Rally Day Greeting

I love this postcard.  I remember when I would miss Sunday School when I was a little girl, we would receive postcards such as this.

This postcard was to invite parents to something called a "Rally Day service." I adore this drawing of Mother and baby.  Since Mother's Day is in a few weeks, I thought it would be fun to post.

Have a lovely day everyone!

National Pretzel Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #165

No one can say for certain how National Pretzel Day started, but on this day we celebrate the world's oldest snack, the Pretzel.   Pretzels date back to 610 AD.  There are several stories.  Some say an Italian monk baked thin strips of dough into the shape of a child's arms folded in prayer.  He is said to have given the pretzels as a reward to children who learned their prayers.  Others believe the Pretzel originated with  Monks in Southern France.

Regardless of who invented the Pretzel, it is a delicious treat which deserves celebration!  This child is obviously enjoying that pretzel--but I have NO idea what food is on that fork.  Any suggestions?

Happy National Pretzel Day and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Red Roses -Guest Heart Thursday

I love this postcard.  The red roses in her arms match the flawless blush in her cheeks.  Ah, youth!  And look at those dimples!  There's something utterly lovely about this painting.  And yes, there are plenty of hearts to be found in that gorgeous rose red bouquet.

Look Alike Day! -Postcard Friendship Friday #164

Today is National Look Alike Day.  When I was growing up, I always wanted a twin.  There are twins in my family--they appear every other generation.  My sister has twin girls--they are delightful young ladies.

No one seems to know how this holiday originated, but everyone seems to have great fun finding people who do have a resemblance to one another.  People dress up to look like famous folks and there are contests and parties to celebrate the holiday.

Elvis Presley is the most impersonated.  Me?  I love Siamese Cats--hence today's postcard!

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

The Knave of Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts,
All on a summer day:
The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts,
And took them quite away!
I laughed over this one a bit--you see, yesterday was my husband's 70th birthday.  That darling Knave of Hearts stole my heart 31 years ago and life has never been the same.  Of course, you notice Toez the Polydactyl Cat is overseeing the theft.  tch tch tch!

Happy Birthday, Honey!

Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! -Postcard Friendship Friday #163

This May, my darling husband and I will have been married for 30 years.  Wednesday he turns 70 years old. I anticipate a long life together, since his tests have come back cancer free!  I can say without hesitation that our life together has been a marvelous adventure.  If I could go back in time, I would do it all over again.

Tomorrow I'm putting on an open house to celebrate!  It should be GREAT fun.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

Happy Postcard Friendship  Friday all  you wonderful people!

Mothers, Daughters and Sisters -Guest Heart Thursday

I've always loved photographs of this little girl.  From what I can gather, her Father was a photographer who loved to take pictures of his family.  At first I thought this photo was of the girl and her Mother.  As I looked closer--it seems, rather, that the young lady is her sister!  I also discovered a photo of her real Mother.

In light of my discovery, I changed the title and labels for this blog entry.

Perhaps the first postcard is of the dress the young lady wore for her "coming out."  There seems to be a story being told here--maybe of the younger girl admiring her sibling and thinking about what it will be like when SHE gets to wear a beautiful dress such as her sister does.  It's also perfect for the upcoming National  Siblings Day!  I love the way this girl's dress twirls and of course, there's a heart to be found.  I enhanced the one in her hair so you can see it a little better!

Tulip Fae Birthday -Postcard Friendship Friday #162

April is a lovely month--full of sunshine, flowers, rain...and birthdays!   April is a popular month for birthdays in my family.  I loved this postcard with tulip faeries.  It seems I'm not the only one who has ever had the idea of tulip fairies!

Happy Birthday to our April Friends and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Daisy Bouquet in Heart Pot -Guest Heart Thursday

After a few days of sunshine the rain is back.  It feels cold, dank and wet.  I think we were spoiled--even last night it was a balmy 62 degrees!  A rather uncharacteristic Spring warming.  At least there are flowers everywhere.  Their bright colors brighten one's eyes as the rain steadily patters. This heart-shaped pot of Daisies seemed perfect for this week's Guest Heart Thursday!

We are to expect wind, more rain and maybe a thunderstorm or two today.  It should be quite exciting.  Or so I hope.  With that tiny taste of Spring--I'm ready for flowers and warmer weather.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

God's Great Mercy

Today is the second day of Passover.  From the time I was very young, we were taught about this event.  God's mercy and love toward His people was amazing.  I remember the story of how Israel was brought out of Egypt and the magnificent intervention of God on their behalf.  Israel--just the name of that country is beloved to my heart.

God bless Israel.
