Mermaid Dancers

I adore this drawing.  Mermaids are such whimsical beautiful creatures.  I love the way the waters of the ocean are portrayed, too.

Have a lovely day, sweet Friends!  I think it is time for a trip to the seashore!

International Mermaid Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #450

International Mermaid Day is a newer holiday--I believe this is the fourth year it has been formally celebrated.  Though there are several dates listed as International Mermaid Day, our local news reporters were talking about this unusual holiday this morning!  I have tried to discover how this day was established and so far--I have come up empty handed.

I love mermaids.  I've collected books, cards, postcards and fairy tales about them for years.  In older lore, they aren't the beautiful, kind beings of today.  In fact, they were a little scary!

This beautiful vintage postcard is a part of my cyber collection.  I couldn't find a back for it--however, even so--I wanted to share it because its whimsical qualities.

Two Worlds Collide

This is a drawing by one of the old masters.  I love the intensity of this incredible painting.  This inspires me.

I apologize for being a bit out of touch this summer.  It has been a very heavy time for me and for my family.  I thank those who have taken time to inquire.  There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Best blessings to you all.

The Mermaid and the Bubble

I have always loved mermaids.  When I saw this gorgeous illustration, I added it to my collection of "cyber" art.

I like the idea of wing-like fins on her shoulders--and the delicate ting of yellow and pink are beautiful.  The way this talented artist painted the mermaid's hair is phenomenal--I am fascinated by the way it is highlighted, almost as though it glows.

I also LOVE the bubble--I really like bubbles.  (grin)

Come With Me into the Sea

This wonderful mermaid drawing comes from a book from my fairytale collection. She is indeed lovely, a true siren.

I love mermaids, but in many stories of the sea, they 're rather dastardly. These beautiful creatures have been known to lure ships onto the rocks, to pull a sailor beneath the waves to suffocate him. There are even tales of stolen lovers and missing children.

Still, I tentatively choose to believe there are those among the merfolk, who love mankind and choose to be good to them.
