postcards and vintage Easter greeting cards which use the term Eastertide.  I became curious about it and did a little research.

Eastertide was a greeting which was used well before the 12th century.  It was Middle English estertide, from Old English ēastortīd, from ēastor + tīd time, meaning the Easter Season.  The Easter season is the 50 days between Pentecost and Easter, which celebrates the day the Savior ascended up into heaven.

I like the idea of Eastertide.  It is a sort of Springtime word.

So, a joyous Eastertide to you .

Reluctant April Fools -Postcard Friendship Friday #114

I have many good memories associated with April Fool's Day.  We celebrated my sweet Grandpa's birthday with lots of goodies--and lots of fun.  I still miss Grandpa--he was my best friend growing up.  I would have a hard day at school.  As soon as I got home I would walk across the field to tell him all my woes.  I can just see him sitting there, listening to the tearful confidences of a tiny girl of six or seven.  He was so kind and gentle to me.

Later in life, as I became interested in vintage ephemera and the history behind it all, I was astonished to find so many pictures of people hugging fish!

This trend was born centuries ago, when some folks refused to change their celebration of the new year from April 1st to January 1st.  Those people were considered, er, stupid--like a young fish and pranks were played upon them.

I love this postcard.  The lady has such a funny look on her face.  She does NOT look happy to be hugging those fish.  She is enduring until the picture taking is over.  Heehee

Have a lovely day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Loving Easter Greetings -Guest Heart Thursady

This postcard is so graceful.  How an egg could be so balanced on a ribbon--well, that is a mystery to me.  Suffice it to say, this lovely drawing delights my eyes--and so I post it here on Guest Heart Thursday!  You can see there is a perfect heart in one of the petals of the flowers.
