A Day of Joy! -Postcard Friendship Friday #435

This child is using Holly to decorate the Christmas pudding, also known as Plum Pudding.  Regardless of it's name, it wasn't made of plums.  It was created with raisins, also called plums at that time.  The pudding also contained a variety of dried fruits held together with egg and suet.  They sometimes moistened the pudding with molasses and then flavored it with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and other spices.

The pudding was usually aged for a month or more, or even a year ahead of time!  One might think it would spoil by the time it was eaten, but  the high alcohol content of the pudding prevented that from happening.

Merry Christmas dear Friends and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
