Summer is Leaving -Postcard Friendship Friday #327
One of my greatest inspirations is the art of Alphonse Mucha, one of the artists who ushered in the age of Art Nouveau. I have based a few pieces of my own artwork on his wonderful pieces. I love the patterns he used in his borders, the graceful placement of subject, draperies, flowers and landscape. He is one of the greatest artists of all time. You can read more about this extraordinary man at The Artist, Alphonse Mucha.
I will be going in for surgery mid-week. I am so grateful to friends and family, as they have chosen to gather around me to keep the house safe while I'm in the hospital, providing transportation, cooking, and watching over me as I recover. I have been so touched by so many people.
I know there are those of you out there who have been praying for me. I am SO grateful to God for you. May our Mighty Creator bless you, dear ones. Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Sitting in Her Garden - Pink Saturday
Here is another wonderful piece of art by Alphonse Mucha, a French artist--one of those artists of old, who's work seems to have influenced an entire age of art--characterized as Art Deco, or Art Nouveau. You can read more about this extraordinary man at The Artist, Alphonse Mucha.

Gracious Profusion - Pink Saturday
I found this wonderful Victorian advertisement online a few weeks ago. What a beauty! These roses look like the ones which grew in gracious profusion on the old tool shed near my Grandmother's home. If I think about it, I can still sense the wonderful aroma wafting through the air on a hot summer's day. Ah, memories.

Beauty in Muted Pink - Pink Saturday
There is nothing so lovely as a bouquet of roses gathered from the garden. The fragrance of roses permeates the entire house. Ah...so beautiful--and that is what I wish for each of you--the fragrance of roses throughout your day today.

Grammies Flowers - Pink Saturday
Here is another lovely card from Grammie's collection. I love this card--there's something about it which fills my eyes. Grammie loved flowers--her yard was beautiful with every kind of flower, archways, paths and glistening ponds sporting a wealth of goldfish. Those days are gone. I like to think all those lovely blooms followed Grammie into heaven. I can only imagine the garden she has there! This card brings back so many happy memories.

Forget Me Not - Pink Saturday
I love this card from Grammie's collection. What a lovely scene. Grandma Jenny's sister Tilly often sent the most lovely cards, this one is no exception. I thought this the perfect card for Pink Saturday.

To Greet You at Easter - Pink Saturday
Yes, there IS pink in this cute postcard! I laughed with the teeny bunnies over these chicks' consternation at the hatching of furry black kittens from that egg. I believe the one little kitten might be thinkin' dinner.
It was such a cheery postcard, I just had to share it! Happy Pink Saturday to all. For more wonderful things in pink, visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound!

Flowers and an Irish Pipe - Pink Saturday
This is the only card in my collection, celebrating St. Patrick's Day, in which one can find PINK flowers! This charming card was given to me by my darling Gramma Gladys, who turned 84 last month. I'm so honored to have her old cards--I love each and every one of them.
The card was printed in the USA, probably in the late 1960's. I rather like the style.

Going Fishing?! - Pink Saturday
I love these old embossed postcards. This one, though a tad worn, is still lovely. At first glance I imagined the little cherub looked a bit like Agent Dana Scully on the old television show called the X-Files.
I laughed at the idea of this faery child fishing from atop a posy of roses. What do you suppose she thinks she'll catch? I wondered about the protective head gear--since this cherub, as with most cherubs--isn't wearing much of anything else. Then I thought of how uncomfortable it might be sitting there with er, no underpants.

Flowers and Butterflies - Pink Saturday
This card was given to me by Gramma Gladys. She collected the largest collection of cards I've ever seen--all meticulously organized. I still use those cards--I have boxes of them in my office. I am so honored to have them, and use them.
The older cards I carefully set aside to be a part of my collection of vintage cards. This particular card caught my interest because of its gorgeous butterflies and flowers. I love its' design--haphazardly stacked up across the card, creating a delicate movement of subject, line and color which fills my eyes.

Grumpy Baby - Pink Saturday
This is one of my favorite cards of all time. Aren't those rosy pink cheeks just irresistible? I'm dedicating this blog entry to my darling niece, who can stick her adorable lip out with the best of 'em.
This is a charming First Birthday Card, probably printed in the 1930's. Some things never change over the years--and that includes kids. I believe every parent, including me, remember times our children's faces looked exactly like this Grumpy Baby.
Isn't it interesting that, somehow, even when a tiny child may be feeling a tad testy, he or she can be SO cute, it's hard not to smile?

A Joyous Noel - Pink Saturday
The First Noel began as a folk song, and is one of our oldest carols. It dates back at least 500 years, though it was not written down and published until the 1800s. This wonderful old song was sung at a time in history, when not many people could read and few Bibles were in circulation. Some sources trace “Noel” to a Latin word meaning “birthday," however, most music historians believe the song originated in England--though it has been attributed to both England and France. The word “Noel” fits easily into both languages as a shout of joy at the birth of Christ.
Tradition has it that The First Noel was sung each year by English peasants as they lit their family Yule log. The Yule log was a lovely custom adopted from the Norse peoples during the middle ages. A huge log was cut, hollowed out and filled with aromatic oils and spices. It was lit on Christmas Eve with the hope it would burn through the 12 days of Christmas ending on January Sixth!

Wishing You a Joyous Christmas - Pink Saturday
With the Christmas season well upon us, I find myself remembering moments from Christmas past. This darling little girl in her pink dress reminds me of my eldest when she was tiny. For me, the treasure of Christmas includes those dear memories of yesterday. How fortunate I am to hold those moments close to my heart. How grateful I am for fond memories of the past and the anticipation of wonderful days to come.
Today I have the pleasure of wishing you all a Joyous Christmas!

Rizpah - Pink Saturday
This is the dust jacket from the novel Rizpah, written by Charles Israel. The artwork is beautiful, but the book made me cry. Rizpah's story, which took place thousands of years ago, is one of the greatest acts of a mother's devotion found in the Bible. Her story is not very well known, but God considered it important enough to be included in the narrative about King David found in 2 Samuel 21:1-14 of the Old Testament.
In 2004, the story of this brave woman's tragic act inspired a group of Moms to meet together to intercede for their own children. I find it amazing, that after thousands of years, Rizpah's loving heart inspired mothers across the world to join hands together in prayer for their own children.
The Holidays can be a sad and lonely time. Especially for those whose children have gone on too early, who have chosen a difficult life's path, or who are caught in the grip of alcohol and drug abuse. You can find more about this lovely group of intercessors at Rizpah Sisters.

Cute Baby Things - Pink Saturday
My Grandmother saved every one of our birth announcements and shower invitations. This shower invitation was for one of my cousins, who, of course is old enough to be a grandfather himself. These small cards are so cute. This one is only 2.5x3.5 inches! I'm so glad Grammie saved them all.
