Following In Father's Footsteps

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there, who's kindness, fairness and love for their children has changed the world.

One little boy, following in the footsteps of a good and loving Father, will bring happiness to his own family someday.  His own Daddy is the one who can teach that boy how to become a good man.

I am grateful for my own Father, who's kindness and love made a HUGE difference in my own life.  I often hear stories of dads who are not good--and who treated their children awful.  To hear those stories breaks my heart.  I wish everyone could have had a Dad like mine.  He would have taken you all to his heart, too.

Happy Father's Day, dear ones.

Father's Day Morning Coffee

There are several of these wonderful illustrations for Father's Day from the 1950's and 1960's.  They are ads in various old magazines.

I couldn't resist posting this one.

Happy Father's Day to all the good Daddies out there!

Daddie -Postcard Friendship Friday #459

Happy Father's Day!  I found this postcard online--I found it to be unusual.  Most postcards from that era are for "Father" or "Dad."  Daddie is endearing.

I'm a Daddy's girl from way back--and this postcard warmed my heart.

Have a great weekend and a joyful Father's  Day to you!  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends!

To Dear Dad -Postcard Friendship Friday #458

The impact of a Father on the life of his children is long-lasting.  What a Father does makes a difference for all time, as his influence ripples down through generations.

I was blessed with a Dad who loved each of us with all his heart.  I miss him.  I remember how proud he was of me and my family.  He was proud of all of us.

Happy Father's Day and  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Love to Father -Postcard Friendship Friday #457

Father's Day is in June.  I was blessed to have a wonderful Daddy who loved me and my siblings with all his heart.  He flew away to heaven almost seven years ago.  I still miss Dad.

Dad taught us about unconditional love--it didn't matter what awful thing we might have done--his love was always there.  Because of Daddy, I understand the heart of God the Father.  He is tender and loving--but firm and strong, just like my own precious Father.

"As a father is kind to his children, so the LORD is kind to those who honor him."  ~Psalm 103:13  I am grateful to the Lord for dear Dad--who by his example taught us who God is.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends--and Happy Father's Day!

Who would Not be a Father? -Postcard Friendship Friday #412

A loving Father is not only a blessing to his own family, but he is a blessing to the entire world.  His caring actions ripple out through his children, his children's children, his children's children's children...down through the ages.

I am grateful to have had a wonderful Father.  He was brave, gentle and strong and loved to laugh.  He provided for our needs and He was a good man who helped strangers and always knew exactly what to say.  He told imaginative stories that still live in my heart to this day.

He was an artist--you can find tiny sketches in his Bible, just like me.  I am the eldest of six.  Daddy loved all of us so.  Each of us had a special bond with him.   I was in trouble he knew it instinctively--and the same was true of me.  Dad was our hero, and he taught us unconditional love.

Happy Father's Day, dear Friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!  Thank you for dropping by.  Your visits encourage my heart.

PS:  I just went through the comments side--where you look up comments to be moderated--and I found a slew of wonderful things from all of you.  I didn't realize there would be comments I needed to look at!  Please forgive me for putting them up so late!  I appreciate each and every one of your comments.

Who Would Not Be a Father -Postcard Friendship Friday #362

Happy Father's Day to all those wonderful Dads out there. Today I miss my own dear Daddy who flew away to heaven almost four years ago.  I know my precious children are missing their Dad today, too. My Beloved was a good Daddy.

Have a blessed Father's Day--enjoy time with your Dad.  You never know how much time you have left--and you'll never regret time spent together.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear Friends.

To Our Dear Fathers -Postcard Friendship Friday #123

This year, Father's Day will be on June 15th.  I am deeply grateful to God for giving me my Father.  Dad taught us about God the Father--Daddy's gentleness, kindness, strength and unconditional love showed us God's loving face.  We were greatly blessed to have had such a good Father. I miss him, more than I can put into mere words.

I thank God for my husband, who has been, and continues to be a wonderful Father to our children.  The relationship between Dads and their children is so important.  There is much to be learned from a loving Father.

As I think about it--I am incredibly thankful to Our Creator for all Dads who love and provide for  their children.

Note:  Google seems to be having troubles the past few weeks.  I haven't been able to comment on your links off and on.  So, I'm taking a moment here to thank everyone who participated in Postcard Friendship Friday this week!  As soon as Google gets the problem fixed, I'll be commenting on your blogs!  Have a lovely weekend.

Daddy's Story Time - Sunday Scans

This picture is actually from an old fairytale book in my collection.  I can't recall what the story was, but this lovely drawing reminds me of my own Daddy's stories.  Because of Dad's stories, I married a storyteller.  I still remember the wonderful stories my husband would tell the children when they were small.

Storytelling is a wonderful, magical gifting.  How grateful I am for the storytellers in my life.

Al over at "Al's Photography Blog" is hosting  "Sunday Scans".  It is a place for all things scanned.  So pick up your old photo albums, ephemera, postcards, artwork, ANYTHING which can be scanned and join in the fun!

Our Fathers - Postcard Friendship Friday #68

NOTE:  You don't have to stick to the theme I chose each Friday.  Just put up the postcards you love and tell us why you like them!  Have fun everyone!

There were six of us in all--I'm sure there were moments when Daddy wondered about having so many! This postcard brought to mind all the hours Dad must have held crying babies over the years.  I still love being a part of a big family.

When I think of Dad, my heart is happy.  What a dear Father he is--He is my hero.

I remember his strong arms--As a little girl, I always felt so safe with my Daddy.  Now he is old.  His strength is fading.  Those dear eyes don't see as well.  How precious he is to me.  His unconditional love, kindness, fairness and strength have colored my life with beauty.  As an adult, looking around our world, I have realized how blessed my siblings and I are, to have this strong, gentle man as our Father.

Now in his twilight years, I find myself treasuring every moment I spend with Dad.  Dear beloved Daddy.  Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day!

Today is Father's Day.  I am so grateful for my Dad and for all the wonderful men who, over the years, took me under their Fatherly arm to teach and guide me.  I have been truly blessed.

The First Father's Day - Postcard Friendship Friday #16

Father's Day is celebrated on third Sunday in June in many parts of the world.  In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd thought up the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon.

When her Mother died, Sonora's Dad had raised her to adulthood.  She knew all the sacrifices he made for her and saw him as a courageous selfless and loving man.  Sonora wanted her Dad to know how special he was to her, so she went to work on a national day to honor all Fathers. The very first Father's Day celebration was held on her Father's birthday, the 19th of June, 1910.

In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June. Roses are the Father's Day flowers: red to be worn for a living father and white if the father has died.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!!

For My Daddy on Father's Day

This is another card from our sweet Grammie's collection.  I think this may have been a Father's Day card one of my uncles would have given to my dear old Grandfather.  It looks like it could be Uncle Lawrence's handwriting.

Dear dear Dad--you truly are the BEST Daddy there ever could be!
