The Great Pumpkin - Postcard Friendship Friday #34

This wonderful postcard reminds me of our brother Dow.  He was only 14 months younger than me.  This young boy's mischievous twinkle is so like the one I remember.

When we were kids, we would prepare for weeks for a Halloween party we'd put on for the rest of our siblings.  We would sweep the dirt beneath the big fir tree, and hang ghosts made of toilet paper from its branches.  Dow was a wonderful story teller, holding us spellbound, often telling tales which scared us so badly we could hardly go to sleep!

It has been seven years since Dow lost his battle against cancer--sometimes it seems just yesterday I was warmed by that special twinkle crinkling around his eyes.  The thought of that grin of his, makes me smile.  Ah I do miss him so.

Hello sweet Beth,
What a lovely remembrance of your brother ... he must have been a most remarkable soul. The imprint of such memories wrap around us like a warm blanket, do they not? Though at times recollections are a bit painful, the solace they create keeps us from drowning.

I was deeply touched/moved by the comment you left for me the other day. I embrace your hugs wholeheartedly and return them in full. With love, P.

Hi Beth-
What a great card- And a beautiful memory.
Thanks for the comments. I did drop by one of your sites and left a thank-you message for FAT Tuesday. Sorry that it perhaps got bypassed. But indeed I appreciate you spotlighting my blog.
Don't forget to give me your address- I still need to send some goodies your way for the contest.
Thanks- Stacey

I love the boy and his enormous pumpkin. Your treasured memories of Halloween and your brother make it more than the sum of its parts.

Adorable image in this card! Mischievous little eyes peeking out from over the huge pumpkin are very appealing!

Dow's bioenergy lives in those who remember him. :)

Ah sissie. I too miss our brother. I remember camping in the front yard in the lean-to tent ... Doug and Rhonda were there. We were halfway through a really scary ghost story when there was a scratching at the back of the tent, then a horrible shrieking and two horrible shapes jumped in at us. After we recovered (did we ever REALLY recover?) it turned out to be Dow and David. Arrgh! I don't think I've ever been so scared.

P.S. Do you remember the story about the "bloody finger"? Well, my word verification is 'finger'! Hahaha!
