Mayday Friends -Postcard Friendship Friday #504

I love Mayday.  When I was a little girl we would gather long pieces of grass, braid them, then sew them into little baskets which we filled with flowers.  We would give them to our neighbors and to our sweet little Grandmother next door.

I remember dancing the maypole at my high school.  I wore a beautiful purple dress, one of the few brand new things I'd ever bought.  Funny thing, I still have it in my costume closet!

I hope you have a sweet weekend even with the shut down!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Great Secret -Postcard Friendship Friday #390

This is a Valentine's Day postcard picturing two sweet friends.  One wonders what secrets they are sharing.  Friends have always been a wonderful part of my life, and I am blessed to be in touch with some of my friends from the earliest days of grade school.

Valentine's Day has been a difficult time for me since my Beloved flew away to heaven.  Yet, one of the greatest gifts as a result that loss are the wonderful women, fellow widows, whom God has brought into my life.

They are sisters of the dearest sort.  I am SO blessed and grateful for each of my sisters.  Especially for Wendy.  This card is dedicated to our sweet sisterhood and the deep friendship we share.

Have a lovely week, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

A Girl and Her Pal -Postcard Friendship Friday #325

This wonderful card was printed in the United States in 1975. A high school student, at the time, I received this from a pal I'd met at camp that summer.

I love the whimsical nature of the little girl hugging her bouquet of flowers and the cat's happy pursuit of the yellow butterfly. From her adorable dust-covered feet, one can tell she's been barefoot for most of the day.

This card brings back so many good memories. Long hot summers spent playing in the woods, chasing up the trees with my cats, building forts with my siblings and cousins. We truly had a wonderful, magical childhood.

I apologize for missing PFF last week.  I was dealing with a lot of pain that week and ended up visiting the hospital emergency room.  After the tests were evaluated, the ER doctor sent me to a surgeon for consultation on an immediate hip replacement.  I have been momentously distracted. I will try to have PFF up and running each week, but I may not be able to respond to your comments, if it is too close to when I have the surgery.

Please know how much I appreciate your visits.  I especially enjoy the comments you leave for me.  May God keep you close to His heart, dear Friends--Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Happy Birthday, Little Buddy!

I am so grateful for friendship.  Today is my friend Theresa's birthday.  She's been my little buddy for over 25 years.  Our children grew up together and played together.  Over the years we've done projects together, spent holidays together, laughed together--cried together.  What a dear gift she has been.

Happy Birthday, Little Buddy!

Best Friends - Postcard Friendship Friday #123

It was a lovely holiday here in the United States.  The Fourth of July is a celebration I look forward to almost as much as Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Friends and family all gathered around, laughing, playing games, watching the parade, eating good food.  Then walking down to the river's edge to await the fireworks display. Walking back home in a crowd of thousands, then watching traffic at a standstill while we set off our own fireworks, sit around the firepit, making sommores--it is a wonderful time.

But this year, something interesting happened--I was amidst a crowd of family and friends as the parade was passing by, when suddenly I felt as though I was surrounded by a little bubble of quiet clarity.  It was almost as though that moment was in slow motion.  A blip in time, so to speak...

I looked around--saw the faces of family I adore, friends I love--and I knew at that moment how blessed I was to have each and every one of them in my life.  I took that moment to thank God for these precious ones.

And not just for those I watched from my little bubble of peace.  I thank God for friends I have not met face to face.  I thank Him for unexpected friendship.

Have a lovely weekend sweet Friends!

Happiness Is...

This is a card I received from my Best Friend in High School.  His name was Eric and I loved  him.  Our paths grew apart and I have not seen him for many years.  He was one of those special people who inspired me to greater things--thank you, Buddy.

This card somehow catches the essence of the 1970's for me.  This is the way it was back then.

Love Now

This is a card from the 1970's once sent to me by my best friend Eric. It is an enigmatic sort of saying, but today it makes sense and fits with my mood.

I will try to be consistent with you
So that you will understand
The core of my personality
And from that understanding
You can gain strength and security
That  I am acting as me.
I may falter with my moods . . .
But because people are never constant
And are as changeable as the seasons,
I will try to build up within you
A faith in my fundamental attitude
And show you that my inconsistency
Is only for the moment
And not a lasting part of me.
I will show you love now.
