To My Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #443

This sweet card is from the mid-1940's.  I found it in one of Dad's scrap books from those days.  He has been gone for six years--there are so many things I wish I had known about Dad--didn't until after he passed away.  What a delight to find this in his keepsakes--Daddy was a sentimental fellow.  This Valentine's Day Card folds down into this delightful Valentine.

I know this isn't a postcard, but I had to share it with you dear ones.  I know you will love it as much as I do!  May blessing, joy and hope be yours, sweet Friends. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Don't Step on a Bee Day -Guest Heart Thursday

Over the past year or so, the Willamette Valley, here in Oregon has some experienced tragic losses of bumble bees and honey bees due to pesticides.  It breaks my heart to see this.  I've always loved bees--especially the bumble bees.

Bees are important to everyone in the world.  Without bees, pollen would not be spread.  In the United States alone, honeybees pollinate more than 100 food crops, including apples, zucchini, avocados and plums. The bee population is in such crisis, experts are convinced we are one one step away from disaster.

In light of these facts, to celebrate a special day in honor of bees seems just right to me, and perfect for Guest Heart Thursday.

Have a lovely day, and make sure bees are safe and welcome in your yard.

I'll Camp Near You -Guest Heart Thursday

This perky young lady has a moveable arm. Movement is allowed by a tiny metal fitting, which you can see if you look closely. That arm of hers is quite muscular!  lol  This Valentine Card is made of thick cardboard, and was probably published around World War One.

If anyone out there has any information about this card, I would love to hear from you!

To My Valentine -Guest Heart Thursday

Isn't this a beautiful postcard?  I love Valentines Day.  It is one of my favorite holidays, not to mention I have a huge Valentine's Day ephemera collection, both real and cyber.  There is such an imaginative, delightful air to most vintage Valentine's Day Cards.  I'm delighted Valentine's Day is only a month and a week away!

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Heart for Lunch

I don't know why--but this postcard is disturbing--I can't put my finger on exactly what bothers me about it.  I've never seen one like it before.  Maybe it is that the heart-shaped pots over the flames don't look like they especially like the idea of Cupid's having that heart for lunch.  (grin)

However, I do very much like how the bow and arrow and tree frame the postcard.

Have a great week everyone!  Valentine's Day is less than a month away.

Heart Arch - Guest Heart Thursday

This wonderful old card was sent to our Dad when he was in the fourth Grade.  As you can see, the card is a pop-out.  The background rested on the flap you see, so that the children stood on their own, as did the basket of violets.  So pretty.

I'm so glad Sissy scanned it so I can share it here.  I adore this card--not only because it was sent to Dad and was from Great Uncle George and Great Aunt Pearl, but because of the exquisite artwork.  What a lovely lovely old card!

With One Good Eye...

This is definitely a card which might be sent by a little boy to someone he greatly admires! The card was printed in Canada sometime in the late 1940's. I thinke he's cute...he kind of looks like Grumpy in Walt Disney's Snow White!

I love his sword, those shiny shoes--however, his girth, humongous nose and eye patch, could conceivably put a dampener on this funny pirate's invitation.

Stretching the Truth

This Valentine's Day Card, made in the USA in the late 1930's is another of my favorites. Isn't this kitty cute? Love those fluffy undies and high heels.
.
This winking beauty has a missing part--it is her paw, which, with a lever on the other side of the card, would have moved to stretch the chewing gum.

I Couldn't Bear It

This darling Valentine is one of my favorites. I love the way these old cards expand. This card was probably printed in the USA in the late 1930's. Below you can see what the card looks like expanded.

Daddy Update: What a wonderful thing! The top of Dad's head has NO bone showing! The two surgeons who looked at it a little over a month ago said there was a one percent chance that terrible wound would heal over. Thank you for your prayers! It is truly a miracle!

Please continue to pray that Dad's neck bones will knit together. There's quite a gap between the bones--and Mom says, looking at the cat scan, that it looks impossible. But we've already seen one miracle! Let's pray for another.

We hope to have Dad and Mom's home ready for them by the 20th. Still so much yet to be done.

Bunny Watchman

Here is another Valentine Card from my collection. This card was probably printed in the USA in the late 1930's. There is a small metal rivet in the top of his arm, which allows this darling little bunny watchman to swing his lamp.

The look on this hunky bunny is rather funny. I believe he LIKES what he sees!

Daddy Update: Last Sunday morning Dad walked my youngest sister down the aisle, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He walked around quite a bit that day--and seemed the better for it.

The neck doctor had some discouraging news. According to the cat scan, there is a cyst which is lodged where the break in Dad's neck is. The Doc thinks Dad was probably born with it--but it seems to be impeding the bones from healing. But there was some good news, too--We saw the wound specialist on Wednesday. She was amazed at how quickly the top of Dad's head is knitting. Indeed--when I change his wound each day, I am amazed to see visible progress--It is a miracle to watch how quickly the flesh is covering over the bone, when the doctors said it never would.

Please pray for safety for all the family members and volunteers who will be at my parents' home this weekend. We have a LOT to do, including some serious work on the roof. It is my hope and prayer that we will accomplish more than we ever thought possible. Dad and Mom need to be in their own home. I would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers this Labor Day Weekend.

An Impression on my Heart

This darling Valentine card was made to fold the bottom edges so it would stand up. I love the astonished but happy look on the little girl's face and the confident devoted look on his, as he writes.

This card was most likely published in the early 1930's.

Tanks!

I thought it was time to share another wonderful old Valentine from my collection. This card was printed in the USA probably during WW2. The card was made to stand, and the flag was folded to make it look like it was waving in the wind.

Seems strange to think WW2 was such a long time ago. I was born close to 15 years after the war ended. Strange, it wasn't that long ago in history--yet the world has changed so much since then, it seems that war was fought centuries ago.

My Business is Lovin'

This funny little Valentine's Day card was published on very thin, delicate paper. I suspicion it was published sometime in the 1930's. It is a cleverly designed card, which I find to be very charming.

Batty Aboutcha!

This delightful Valentine's Day Card was probably printed in the early 1930's. I love the mischievous look in the little baseball bear's eye, and the saying is quite clever. In fact, I'm sure it would have made a "hit" with the girls. The bat and this little fellow's arm were made seperately to move, swinging back and forth behind his head.
