Fishing Old School -Postcard Friendship Friday #463

Summer is in full swing.  I am not sure how this lovely lady is keeping a seat on that slippery rock while catching a fish.  Haha--I would not have wanted to be a nearby swimmer for sure!

One of my first summers in this town, I was sitting by the river's edge, when only a few feet away, a big old salmon leaped out of the water--twice!  Talk about a surprise--and the instant wish for a fishing pole.

It is just starting to get hot here in the Mid-Willamette Valley.  I am glad for summertime and its sunny days.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Modern Siren

Even in the age when swimsuits were not as small as they are today--this young woman is lovely.  I like the sleeves on that vintage suit--and there's no denying the young man finds her attractive.

Summer days are here!  I'm blessed in that from where I live, I'm an hour from the desert, the mountains, the forests and the ocean--it just depends upon which direction I decide to take!

Have a lovely week everyone!

Mermaid Dancers

I adore this drawing.  Mermaids are such whimsical beautiful creatures.  I love the way the waters of the ocean are portrayed, too.

Have a lovely day, sweet Friends!  I think it is time for a trip to the seashore!

International Mermaid Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #450

International Mermaid Day is a newer holiday--I believe this is the fourth year it has been formally celebrated.  Though there are several dates listed as International Mermaid Day, our local news reporters were talking about this unusual holiday this morning!  I have tried to discover how this day was established and so far--I have come up empty handed.

I love mermaids.  I've collected books, cards, postcards and fairy tales about them for years.  In older lore, they aren't the beautiful, kind beings of today.  In fact, they were a little scary!

This beautiful vintage postcard is a part of my cyber collection.  I couldn't find a back for it--however, even so--I wanted to share it because its whimsical qualities.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday. I hope you find some fun ways to celebrate International Mermaid Day!  Have a wonderful weekend, dear Friends.

Two Worlds Collide

This is a drawing by one of the old masters.  I love the intensity of this incredible painting.  This inspires me.

I apologize for being a bit out of touch this summer.  It has been a very heavy time for me and for my family.  I thank those who have taken time to inquire.  There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Best blessings to you all.

Vintage Bathing Beauty - Postcard Friendship Friday #125

We are well into summertime with all the activities associated with warm weather.  It has been so great to see the sun!  Unlike the rest of America the Pacific Northwest has had record breaking rains clear through June!  Our rivers are still running full and cold.  But happily, our weather has finally turned summer-like.

To celebrate summer's arrival, I found this lovely vintage bathing beauty.  I adore this old postcard.  In that day and age, This young women's swimsuit would have been quite scandalous!  I like her swimming cap and that big bow.  Such a saucy wench!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone! Enjoy summer while it lasts.

Prayers in the Storm

This lovely old postcard is the opposite of what people along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States are experiencing as I type this.  Our hearts and prayers go out to those caught in the swath of that immense storm.  My prayer for each of you is that you will experience God's peace in the midst of the storm--like the peace reflected in this picture.

It is calm here on the West Coast--we watch these events unfolding over the television.  What a frightening storm. Our hearts are with you, our prayers surround you...

Me and the Beach - Postcard Friendship Friday #54

Good morning everyone. In the next hour Scientists expect a Tsunami to hit the Pacific Northwest including California, Oregon and Washington coasts.  We know so many people who live along these Coastlines--please pray for their safety.   No one knows yet, if there will be just a small wave, or devastating event.  So far, no major damage in Hawaii.

Our hearts go out to the people of Japan.  The pictures coming in are terrifying.  Vast fires are spreading across the Island.  I can't imagine the utter devastation these people are facing.  Our hearts and prayers go out to Japan.

Ships Upon Sunrise Sea - Pink Saturday

This is the front of a small folder in which our darling little Grammie kept things she treasured...a rose drawn by my own Mum when she was six, a letter from Sissy to me, a note from her sister, our Aunt Tillie--each of these things were a window into what was precious in her eyes.

A true treasure trove of loving memories.

Does anyone out there know what, if any, significance there is to the emblem on the ship's flag?  Two crossed holly leaves with four dots!  Interesting at any rate.

For more fabulous pink Saturday surprises be sure to visit Bev!

Love Now

This is a card from the 1970's once sent to me by my best friend Eric. It is an enigmatic sort of saying, but today it makes sense and fits with my mood.

I will try to be consistent with you
So that you will understand
The core of my personality
And from that understanding
You can gain strength and security
That  I am acting as me.
I may falter with my moods . . .
But because people are never constant
And are as changeable as the seasons,
I will try to build up within you
A faith in my fundamental attitude
And show you that my inconsistency
Is only for the moment
And not a lasting part of me.
I will show you love now.

Come With Me into the Sea

This wonderful mermaid drawing comes from a book from my fairytale collection. She is indeed lovely, a true siren.

I love mermaids, but in many stories of the sea, they 're rather dastardly. These beautiful creatures have been known to lure ships onto the rocks, to pull a sailor beneath the waves to suffocate him. There are even tales of stolen lovers and missing children.

Still, I tentatively choose to believe there are those among the merfolk, who love mankind and choose to be good to them.
