Bon Voyage -Postcard Friendship Friday #349

This wonderful old postcard is HUGE! It is printed on heavy stock and is 10 by six inches. At first I thought it was printed in the 1930's. However, I have since discovered this postcard was published in Bavaria around 1914. The artist's name is Ethel DeWees. Her initials are in the lower right-hand side.
.
I love the simplicity of the little girl's dress and hat. The look on her face speaks volumes, as she hands the boy a handful of yellow daisies.
.
The boy, however isn't quite sure what to do with those flowers, and seems a tad terrified! I enjoyed the boy's elegant clothing, complete with frills and captain's hat, along with that fancy, schmancy carpetbag suitcase.

  2. I think the look on the little boy's face is priceless too. Almost like he's afraid those flowers are going to bite him!

  3. very nice. Perhaps he's concerned what accepting them means for his future! I wonder how much it would cost to mail an oversized card these days. Happy PFF Beth :)

  4. Very unusual. I haven't seen old ones that size, haven't seen greeting postcards from the 30s, and there aren't many Bon Voyage postcards either.

  8. Again a beautiful, beautiful card. It reminded me a bit of the cartoons of Windsor McCay (Little Nemo). And the name of your blog is the best.

  9. Aren't they gorgeous! So clever for the illustrator to give them so much expression so simply. I had no idea vintage cards could be so large. All my vintage cards are noticeably smaller than modern ones.

  11. Great card! I really like the little rhyme at the bottom of the card. "...May friendship, health and happiness go with you hand in hand." Isn't that just lovely? I may have to start using that in my correspondence :) Thank you!

  15. HI! Now I get to apologize! I'm sorry it took me so long to get over to your site... and I have no excuse! Your postcard is absolutely charming... what a great illustration with such simplicity. I especially enjoyed learning about the card's history. And thank you very much for your kind comments on my postcard a week ago or so... I appreciate it very much!
