To Peek in the Mirror

This postcard is so perfect for this evening!  In the olden days there was a tradition that if one waited until midnight to look into a mirror by candlelight, one would see the person one would marry someday.

This postcard has all the elements of Halloween, including a best Friend playing a bit of a trick on the lady looking in the mirror!  This postcard made me smile.

This has to be one of my favorite Halloween postcards.  The child in the clown costume, sitting in a pine tree with owls over the full moon...and a stack of Jack o' lanterns to boot.

Quickly don your Mummer's suit,

Steal softly out and don't be late,

For Hallowe'en decides your fate.

I love owls and have often heard them singing softly in harmony in the forests of my childhood.  I know where that term "hootenanny" came from!  Owls really do sing in harmony.

I remember all the silly games we used to play at Halloween.  This one I never heard of until I was older.  Though I don't believe in that particular tradition, I do love this postcard picturing the candle with a face and the dear little child blowing it out.

Pumpkin Carving -Postcard Friendship Friday #425

I loved carving pumpkins when I was a child.  The best part, once they were hollowed and carved, was to add the candles.  I loved to see the shining grinning faces of the jack o' lanterns in the dark of the evening.

Mumsie would make pumpkin pies from the pumpkins once Halloween had passed.  There's nothing quite like a homemade pumpkin pie!  Delicious!
