This is another postcard from my "Cyber" collection. I love the poem and the little girl juggling hearts--though I'm not sure about that black cat. I'm afraid he might pounce on one of those hearts and carry it away!
Today is International Juggling Day. If you have ever wanted to learn the art of juggling--today might be the best day to do so. Juggling is thought to have originated as early as the 15th century in Egypt, where a wall painting was found in an ancient tomb featuring juggling performers.
The word, "juggling" most likely originated from the Medieval word, "jogelen," which meant "to entertain by performing tricks." Remember the Jester who, according to legend, was kept near the king to keep him entertained and to distract in times of stress?
Apparently International Juggling Day was created to teach people how to juggle. The person or organization who began celebrating the holiday on July 16, is a mystery.
To honor the holiday, there is an International Juggling Sticks Competition July 16, 17, in Las Vegas, Nevada! Happy Juggling, Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
Be sure to drop by Gemma's Weekend Mailbox for more fun mail-related stuff.
Nice picture - sugary and a with a bit of vinegar. Once I went with my eldest son to practice at a children's circus. We learned to juggle and to ride a real tiny bicycle. It was fun, but at the end he wanted us to be the presenters and so we nevber juggled for a public. Happy PFF>
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute card! The black cat does look suspicious, but he is precious!
ReplyDeleteCute card and Happy International Juggling Day! It's always fun to see what you are going to come up with! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteI've never been able to juggle! Love the postcard!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, Beth!!! I wanted to say thank you for replying to my inquiry regarding your "hidden talent" I would be so nervous doing what you do! Heavens, the earth would be shaking under my feet! Though deep in my heart ... it sounds like great fun. It must be a bit magical to have a few moments in time to step out of your shoes, so to speak, and become someone else!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a fabulous weekend!! Enjoy the sunshine, my friend! :)))
Never been able to keep them all in the air at once, and hearts would be especially difficult, but I wouldn't mind a go with the bow and arrows in the corner. Happy PFF.
ReplyDeleteI think the black cat likes the hearts! You can see it in his eyes.... ;-)

Love that this card is signed Outcault, the early 20th century cartoonist who did Buster Brown and the Yellow Kid. A romantic side of a satirical artist.
ReplyDeleteLove the juggling hearts postcard, Beth! :)
ReplyDeleteI am a newbie here. I haven't actually read the ruling about your weekly theme. Since this is my first, do you think my entry is okay?
ReplyDeleteI found your Postcard Friendship very long ago from Vicky of Malaysia, but have been reinforced when I visited Gemma's Greyscale Territory, who now in turn, is hosting a Weekend Mail. Since am not a regular blogger, I would say, I hope I can jump in from time to time if it is okay with you.
My name is Bonnie, though of course this is only a fictitious name.
Happy Pink Saturday!
