In high school, one of the most important events, other than prom night, was May Day. Various girls would do funny skits to gain votes to become May Day Queen. It was great fun. The May Day Court wore beautiful dresses with hoop skirts. As I recall, they looked like beautiful flowers. It was a very big deal.
There was the Queen's Dance, where the Queen, her court and their escorts would dance the most lovely dance. The choir would sing, the band would play, and then the Freshman girls would dance the May Pole. I remember learning the steps of the dance with multi-colored ribbons, which eventually wove a beautiful pattern along the pole as we danced. I still have the pretty little dress I wore. It was the very first "store boughten" dress I ever owned.
There are so many fun memories from my childhood about May Day. I hope yours was as sweet as I remember. Have a lovely weekend everyone, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Your May Day events sound like fun. I don't remember there being any May Day events where I lived.
I have only the vaguest of memory of a maypole (and I'm not sure I didn't make it up from reading about it!) May Day was not a big thing where/when I grew up.
I remember always talk about May Day; but I don't remember ever seeing the May pole dance. Your memories are dear. Thanks for sharing with me.
