When Can Their Glory Fade -Postcard Friendship Friday #359

I apologize for posting Postcard Friendship Friday later than usual.  I wanted to add some of the pictures we took on Memorial Day as we visited my Dad and Uncle Kelly's graves yesterday.  Our family has been bringing flowers to Daddy's grave on  Memorial  Day since he left us nearly five years ago.  He fought in WW2 and was a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany.  He was my hero.

This year we also visited Uncle Kelly.  We had been unaware Dad's younger brother had been buried in the same cemetery as Dad.  We left flowers on his grave, too.  It was a poignant moment for all of us.

May God bless the families and friends of all the brave men and women who have fought for their country and who sacrificed so much.

In Memory of our Heroes -Postcard Friendship Friday #358

Next weekend is Memorial Day, when everyone across America will honor those who have fallen in war.  I am posting this in honor of my Father, who fought in WW2, Uncle Keller who fought in the Korean War, Uncle Jody, who fought in the Vietnam War, and dear Grandpa who was a soldier in WW1.  There are others of our family who fought in the Civil war when America was still very young.

Though these brave men lived through those wars, their families often felt the brunt of their time away, defending their country.  War is ugly and it leaves scars.

God bless the family and friends of all those who have taken a stand for home and family--and the country they loved so dearly.

Memories of You -Postcard Friendship Friday #267

Here in the United States we are celebrating the memory of those who lost their lives protecting their country, our freedom, home and family.  I have great respect for the brave men and women who have given their lives on our behalf.  Freedom is never free.

My own dear Daddy was a prisoner of war in WW2.  He suffered horrific things, he faced death, torture and the awful loss of his buddies.  For years he would not talk about what he'd seen.

Ten years before he flew away to heaven, Dad began to speak of the unspeakable.  He was only 18 when he was drafted into the army.  What he saw and experienced changed his life--his very personality.

I am grateful for his sacrifice, and for the sacrifice of so many others who fought and who continue to fight for freedom.

I will always miss my Dad.  He flew away to heaven two years ago just before Thanksgiving.  Dad and my darling husband are there together.  What a lovely thought.

Have a beautiful weekend, dear Friends. Thank you for dropping by, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, too!

Decoration Day

Today is Decoration Day, otherwise known as Memorial Day--a time when we remember American soldiers who fought for our country, those who died in battle and those who have slipped away to heaven since.

God bless America, may we always be grateful for our freedom and never forget that freedom was bought with a price.

Honor the Brave

Today is our family's first Veteran's Day without  Dad.  Dad once told me there was a fine line between cowardice and bravery.  He said he only did what he had to do and anyone in his place would have done the same.  The words of a courageous man.  Daddy was a brave man and today I honor him for the sacrifices he made.

Then I think of soldiers, not only from America, but from all over the world who fought for country, home and family.  Sometimes my heart is sad to think are there those who do not understand the significance of the sacrifices made by those who've fought on our behalf.

God bless the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  God bless their families.

As I see all the flags placed along the streets and flying overhead--my heart breaks just a little.  I miss you, Daddy--My Hero.

In Memory of Our Heroes -Postcard Friendship Friday #169

This year Memorial Day, which is on Monday, has a special sad poignant feel about it.  This is our first Memorial Day without Dad, who was a hero of World War 2.  His stories of courage and perseverance will always be with us.

So many good men and women have died, fighting for Freedom.  How I wish I could personally thank each of these brave warriors for their sacrifice.    And not just American soldiers, but other brave soldiers who fought and died for their countries.  The cost of Freedom is greater than anyone can say in words.

And so I say, "Thank you."
