A few years ago I was wandering through one of our town's marvelous antique shops. I have a small collection of old fairytale books, so when I saw this one, I picked it up to leaf through its pages.
To my great astonishment I knew every story. I could trace every single illustration by heart. As I held the book, I began to remember the beloved fairytale book I'd had as a child. I had literally worn it's pages into nothingness.
The wonderful thing about this book is I can see from the illustrations how my own style as an artist was forged. I loved each and every one of those pictures and their beauty imprinted itself upon my mind, even before I could read the stories themselves. It was as though I journeyed back in time for a moment and saw my world through a child's eyes once more.
Happy Pink Saturday!

I don't know why, but I've never been able to go into a used book store, it's weird, i just find books so personal that holding someone else's book seems like an invasion of privacy. Stupid eh! (I'm Canadian). It's only recently that I've been rationalizing these things, after all I borrow books from the library all the time. I'm so glad you and bloggers like you have encourage me to take the plunge. Happy Pink
I love this post! I was just out antiquing yesterday ... found a few wonderful treasures! I am always drawn to old books, the tattered the better. Now and then, I too will run across books that were part of my childhood. They never fail to bring a smile to my face! :))
By the way, I had to chuckle at the comment you left on my last post ... I must confess, it relieves me to no end that others feel the same! A little retail therapy and a blessedly warm and sunny day was the cure! :))
Have a fabulous weekend, my friend!
I LOVE old books. Love saving them from the trash. Need more bookshelves!
I love old books. This is a great one. Happy Pink Saturday!
Hello Beth Niquette
I love those 2 pictures, they take me right back to when my English Grandmother used to read me fairy tales. The illustrations are wonderful, you don't see them like that anymore.
Glad it brought back good memories for you too.
Have a lovely weekend
Warm wishes

great post . Cool image of you BETHIE,
your smile is fabulous!
What an amazing, magical find! Of course you had to have it!
We had a (mostly) magical childhood, where we were encouraged to fights of fancy ... where we believed in fairies and trolls and castles.
Sigh. It's good to be brought back!
«Louis» thanks you for visiting San Francisco Bay Daily Photo!
His actual (as opposed to the one you saw) Weekends Reflection post is this one.

beautiful illustrations. The first thing I did when I looked at the first one was to sit up straighter in my chair...because the girl in the picture has such good posture.
Enjoyed your post. I am a book lover.

Happy Pink Saturday! Isn't it wonderful to be refreshed with visuals, scents and memories to go with it that are good? What a blessing that ability, desire and availablity that is! Enjoyed my visit. Thanks, Jenn
Which just goes to show what happens when Fate takes a hand... this was a Fairy story in itself! Thanks for sharing.
Happy Pink Saturday!
Beth!!! I have had a similar experience with a children's book. I happened upon a book in an antique mall and realized it was a copy of my favorite while growing up. The art was just glorious and I knew, like you, that there was the beginning of my love of color and illustration! What fun to share such great memories!
Thanks for reminding me!
Hugs,
Coralie
Hi Beth and it's so nice to meet you! Oh, what a sweet post! I loved fairytale books too. Isn't it wonderful to pick up an olden object and all those sweet memories start flooding in?
I'm so glad you popped in to see me and hope you'll come back sometimes.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Happy Pinks...
Books can transport us to another time and place, and this book cover is very charming.
how wonderful to be reunited with a book from your childhood!
I had this book!!! I used to read it at my grandmother's all the time! Of course, try searching for it now with the title "Fairy Tales." Brings back memories!
I had this book as a child. I used to stare at the picture on the front and pretend I was there. I wish I knew who the publisher was..maybe one day I could find a copy for myself

Do you happen to have a publication date for this? We have a student who has the same book and it is wrapped up right now because the cover came off and I didn't want to unwrap it.
Thank you
I found your Blog because I was looking for this book. I would love to know the publisher, year and to see the contents page. I can't remember the stories it had but I spent many hours reading it as a very young girl. I am 65 now. Thanks for posting your great find.
I am interested in knowing
how to get this book. Any help you can give me?
