National Pretzel Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #165

No one can say for certain how National Pretzel Day started, but on this day we celebrate the world's oldest snack, the Pretzel.   Pretzels date back to 610 AD.  There are several stories.  Some say an Italian monk baked thin strips of dough into the shape of a child's arms folded in prayer.  He is said to have given the pretzels as a reward to children who learned their prayers.  Others believe the Pretzel originated with  Monks in Southern France.

Regardless of who invented the Pretzel, it is a delicious treat which deserves celebration!  This child is obviously enjoying that pretzel--but I have NO idea what food is on that fork.  Any suggestions?

Happy National Pretzel Day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

  1. I love the stories on how the pretzels were invented.

I am a fan of pretzels and I super like that M&M's with pretzels inside. Sadly it's only available in the US and not here in the Philippines.

  2. I had no idea there was such a National Pretzel Day.
I shall have to find a soft pretzel somewhere and celebrate.

  6. Great story on the pretzel. We can purchase the pretzel M&M's in Canada, and they are wonderful. NO idea what's on the fork, perhaps white corn on the cob? or a long john donut smothereed in powdered sugar.
