Athena, or Venus? - Postcard Friendship Friday #275

This is a postcard I fell in love with awhile back. The drapery of her garment is exquisite, as is her face.

She is exactly as I would picture Athena, though after I posted this vintage postcard the first time, a person in the know pointed out Athena usually wears a helmet. Perhaps she decided on an afternoon off without it? Or maybe she's actually Venus?! Well, at least she LOOKS mythical.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

  1. I always want to know what's was going on around her when the picture was being taken. I love her gorgious hair wonder if it's all hers.
Have a wonderful Friday my friend.

  2. Athena is the goddess of war, wisdom, arts, etc. but she is usually pictured in a warlike helmet.

  3. Ah, wise Postcardy--maybe she had a headache, or perhaps she's actually Venus...

  7. Perhaps when someone told her she had to wear a helmet she gave them that look --- "Excuse me, you want me to wear WHAT???"

  8. Hello Beth,

Athena or Venus? She looks to me as the personification of springtime, Primavera.

Yes, I'm back. Thanks for stopping by at EFSP. I read a bit on your blogs and I am really sorry about your loss. Very sad. It must have been a very difficult and dark period for you. I hope the future will be brighter.

And strolling through your blog: I discovered you have a wonderful gift, your art work. Your friends must have been pleased when you made these Jugendstil-like pictures for them. They reminded me of the posters by Mucha for the plays with Sarah Bernhardt. Very well done!

    Greetings from Amsterdam,

    Paul
