I have a little shadow
That goes in and out with me.
And what can be the use of him,
Is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me,
From the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me,
When I jump into my bed.
This is another illustration from my beloved book of children's poetry. I have always loved this poem--having a wonderful imagination, as a child--I often danced with my shadow, imagining she was my long lost twin.

Very sweet, great memories.
My grandmother used to recite this to us. Thanks for bringing up those good memories.
That is the cutest illustration! I adore those little old fashioned pictures. Carol
Ah, I love Robert Louis Stevenson's poetry! I had my son do an entire semester in Literature last year all Stevenson works. I really enjoy the garden of verses.
Sweet... thanks for stopping by. Port Townsend is a wonderful old seaport town to visit. If you decide to stop there someday you will not be sorry!!!! Have a great day!
I love this and remember the rime from my own misbegotten childhood. Thanks for the memory.
